View 39 RepliesSo i learned how to make icons and customize the icons for applications. I attached a picture of my new iChat icon. It's a blue mushroom from Super Mario Bros. Now also in the picture is the red badge with the number 1 indicating i have one new message. How could i change that red badge to a coin? I have the coin image and everything.

I was just wondering how people customize their docks so well. I download most of my icons from iconfactory, although really the only one I liked was "Agua Onyx" but it didn't come with the ones of apps like firefox, iTunes, etc.

I have been searching the internet for ways to customize my imac themes with different icons, themes, etc. I have come across some with some sites and answers but none seem to do what I want. What is the best source for this? What do you all use and how do you do it? I am running Snow Leopard.
View 4 Replies View RelatedHaving just installed a fresh copy of Win7 (again) and getting a real good look at it, I find the file management to be utterly appalling compared to OSX. The control panel is a big mess with everything ordered hapazardly (why couldn't MS borrow from Apple's system preferences??). The Explorer is a joke. I want my directory hierarchies to expand in columnar format like it does in the finder. Also, when I drag files from one explorer window to another explorer window, the target explorer window should get the primary focus when I hover over it but it doesn't. I have to actually alt-tab my way to do that (in the non-sensical way Win7 does it). Start Menu and task bar just doesn't compare to the dock. Does anyone know of any enhancements to Win7 that can mimmick the behavior of OSX's finder, add a dock and any other important refinements to this rather bloated and badly designed OS?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm a long - very long - time user of Firefox but would like to switch to Safari as FF seems to suck lots of CPU on my Mac (in fact it seems to do so on any *nix OS ) but there's one thing that I can't get used to, which is the Close Tab button being on the left of the tabs in Safari whereas it's on the right in FF.
OK, so there's nothing inherently better about them being on the right, it's just that I've got so used to it that I can't seem to break the habit of clicking over to the left-hand side of a tab when i select it which of course in Safari closes the damn thing. What makes it even more annoying is that there doesn't appear to be a Re-open Last Closed Tab command in Safari as there is in FF (Cmd-Shift-T).
Is there an undocumented command-line option to switch the close buttons to the right-hand side and/or a Re-open Last Closed Tab command?
Have searched forums and found no direct answer for my Q which is ...
How do I change the background fill on the login screen window from solid to transparent or translucent?
Reason is cosmetic ... solid window is screen centered and blocks too much of HD wallpaper.
I am new to the Mac OS world as I only got a mac one week ago. I'm learning lots of new stuff everyday but can't seem to figure out how to make my applications show up at the Guest Account Dock or even at the Applications folder for that matter. I got Microsoft Office for Mac and it works fine and all on my User account (admin) but i cant make it show up at the applications folder or at the dock so when someone borrows my laptop for some office editing they have to be logged on my account. Is there a way to customize the applications that show up on Guest Accounts?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have only recently switched to Mac and was looking for a browser that had a few more options to suit my needs than safari (tried pimp my safari) and so downloaded FireFox and I love the customize google app or plug in. It's brilliant. But as FireFox doesn't use keychain (what are the disadvantages of this) I was wondering if anyone knew of an app or plug in that can customize google for safari in the same way? How I can add buttons to the toolbar. The supplied toolbar is pretty limiting. How I can improve my safari so that I can keep everything integrated or will I have to stick with FireFox?
View 12 Replies View RelatedForgive me for not knowing the proper terminology. I have a MacBook Pro running the latest Snow Leopard. I am the only user on my laptop. When I turn on my laptop, it just starts up and I am in. No login. But I recently decided that I should increase my security a little by having the OS prompt me for my password upon waking up from sleep/screensaver. Is there any way to customize the little, basic window that appears where I enter my password? Most forum entries discuss the login window, but I don't think that's what this is called. I'm not really logging in - just unlocking it. I'd like to be able to customize the appearance of the window, the text, maybe make sounds if the wrong password is entered, etc. Main reason for this is for security purposes. If someone tries to use my laptop while it's sitting on my desk at work, I'd like to know (and would like him/her to know I know). Maybe hear it - maybe see some message.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there anyway to limit what is and is not shared on home sharing (in iTunes)? My roommates keep swiping my ringtones, and it psyches me out when I hear my custom tone and it's not my phone doing it. I don't mind sharing music and videos, but I'd like to keep my ringtones to myself.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using 3.0.10 with Leopard 10.5.7. The way the older versions of Firefox worked was if you saved a password to the keychain and then return to the webesite at some future time, it would automatically display the user ID and PW in the login fields of the site.
But now I find you have to type the first character of the user ID in order for it to display the rest of it. I find that a pain in the neck. Can anyone tell me how to get it to work the old way? Either with terminal or an add-on I can trust? If I am not mistaken, there is a way to enter an area in FF that displays a long list of unix defaults that you can change.
I wanted to send a message and suddenly got notification that Mail app is unable to send the message using Yahoo server, which I noticed being listed as offline. I clicked on "check connection" and it showed Gmail IMAP and IMAP as well as Yahoo IMAP being connected while Yahoo SMTP not. On the right side of Yahoo SMTP Red "dot" there was the instruction, which recommended to check settings of the network connection as well as to make sure if the server supports SSL, and if "NO" - deselect it. I'm not as tech savvy so the marked part is just the Chinese language for me: what is SSL, how to check if the server supports it etc?

Unfortunately, this black box in the upper-left hand corner somehow appeared and now won't go away. I then uninstalled and am now running GeekTool 3.0. The problem persists. I want to group my applications in the dock into drawers. I keep frequently used programs in the dock to make it quick to open. But I would also like to group (for example all the programs for photos) some applications into one dock space. There are times I cannot remember the exact name of the program I want, just that it (for example) has to do with manipulating photos.

Can that annoying right-bottom tip corner used to sizing windows be replaced with stretch arrows like in Windows?
I downloaded the gmail extension and when I installed it immediately showed up in the toolbar, but that was not the case with the reload button, so now when I go to the customize toolbar pop-up menu Safari just crashes when I roll over it.
