OS X :: Downgraded To Leopard - Lost Dashboard - Address Book
Nov 7, 2009
I recently downgraded from Snow Leopard to Leopard and after getting back to Leopard I realized that most of the OS X apps such as Dashboard, Address Book, Automator, etc. are all not working. (They still appear under the APP folder but with the APP icon and a circle+cross through them). I'm assuming this has something to do with SL being a newer version than Leopard. I backed up everything in Time Machine before the switch but I'm not sure what to do about getting those Apps back?

i was going from Tiger to Leopard on a G5 desktop. I was having some trouble, and someone at apple advised me to do an archive and install without preserving my network settings. Leopard is installed, I've gotten all my documents back, but I can't find my calendar, address book or web bookmarks.

I just upgraded to OS X 10.6 and in the process I lost almost all of my contacts in Address Book. I did a full backup before I did the upgrade, so I expect I still have the file even if it isn't still on the hard disk.

My main address book, the one that can be edited, is fine. The one that comes up when you click on 'Address book" in mail suddenly lost all the names. How do I get the names back in it? The group names are there, but the individual names are 'somewhere in cyberspace".

From a disk crash I have lost my address book contacts. I have files that I think are the v-cards (from a backup) but address book does not think they are valid v-cards and will not import them.

I have lost all of my address book contacts. I have done a search for AddressBook.data and can't find any files. There are only two variables I can name that may be at fault. One, I deleted the Address Book widget from my Dashboard the other day. Two, I installed Snow Leopard on Friday. Any ideas of how I can find my lost data? I went into my Time Machine and I can't seem to find it, even in past copies.

I synced my Nokia 6300 with Address Book and all about 450 contacts were transferred successfully. I used the iSync. In the meantime, I added some 50 more contacts to my cell phone Contacts and wanted to sync them with address book as well. So, I deleted all the existing 450 contacts from the Address Book on my Mac, hoping the next time I sync cellphone with computer, only the new 50 contacts will be transferred to Address Book. Here is what I ended up with: Address Book with only 50 new contacts and CELL PHONE with only 50 SAME contacts! All of the previous 450 contacts just disappeared from my cell phone! Just like that! I was wondering if there is any chance I can retrieve my contacts, it does not matter where to...either cell phone or Address Book on my Mac. Btw, I am using Leopard 10.5.8 and I have searched all over the web, everybody is mentioning some AddressBook.data.previous file but I cannot find it anywhere! I even created Automator ShowAllFiles Finder Plug in, the Addressbook.data.pevious just is not there. Is there any hope for my contacts or should I try to do something?

I have lost all my address book and iCal content on my MacBook Pro. How do I restore from my iPhone? I tried synchronising my iPhone to the MacPro but then lost all the content on the iPhone. I managed to get it back using the restore. This means the only content I have for Address Book and iCal sits on my iPhone!

I have a Mac Mini, iPhone 4s and iPad 2. I noticed in the address book on the Mac there were two of each contact so I deleted one of each. This has wiped the entire address book on iCloud and lost contacts on all devices can I get them back? I expect the Cloud has been erased and that I am not able to retrieve my contacts.

Snow Leopard 10.6. Address Book SELECTIVELY allows deletion of a multiple contact entry. The updating of the contact database, as as function of the installation of Snow Leopard, produces/creates/brings to your attention, multiples of some contacts that did not exist prior to the upgrade. Most duplicates or triplicates you cannot delete. Some will allow you to delete one but not the other. You can delete them using MobileMe or on the iPhone but not by using the Address Book.

A couple of days ago, I updated from Tiger to Snow Leopard. It went well, so I thought. Last night, I discovered that my address book had lost all of its contacts - the only one there was me. Is there a place that I can look for this file, in case this is just caused by a disconnect between the program and the file? What is the file called? I do have some folders in ~/library/application support/address book:
(ABPerson.skIndex
ABPerson.skIndexInverted
AddressBook-v22.abcddb
AddressBook.data
AddressBook.data.beforesave
AddressBook.data.previous
Configuration.plist
Images
MailRecents-v4.abcdmr
Metadata)
But none of them can be opened by the Address book app.

Mountain Lion won't run on my Intel-graphics dual core white MacBook. Lion should run, but I've been disappointed with Lion and it is now end-of-life (mercifully short). So I've a perfectly fine and responsive Snow Leopard machine. Only problem -- when MobileMe dies in June Address Book on that device won't sync with our iPhone [1].Â
I know Apple doesn't allow 3rd parties to sync anything to iCloud. So there's no solution that way. One approach is to use a 3rd party app to sync Address Book on this machine with Address Book on another machine that in turn syncs with iCloud.Â
The easier approach is to go all Google; sync Address Book to Google, set the iPhone to use a Google Apps account. (Ironic that Apple's obsoleting a solid MacBook should drive us to Google.)Â [1] For various reasons the iPhone syncs to another machine with our family app/media library. So I can't sync Address Book via iTunes.

I have OS 10.7 (latest version) installed on a MacBook Pro, and iOS5 on my iPhone. I recently migrated to iCloud from MobileMe. Â However, my company still uses OS 10.6.8.Â
How can I get my Address Book on my work Mac, running OS 10.6.8 to sync with my iCloud account?Â
How do I set up the iCloud account in my address book? Where is the Contacts server?Â
And please don't tell me to upgrade to 10.7. That's not an option.

I finally updated my Mac from Leopard 10.5.8 to 10.6. I got all the latest updates (10.6.8) and am still transferring my apps but having trouble with Apple's Address Book and iCal. I did an export from both on my 10.5 OS then tried importing them into the respective apps under 10.6  When I try that iCal it says "nothing changed". Address Book just hangs. I still have my old 10.5 OS installation on another drive in my Mac Pro and can boot into it if necessary.
