Just formatted my HD and now, for the first time ever, I have finder windows living their own life.
When opening the applications window by the short command cmd+shift+a the window appears like on the left but opening any other folder in the same way (via short commands) the window appears normal.
Is there anything that i can do to fix it back to the standard layout?
I recently added a NAS with four main partitions (recognizes them as drives). Now, when ever I start up my mac, finder opens four panes, one for each drive. Is there any way I can prevent finder from automatically opening?

I had some friends over for dinner tonight and I was showing them my macbook. So one of them played a prank on me and opened about 400+ windows by creating about 400 folders and then selecting them all and opening them. So to make a long story short, I closed them all and now I am wondering if this could have hurt my hd by doing this.
P.S The fan really got going when he did it
I have a Macbook pro and was running windows through bootcamp. When opening windows the display is upside down and is staying that way. Have tried to reboot with no luck.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAs you can see from the video there is a strange black area surrounding my windows, but only when there are "active," not when I click on the desktop. The iTunes window is unaffected. Additionally the Quicksilver command interface and the Dashboard have a discoloration which is very annoying. Do you know what could be causing this? This behavior goes away when I restart my computer but eventually comes back. I have not been able to tie it to a specific app yet.
This is on a white macbook that I've had for almost two years, but this only about one month old. It didn't use to happen very often but nowadays it happens almost every day.

I'm currently using a 64-bit version of Windows 7 RC on an 21" iMac. But I've noticed that the display has a strange moire-like effect (picture looks "instable", like the surface of disturbed water), that is not present under MacOS 10.5. Any ideas what i causing the iMac display to look so different when running Windows? Is there a dedicated iMac display driver for this hardware that might change this?

If Finder has been running for a while, and I have a number of finder windows open, when I option-command-w, the Finder crashes and then restarts with all the windows that just closed.
When I close a finder window, the finder menu disappears and then reappears along with the finder window. It looks like finder is crashing and restarting. This started happening after I downloaded a pdf and put it in a folder. Maybe there is a bug in the way finder is rendering the image of the pdf file at the top of the finder window?
How can I restore normal behavior of finder?

I just installed Windows XP Pro through Parallels. What a great program by the way. Here is my problem. When in Windows the Superdrive won't open. I have to log out of Windows to open it. Then I can insert a Windows CD and reopen windows and have access to it. Does anyone know how to open the drive through Windows

For example, I will click on a link in Apple Mail and the new Safari window opens behind other ones that were already open, so I have to move the already opened-windows to get to the new window that opened when I clicked on the e-mail link.

Microsoft say it's bootcamp, Apple say it's microsoft. Provider of disk say million chance in one disk at fault. Microsoft say if i can get in via safemode (which I can) then not microsoft problem. Stuck between them both and very upset. Apple laptop 17", bells and whistles, a month old - and had been saving for the best but haven't got it. View 3 Replies View Relatedone of the most convenient things for me as a photoshopper about Snow Leopard was to be able to have sort cuts in the finder side bar under "Places" so i could just drag the image i wanted to open to the left onto the App icon and it would open it from there. NOW I have drag it to the dock to open or open the dropdown menu... both slower. I am not happy about this.... Is there a way to get this function back... I have looked and looked and can't find it!

Every time I go to click a link, or open a new Safari window, nothing seems to happen. No window, links don't seem to work, though they change color as if activated. Did some searching, found that the windows are opening just fine, but opening on a duplicate screen somewhere where I can't see them. Figured a simple restart would fix this, and it did--for about 3 windows. Now it's right back to the same thing. What's the fix? All software/updates are installed/current.

How do I set up my mbp to open documents with Microsoft Word 2003 "always" under VMWare Fusion? I have had my MacBook Pro for 1 day and I see this glitchy icon in my dock:
(Running 10.4.6 on an eMac btw) As I type this in a Firefox window, I am unable to type ANYTHING in Finder. I created a new folder and tried to rename it - nothing's happening. Typing won't work in Finder Search, or Folder Info either. Nor folders i create on the Desktop. I tried closing Finder and re-opening. No luck. I can type in every other program.

I have a folder with maybe 20 or 30 songs by mobb deep. I want them to be part of an album called "mobb deep", but the majority of these songs are from different albums and mixtapes, and most doesn't even have the album title on them. So on Windows I would simply mark all the files in the folder and right click, hit properties and then I'd be able to type in an album name. First of all when I mark 20 files on Mac and right click it'll open 20 windows instead of one window for all of the files (one of the dumbest things on OSX, I love everything else but this is mad stupid) - second of all I don't even think it's possible to type in the album name when right clicking an mp3 file. So how can I change the album title on all of these files without doing it in iTunes? Reason I aint doing it in iTunes is that it'll be a pain to locate each song in there since they'll be labeled all wrong.
