I'm running 10.6.2 on a new MBP 5,3. Every time I run Software Update, the Ethernet freezes. I can't connect to anything, not even the router. A restart fixes it, and so does turning my Ethernet settings from DHCP to Off and back.

Just a quick silly question.iMac EFI Firmware Update popped up on the software update and I have now completed the update.It is okay to delete the iMac EFI Firmware Update from the Application Folder once you have updated the iMac?Also, if I have the Airport & Ethernet cable connected to my router, will my iMac use the Ethernet connection as default?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have updated my 2009 imac to Yosemite but with my ethernet cable plugged in I cannot access the web. The wireless works when the cable is unplugged but no internet when I plug it in. The ethernet is shown as connected with an IP address etc when I check network preferences.

I have just installed the update for 10.7.4 and now my ethenet port is not showing up in Network Preferences! Even when i go to add it back in it is not option. Also it does not show up under system profiler.

Since i updated my Mac Pro to 10.9.3 i keep getting complete freezes. It only happens when switch from my main screen to my second one.I first thought the old 'non' mac GPU in my 2009 Mac Pro was the issue. Recently replaced my 2009 with a 2013, and i seem to get minimum of 1 freeze a day.
Its usually within an hour after start up.My brother told me it could be the connection to my USB 3.0 raid bay due to the speed differences, but even with that one disconnected it freezes.I just did a competence repair in disk utilities lets see the results now.But i think its the latest update that has a bug.
I was installing the latest software update for my iMac (running 10.6.8) and during the update process, the computer display went completely blue. It has been this way for 10 minutes and I hear the drive working intermittently. What happens if I power down? Would I be able to restart the computer successfully?Â

Last night I updated my iMac to Mac OS X 10.9.4. Whenever I'm using my computer, it freezes up. How can I make it fast and smooth again? I have a most recent Time Machine backup before I updated. If there is a way to gain my computer's speed again? If not, can I possibly go back to 10.9.3?
View 5 Replies View RelatedIn the last two years when I have attempted to update my security on my Macbook Pro (Tiger OS) it has either not completed the download or frozen my computer. I've had to back up and erase my hard drive twice and reload everything. Is there some sort of bug in this update? I want to update to snow leopard but when I've tried with the upgrade disk it tells me that Snow Leopard will not install on my OS. Will the security update facilitate that?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo, I just had the original 300 GB hard drive fail in my aluminum 24" inch Mac running the latest update of Leopard. I wasn't able to save it using diskwarrior (diskwarrior said it was some sort of mechanical failure) but I was able to recover most of the data from it by booting from an external hard-drive.
So I went out and purchased a brand new Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB drive. The install went fine, it found the drive partitioned it and installed Leopard successful. Then is crashed and disappeared when I left it alone to run all the software updates. I came back and the computer was stuck on "Restart Required" after downloading all the updates.
I went to hit restart now, and the system just hanged, wouldn't do anything. So I hard powered down the system and restarted it. It came up with nothing, just stuck on the White Screen of Death. So I plugged the external drive back in and booted from it. Mac OSX couldn't find the drive and diskwarrior would crash if I tried to run it. I tried to boot up from the OSX start-up disk and it couldn't find the drive either.
So I took the case apart and made sure all the connections were solid and the drive was mounted correctly. Everything looked fine so I plugged it in and it started up fine. Finished the updates and the iMac ran great. So I thought maybe it was overheating, so I've installed smcfancontrol and started to monitor the temp of the drive. I also took the mac apart again and sucked out any dust in the fans or vents. The drive never goes over a 105 F, so it doesn't seem to be overheating.
However, this is where the problem is consistent: everytime the iMac goes into sleep mode, it crashes and the iMac is unable to find the hard-drive again. Unless I unplug it completely for 5 minutes or so. Once I unplug it, it finds the drive and operates like a champ.
My mac freezes while trying to download snow leopard. I have turned the mac off and back on and tried it again. I have tried it 3 times, same results.

