Dec 4, 2008I have a 24" intel imac from 2 years ago and it has USB2 ports on the back right, well if I plug in a flash drive and take files from the drive to the computers they transfer at USB2 speeds. But when I go the other day and copy from the mac to the USB drive it's slow as hell. Like USB1 or worse speeds. It's not like that on my PC at work which has similar specs to the IMac.

OS X :: 7GB Dmg File Not Going On A 16GB Flash Drive?
Aug 11, 2009Ok it's like this, i recently bought my Mac and in preparation before i got it i stocked up certain apps i wanted on my Windows desktop, now I have a 7 GB dmg file that won't go on a 16GB flash drive and it's driving me crazy. I just don't know why it can't go, i re-formatted it and it still won't go.
Is there something I don't know about dmg files? are they actually larger than they appear, if not I need to find another means of transfering this file and all I have is this flash drive, no connector cables or anything like that.
OS X :: Mounting Img File To Bootable Flash Drive?
Apr 5, 2009I'm trying to restore the OS onto my netbook and there's a tool that is supposed to be able to automatically mount a restore image onto a flash drive. Thing is, every time I try it, it only allows me to select drive bays without discs in them, so it's sort of worthless as you cannot begin the download without selecting a valid drive.
I found the direct download that the program so I have the .img file now but I need to place it onto the flash drive in order to install the OS. In the past I've just dragged the content files after mounting them in Finder over to a formatted disk but this is now consistently producing a blank boot on the netbook. Is there a command in Terminal or an option in disk utility that I am not seeing to mount the image rather than copying the files? I'm thinking that it's missing something by simply copying the files.

It wouldnt be a problem if just the file was visible, but after deleting all files and docs I still don�t have the free space I need.

Jun 7, 2012I just finished a project in FCP. I exported it in QT format, and then created an iDVD project with it. Looks great. I've burend several DVD's, everything is fine. The movie file is 14.2 GB in size. Now, I need to drag the .mov file to a flash drive or SDHC card go I can give it to someone to play on their laptop. For some reason, I am getting a "File too large for volume's format" error no matter what I do. I have tried a 16GB USB flash drive, a 32GB SDHC card, and even a blank DVD. I ge the same error everytime. Is it a FAT32 limitation, or what am I missing here? How can I distribute this on flash media?

Nov 30, 2014How do I transfer video files from one external hard drive to another external hard drive? OS X 10.9.5. I opened up each device in a finder window and tried to drag and drop from one device to the other. No luck. Next, I R-clicked on the file and requested to copy it, then R-clicked on the Finder of the destination drive, hoping to paste but that option did not present. I am able to paste a file onto the desktop from the original location but I cannot move it from there onto the destination drive. Full disclosure: I began this operation using a Windows laptop with no difficulties. Both drives are dual formatted. The destination drive is 2 Tb and has 1.5 Tb remaining space.

Mar 1, 2010I am assuming firewire would be the quickest, what about the firewire 800 or w/e it is in the macbook pros though? Is USB 2.0 significantly slower than the firewire? I want to buy a external HDD that is around 500gb in size and can transfer over files just like my normal HDD is. 100% of the time that the MBP is home it will be attached to this. I want to put almost everything there is on my laptop over onto the external hard drive except for stuff I need (which then I'd just pull it onto the desktop) when I leave the house. I'm assuming the western digital 500gb passport essential is the best buy, but I don't know much about it at all. It's only USB 2.0, which sounds like the slowest option when you throw firewire in the search.
