I am having a problem with locating a folder in a window and then when I back out it starts me at the beginning of the window. I enclosed a video to help explain better. This is a major issue when I have 200+ folders in a window.
My hard drive failed on my iMac (Intel), Apple Store replaced the hard drive, brought it home, hooked up the Time Machine, selected a backup date, restore. It showed the content loading for 4 hours. Once complete, the iMac still looks nothing like the old. Open the Macintosh HD and Info shows that the 230 GB transferred, but I can't find the folders anywhere. When actually opening the Macintosh HD, its only new folders and the new setup. Where do I find the restored content?

In Finder how do one avoid getting a new window each time one clicks on a folder. I tried to go to the Finder-options menu and uncheck the box "Open new window......". It didn't work. Anyone with an idea as to how I can get rid of all the new windows and stick with one?
How do I open a folder in a new finder window? I know on a PC you can right click the folder and choose open in new window. How is this accomplished on the mac?
After my macbook hard drive kindly failed on me, I ordered a new Seagate Momentus 5400.5, 320gb hard drive. I popped that sucker in this afternoon and began to start up my macbook with the OS X disc 1. Everything was going smoothly, except that it can't find the hard drive. It is recognized under my disk utility, but when I click to partition it, select options, select GUID, click 'OK', I can neither Name it 'Macintosh HD' or do anything else.
I can't proceed with anything because when it asks me to select a HD, the HD does not show up. Again, everything works except that the hard drive is not found. I pulled the hard drive out. Made sure the screws were alright. Made sure everything was all snuggly, and yet it still won't work.
As far as I can see, someone on my work mac right clicked on the 'Downloads' folder and set the 'Open With' option to 'Preview'.
As such, when the icon is clicked every item in the Downloads folder opens in preview (massive pain) and there are issues with the folder working on the dock. I tried changing the 'open with' option on the Downloads folder myself but there isn't anything appropriate to change it back to. I assumed finder but that isnt an option.
Every time that I start up my iMac running OS 10.7, a window from a folder within the package of a program (Steam, if you must know), opens on the desktop. This happens whether or not "Reopen Windows" is selected at shut down from the previous session. No matter what I do, the folder keeps appearing when the computer starts up and logs me in. Now a huge deal, except that it drives me crazy having to close it every single time that I turn on the computer. why this is happening and how I can remedy it?
In the past I could hold down the command key while double clicking on a folder and it would open in it's own separate window. Now in OS 10, it produces a tab, but not a separate window.Â
I almost feel embarrassed asking such a simple question, considering all the major problems I read about to see if the answer to my question was already up there. Â
I have some other questions - such as why Photoshop works so slowly, etc, which I'll ask later.Â

Gosh I hope this makes sense...we just converted to leopard at work, and I am wondering why I cannot get a follder that I double click to open in the same window...in the list view.
I just noticed that on the left side of each folder, there is a section titled "Shared" and it is showing what looks like the computer names of two PC laptops from someone I know. I have never actually done file sharing with these computers, so I'm not sure why they are displaying here? Why do these display here? I come in contact with lots of people all day long and I do not see their computers in this list.
Every time I open a new folder, instead of showing the content of that new folder within the same window, another one is opened.I even went to the preferences and the option "Always open folders in new windows" was not selected.Relaunching finder didn't help either, and so did restarting my laptop. Also, the bar that reguarly appears at the bottom of the finder window containing information about disk space and number of files is at the top of the finder window.
On upgrading to Lion I have lost the info at the bottom of the window to see how much space i have left at teh bottom of the finder window. Can anyone help me in finding the settings to get the info back
how can I print a list of folder and subfolders from the finder window? I want to reorganize the contents and it would be easier to look at a printed list. I have too many folder and subfolders to do it well from the computer alone.
My computer won't open a specific folder in my documents folder. It will let me open other folders but not his one. When I click to open it get a notice that Finder has unexpectedly quit.
the reason i am here in this one to one conversation its because my ipod got stolen on a Wedsnday; to be exact February 15th. I was in my third period class, which was gym and when i went to go look for my ipod since we had free choice of exercise, i didnt find my ipod but my headphones were in my bag, and my phone was there to. By a suprise where i left my ipod, they took out everything that was covering the ipod and just left my pink headphones. I'm here because i would like to replace my ipod.I know my apple id account, and password. I have the app locate my ipod.Sadly i couldnt locate it because it wasnt turned on.

Everytime I try to click on my external hard drive it closes the window. I have two identical WD MyBook 250GB drives. Both are FAT 32 formatted. I can access one of them fine from my Macbook. The other displays its icon, but as soon as I click on it, it opens a window, then closes it again. I can access the drive via a PC. I purchased a replacement hard drive (LaCie mobile disk 500GB) which worked fine until I transferred the data at which point the same thing started happening with the new drive.
I ran a Bit Defender scan on the hard drive and the only thing that turned up was an "Exploit.PDF-JS.Gen" file buried inside Adobe Acrobat. Bit Defender couldn't quarantine or disinfect the file so I deleted the copy of Acrobat but the drive still won't mount. I have a Macbook running OS X 10.4.11 and a 2 Ghz Intel processor.
About 2 weeks ago I overwrited some files on my ibook. Since I had no data recovery software for macs, i used easy recovery pro and connected the laptop hard drive to my windows box.Once I had it connected, windows asked me to initialise the hard drive and without even thinking about it I said yes. I did raw(sector by sector) recovery and managed to find a few files. The problem is that now the ibook wont boot no matter what i try. I have tried using disk warrior and repaired the file system.
Normally, the Finder window will display a folder's size in the Size column. However, I have one folder which shows as "Zero KB" in the Size column. When I open the General Info window, the Size reads as "Zero KB on disk (Zero bytes) for 0 items."
In order to get the folder size I have to go into the folder, select all folders, then with either the Summary Info or Inspector window, it'll show the folder size ("185.32 GB on disk").
Why is this occurring in only this folder? Is it because it's a large folder?
I'm running Snow Lep 10.6.2. The folder is on an external drive in FAT32 format.
I started cleaning out my MC. So today I found the "All Images" smart folder. I opened it and selected all 9000 contents and deleted, I got worried and stopped the process. I think 3000 images deleted. Then I turned off computer. Are these files necessary? Can I restore them?
Try to open iChat window, version 4.0.8. in Time Machine. The TM window changes to a finder window. Is this normal for an application like TM? Trying to get back an open chat. not recorded.
I have previously used the GRAB utility to take a snapshot of an open Safari windiw, and the snapshot included the entire windiw contents. When I opened the snapshot in Preview, I could scroll up and down and view the entire contents of the original Safari windiw. Then, I tried it again a few hours later on a different Safari window, but I then got only the part of the windiw that was visible in the browser at the time that I GRABbed the window (i.e., when I took the snapshot). What do I need to do to get the entire windiw?
I used migration assistant to move users and programs to my new mac pro from my old one. Everything seemed fine until I tried to use handbrake to copy my dvd for use with my apple tv. I have a dedicated drive for my movies called itunes to where The dvd being converted copies there. It wouldn't let me. I looked at the permissions and low and behold its locked. Whats weird is there is a user listed as unknown that has read access. I cannot delete this user. Any ideas as to how or why this is there? How can I remove this user?
Never before saw this in my mac HD drive - got this tmp folder, and it's got various folders in it including files called listeners and sock...what is all this? Never saw this before on my hard drive and I've had my mac pro for 4 years now? Is this mal or spyware? How to get rid of if so?

Why is hiding a window / app not a 1-click window control? Perhaps with Option+Click as Hide All Others.Window controls exist to streamline common tasks; hiding is a very common task in OS X.