It is incredible slow - freezes constantly unless on very low graphics in games like World of Warcraft so i'm assuming i need to upload graphics. So i went to the Nvidia website, and tried to update driver by following steps correctly, selecting the correct options, etc and it said it couldn't update for my system..How do i update my software so i can play without freezing?

I was just wondering if any other macrumorsmembers have been in the situation where there's no wifi, no decent 3G, but ethernet ports available to use, but you don't have a computer handy? Would it be possible that you could create an ethernet cable one end, dock the other, and literally connect e.g. an iPhone into the ethernet? At my place of work, there's no signal (dodgy GPRS/flakey Edge), some wifi, but in halls of residence, you get 1 ethernet port, and you can't put a wireless router onto it. It would seem that it would be an interesting solution, if it was possible.

Sure, I can download it manually, BUT it makes me really annoyed if something on my Mac works not as good as it should.
I have problems since applying the latest security Update 2009-001 and Java 10.5 Update 3, I have 10.5.6 on the new unibody 2.4ghz and have completely lost the ability to connect to my wireless access point which is an apple airport extreme base station.
I can sometimes se the base station but cannot connect to it and sometimes cannot see it at all. I have three other apple computers at home all less then a year old running the same build of 10.5.6 but have not updated them and they all are fine.
This one was perfect untill I applied the update.
The machine I am having problems with is partitioned with windows 7 beta on it which has no problems connecting to the base station, which indicates that its not a hardware problem but more then likely the update which is causing the problem.
Is there a way to uninstall the last update or delete it? Any one with a similar problem or know how I can fix it, I have googled but cannot seem to find anyone with similar problems.

I updated with the latest Lion patch yesterday and since then Entourage has either hung or taken a very long time to update from our 2003 Exchange server (I have MS Office 2011 but as you're probably aware, there are issues integrating with a 2003 Exchange server). how this might be fixed, short of updating both our 2003 Windows Server to Windows Server 2008 x64 and Exchange to 2010 so I (the only Mac user out of 85 staff) can use Outlook 2011?

The reason I ask is that started setting up Smart Playlists for all of the artists on my computer and they're all set to live update which is consequently slowing down my itunes. Started the 10.7.4 install, and it halted. Turned my Mac off, started it back up, and apparently the 10.7.4 update didn't install, but it has caused the Mail function to not work AT ALL - I get a long error report that is auto sent to Apple.Â

bootcamp is telling me i have to update my software inorder to use bootcamp assistant (im setting bootcamp up for the first time) anyways mac was installed a few days a go so i know it doesnt need to be reinstalled ive already repaired my disk permissions and of course i have tryed to update my software: its up to date apparently im ot the only one whos had this issue (i researched before i decided to ask)im running 10.6.4 on a 2007 imac so its intel based thats not an issue

I actually thought Apple had stopped offering Software Update to third parties, as the only other one I can think of is the Stuffit update that appeared several years ago on fresh installs of OS X (not sure if it still does).

Superdrive Firmware Update 3.0 fails each time, /Applications/Utilities/SuperDrive Update.app asks me to quit all apps and try again which I did but of no. I also retried with a reboot.

"Software Update can't connect to the Update Server" - so I can't even check to see if updates are available.This has been going on for sometime. For a while if I created a new admin account and used that it would work, but not today.Tried creating a new admin account but to no avail.
I clcik on the Apple Icon, (top left hand side of screen), click on SOFTWARE UPDATE, it runs for a split second, then: [URL]after which I check my internet connect to see that it's fine. (And I attempt to run SU with nothing else using the internet). [URL] I've checked the forum and found a few people with the same problem. I've tried deleting PLISTs and using 008.008.008.008 DNS address, [URL], but still cannot get it to work. I still have my old G4 Power running OS 10.5.8 connected to the same modem (Netcomm NB6PLus4w Modem which has 4 ports) as my Mac Mini, and it runs Software Update without any issues. So it's not my internet connection and it's not the Apple server, so it's something about the Mac Mini that's not right.
