OS X :: Ejecting Media - Unable To Enter Boot Options

Feb 9, 2009

I have an Intel based iMac 20". I had a different problem. I installed Windows XP using bootcamp. After installation. To give it a try I just put Vista DVD (I have vista DVD also, but it is damaged.) into drive. After loading boot files vista installation asked me to reboot the machine. Here I got the problem, as the dvd is damaged, it is unable to proceed further, I am able to see only a blinking cursor for ever. I wanted to eject the DVD and boot either from Mac OSX or WindowsXP (Which is previously installed and working fine). I have wireless keyboard and mouse and I am unable to enter boot options anyway.

OS X :: SuperDrive Started Ejecting Any Sort Of Media

Apr 20, 2009

Recently, my internal superdrive started ejecting any sort of media I'd insert, about 30 seconds of chewing on it and then spitting it back out. Does that mean the drive's dead, I can't even run hardware test since I can't mount the boot disc that originally came with the PB? The weird thing is that it is showing in System Profiler and there aren't any messages or errors! I tried inserting a cleaning disc but it received the same treatment as any other cd or dvd I had tried inserting.

Windows On Mac :: Vista DVD Keeps Ejecting While Using Boot Camp?

Apr 18, 2009

I'm trying to install Windows Vista Home Premium using Boot Camp on my MacBook Pro 15". I partition the Mac HD and I gave myself plenty of space on the Windows partition (52 GB) because I want to install large games on it.

When it comes to installing Vista I insert the DVD and click 'start installation'. It looks like it's going to work for a few seconds then it says that it can't recognize the DVD and the disc just ejects itself.

I tried to partition the HD then restart and hold down the 'C' key to boot from the DVD. The same thing happened, the disc just ejects itself...

get Vista installed? Will I have the same problems trying to install XP because if not then I will just install that. I would prefer Vista because of the DX10 compatibility for Crysis.

iTunes is playing and I hit the play/pause key (F8) the entire keyboard will go dark, but only if I'm pausing. it doesn't do it when I'm hitting the button to resume a song, only when I'm using it to pause one. the backlight sometimes takes minutes to come back on, at random, and sometimes it doesn't and I just have to turn it back on myself.

Hardware :: External Storage Media And Time Capsule Options

Nov 24, 2009

I currently have a 2007 24" iMac with a 500Gb HDD. With my addiction to downloading HD content filling up my hard drive iv'e decided its time to get an external hard drive. I'm gonna be using to back up key data (pictures and documents) and storing the majority of my video media. The reason for the thread is for two questions:1. Do i get a time capsule? Despite the cost i really want one, they look cool and im looking for 1TB of space. Ive read the reviews on the apple store website and there littered with stories of failure after 18 months, if this is the case im not spending ?230 for this to happen.

OS X :: Unable To Eject Cd Drive / Takes 20 Minutes Before Ejecting

Aug 4, 2009

I got West Wing stuck in my computer. I'm on an Intel Macbook (No Open Firmware >_<)I've tried:

1. Using a credit card to keep the CD from spinning.

2. Ejecting the CD in every program I can think of.

3. Going into Terminal and entering the eject command.

Whenever I boot up my computer, it takes about 20 minutes before my computer gives up on trying to eject the CD. I've tried pretty much everything. I'm trying to avoid taking this to the Genius Bar if possible. I'm a college kid and as such can't really afford to lose my computer for them to fix it. Anyone have any other suggestions? (i.e. is there a manual eject that anyone wants to suggest? Or anything else?)

Windows On Mac :: Vmware Windows 7 With Networking Wont Show Up In The Media Streaming Options?

Jan 27, 2010

Im having trouble with VMware.. If I set the wireless network connection to NAT, the internet works, but my xbox 360 wont show up in the media streaming options in windows media player. However, if I change the network settings to bridged, I lose my internet connection (well.. sometimes it works.. 80% of the time it doesnt..) Connecting to bridged is the only way I can connect to my 360, and only some of the time where the internet will work. Is there a way to fix the problem with bridged or NAT so they both work together?

