I'm having a weird problem with the 1.3 version of EMI Firmware Update.
After I restart my computer after installation, everything seems okay. But a couple of days later, Software Update prompts me that I need to install exactly the same firmware update again, as if I hadn't installed it in the first place.
I have three Airport Express units around my house, and I regularly stream to them from my mauc using airplay. Last week I updated the firmware for the AE's and now none of them show up as remote speakers in itunes. Even the little airplay icon is gone from iTunes.
So I just got this new Mybook 2 TB drive at costco, and it says it needs an update to firmware, but I'm nervous because I have data on it that's not backed up. Does updating the firmware affect the data on the drives?
Intel X25-M 160GB, how do I find out if it has the latest firmware v1.5 from Dec 8, 2009. And is the Solid State Drive Toolbox v1.3 from Mar 22, 1010 worth downloading?Intel's download/support page doesn't tell you how to know if your SSD has the latest firmware or not.
I was travelling and added a firmware password a few months back, I now want to disable this to install Ubuntu on a partition of my MacBook - but there are no directions how to in the utility.I looked at the Apple doc I originally used to set the password: [URL]/HT1352, and I cannot find a companion document for taking it off. So, if anyone knows how I go about doing this,
i am currently using snow leopard, and I am waiting for this summer to update to mountain lion. Right now, I need the a new feature of imovie for my project, so I am thinking about buying Life 11 at this moment. However, I just want to make sure that, will updating my OS X includes updating my imovie, iphoto and everything? If yes, then I probably dont need to buy Life 11 to update my imovie now/
Just received SuperDrive Firmware Update 3.0, MacBook EFI Firmware Update 1.4, and AirPort Client Update 2009-002 1.0 on Software Update for 13" Unibody MacBook.
I have a iMac G3. I can't make it boot from the CD to install the OS. Keep pressing the C key, but no luck. How can I edit it in open firmware to make it boot from the CD? Or, is there another option to install the OS from a different Mac? I have Mac OS X installed on a PC.
SSD bandwagon, and have a question. I bought a 2.5" Vertex 2 60GB, which seems to be doing very well in all the benchmarks. I know OSX has no TRIMM support yet, and there is a lot of rumbling about using the right firmware in order to increase the SSD's lifespan. I read I'll probably have to use Windows in order to update the firmware in OCZ SSD's. Can anyone tell me, how I can check the firmware version of the SSD using OSX ? Can it be done, or do you need Windows for this as well ?? I have no idea what firmware it runs, so there is no way to know if it needs updating.
I've just got my hands on three G4 AGP Power Macs and in my rush to upgrade them to OSX I didn't upgrade the firmware. I now find that I can't use 512mb Ram as it only works with the current firmware update. But I no longer have OS9 to boot from so how do I update it? Or where can I find OS9?
I get this error: "unexpected error occurred (0); unable to upgrade firmware". They refer me to this site: [URL]. I just bought this late 08 MBP and I have a bootcamp partition running Windows XP Pro 32Bit on a NTFS partition. Why is this so complicated? Macs have always been easy on me until this. They tell me to do a full reinstall but I don't understand how this will fix the problem since I don't know where this comes from. It says to go check my "Partition Map Scheme" and I have a "Master Boot Record". It says I need a "GUID_partition_scheme". How come I don't have a "GUID_partition_scheme"?
where can i find the 7.3.1 firmware for the AEBS? I had upgraded at to 7.4.1 and am currently having issues thus would like to restore to the old firmware. But alas I wasn't able to find my old copy. Had look around the net but was mostly point to 7.4.1 firmware.
I tried to apply the firmware update to the Intel X25-M SSD on my 09 MP yesterday. I'm not currently having any issues with the SSD, but thought I would be proactive about updating. The update failed , and I received the following recommended changes before trying again:- Disable Drive Protection in your BIOS and retry the update- Enable Legacy IDE mode in your BIOS and retry the updateHas anyone out there successfully applied this update on an 09 Mac Pro? If so, were any tweaks needed to make it work?
A while ago, I set a firmware password on my Unibody MBP's HD and now I'd like to remove it. (I haven't forgotten it or anything, I'd just like to remove it)
I did it using the Leopard install DVD (firmware password utility) but when I open that utility again, there's no option to 'turn it off' .
If rev C runs the GPU at a higher speed and hw otherwise is the same as rev B then why couldn't Apple release a firmware update to let rev BGPU rum faster as well?
I have a mid 2007 white 17" iMac, a mid 2007 mac mini, a late 2007 20" Aluminum iMac, and a late 2009 13.3" MBP. How can I tell if all of these computers have the latest firmware updates on them? If I simply do the software updates will that update the firmware?
Just got this through Software Update. More info here:

About MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.8 This update eliminates the noise made by the optical disk drive during system startup and wake from sleep on MacBook Pro computers. When installation is complete, run Software Update again, and install SuperDrive Firmware Update 3.0
To complete the firmware update process, follow the instructions in the updater application (/Applications/Utilities/MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update.app). The updater will launch automatically when the installation is complete.
A few months ago I upgraded my EFI Firmware on my Uni-MBP 13" to 1.7 and was getting constant Freeze and stalls. I then found out that it was because of the EFI firmware, so I went back to 1.6 and now its working fine.
Have apple fix this problem with a new upgrade like 1.8 of some sort? And if I was to Upgrade to SL would they have this problem as well?
Can someone point me to a link or provide some clarity on what NOT having a firmware password means in terms of security and, as a home user, do i need to put on on?
All my personal files are in 'Knox' dmgs - i work out of the dmgs - works perfectly. But i dont know for sure where else other background/usage info is stored on the computer.
I remember i while back reading that without firmware password if someone got your mbp (physical possession) then they could reset the password and get into your user account (with mac osx cd) ... can someone confirm (im reasonably sure this is correct).
I had the password on my last mbp but havent got around to putting it on this new one. I was about to today but its been awhile and maybe there is new information or perspective for me to consider.
I've got a Mac Pro that stops recognizing my BD-ROM drive after it goes to sleep. I've been trying to reset the PRAM and NVRAM, per applecare's suggestion, but everytime I plug my Mac Pro in, it automatically starts up. I've turned off the "automatically restart" option in System Preferences, but it's as if all of that is stuck! So, I'm trying to reset the firmware using the firmware restoration CD, but when I hold down the "power" button, the computer's LED light flashes much more than three times, the computer gives a non-chime beep, then gives the chime, and then starts up using the Macintosh HD like I'm not holding down the power button. Is there another way to get to the point where I can use the firmware restortaion CD? It's driving me crazy. I thought it was because I was plugged into an Uninteruptable Power Supply, but I plugged it into a normal power strip and there was no change.

At my company, we have a MacBookPro8,2, running Lion v10.7.3.. We are trying to set the firmware password on it and don't seem to be able to do so. Booting from the Recovery Partition, we choose the Firmware Password Utility, turn it on and set the password. Upon rebooting and holding down the Alt/Option key on the keyboard, we are not presented with the lock icon, nor are we asked to enter the password we just set. Booting back into the Recovery partition and opening the Firmware Password Utility, we must enable it again and set the password again.
I have had a problem with this EFI frimware 2.6 update, that does not seem to want to be updated. Is there a problem with my MBP or what do i need to do to be able to complete the update and get rid of it. everytime i click on software updates, i see this update still there even though i installed it many times, however, its still there. This could only mean one thing either it did not install or there is an error with the software update reporting that its still not updated. Â

I have just installed a 3.5 OCZ Vertex 2 SSD into my 2008 MacPro to replace an old HD that contains OSX and applications. I formatted the SDD with Disk Utility then used Carbon Copy Cloner to transfer the data from my old HD to to the new SSD.
I 'm using the MacBook Pro. I recieved a following note when I update OS from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6.
"A networking error has occurred: Cannot open file (-3001). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again." But connecting is OK. Can you show me what I have to do ?