OS X :: Cannot Boot From Any Media - Kernel Panic On Startup

Nov 16, 2009

I moved over to an IMac from windows about 2 years ago and have never had any issues, until now. Whenever I boot my IMac I get a 'kernel panic' message (grey screen with 'you need to restart your computer in 4 languages). I cannot boot from my Mac HD, nor from a bootable superduper backup external HD, nor from my orginal SL or Leopard disk. All go into the kernel panic. I can however boot from my bootcamp Windows Vista partition. Tried booting into safe mode also does not work and gives the kernel panic screen. I have run both the standard and extended hardware tests and both have no errors. I booted in single user mode (that still works)and done a fcsk and unmount and both are without errors. Also done RAM flash. In single user modei can not find a PanicReporter directory or panic log. Cannot even install a fresh SL copy as my DVD wont boot either.

OS X :: PS3 Media Server Only Sees Boot Drive?

Jun 12, 2010

I'm not sure if this is intended behavior or not. I just installed PS3 Media Server on my Mac Pro (Snow Leopard 10.6.3) and under Navigation/Share Settings under shared folders when I click add I can only select folders on my OS/boot drive and nothing else.

I've never used this on a Mac before but when I was running it on a Windows box I could just go there and hit add and pick whatever folder I wanted on whatever volume/drive I wanted.

Is there some config/change I need to do so it can view other drives/volumes?

MacBook Pro :: No Boot Up Because Optical Drive Has Media In It

Mar 23, 2012

I recently purchased Snow Leopard to upgrade my early Intel MacBook Pro. When I put the disk in the disk didn't mount so I attempted to get it to eject. I wasn't able to get it to eject so I followed some of the trouble shooting. I'm thinking my optical drive isn't working properly because I haven't used it in a while but now when I try to boot the computer it hangs when it try's to read the optical drive. I tried forcing it to eject using the mouse button as well as trying to force a hard drive boot by holding the "d" key. At this point is there anything I can do short of opening it up and pulling out the disk myself?

Mac :: Mac Mini Windows Seven Options With Boot Camp?

Sep 2, 2010

I've had the new version of the Mac Mini ever since it came out, and just now, I've run into my first major problem with it.So the first thing I did, since I'm a huge gamer, was use Boot Camp to install Windows 7 on my mac mini. It has been working absolutely flawlessly until recently, and I only just noticed this major problem.I rarely use the Mac OS, but now, when I need to for a school project, I can't get into the Mac OS part of my partition.I've owned a Macbook Pro before and I had Windows Vista installed on there via boot camp, as well, and I used to use the method of holding down the alt button on my keyboard to switch between which partitions I wanted to use. Now my problem is that for some reason, whenever I restart, even when I hold down alt, the computer boots straight into whichever hard disk is loaded as my main hard disk. I believe this is because I'm using a Windows-based keyboard, and not a mac keyboard. Does anybody else run a mac with a windows based keyboard and know if there is a workaround for switching up boot disks?

Windows On Mac :: Boot Options Gone After Vista Install?

Dec 28, 2009

Using bootcamp assistant to install Vista on a separate partition I was able to successfully screw a number of things up. First, after a restart with the Vista dvd in it claimed the partition bootcamp setup was not the proper file format. Wonderful. So I foolishly allowed the Vista installer to format that partition for me and install itself.

Restarted after done and Vista loaded perfectly (though apparently the drivers didn't support my native 30" screen resolution) which was annoying. I restarted Vista hoping to be able to choose from OSX or Vista, but it booted directly into Vista again.

Holding down the option key I was able to force the boot selector and was able to log in to OSX. Using bootcamp I then removed the dual boot and Vista partition. However when I start my machine, I am now told there is no bootable device present. I am forced to hold the option key down and select it manually which is annoying.

SO, the question is, how do I correct the boot issue and make my OSX drive/partition bootable and the default.

This Mac Pro is new to me and my time/exposure on Macs have been very limited up to this point so consider me fairly new to the Mac world. Having used various Linux distros I do understand the concept behind console so if I need to modify anything within the console I'm not totally wet behind the ears.
