OS X :: Cursor Inconsistency - Not Computer Specific?
Mar 7, 2010
Have 2 users on one computer (Mac Book Pro) using 10.5.8. For the second user logged on, when the cursor changes from an arrow to another shape by a program, it stays that way, either than going back to an arrow when used in another program or on the desktop. If the 1st user logs out prior then this does not happen. Not computer specific and happened with 10.4.11 also. Apple genius could not solve since it does NOT always happen.
My screen has a strange brightness inconsistency in the center of the screen where the Apple logo is. It is as if the pixels surrounding it are not the same brightness as those of the remainder of the screen. It was purchased on 4/11/11 so warranty is not an issue (I have Apple Care).
Info: Mac OS X (10.6.8), 8GB RAM, 2.2 QuadCore i7, 15.4
Is there a way to temporarily disable wireless network access for a specific computer, rather than changing the network password or creating a new network altogether? I'd like to be able to grant the computer access to the network when I want (and control this from the admin computer, without having to change anything on the computer for limited access).
I have a Powerbook intel and have some Grey Leopard install DVD which say "For Mac Computers" Mac Osx Install Disc 1 and 2. Can anyone tell me is these will work on any Mac which meets the minimum requirements to install. They are original and just confirm they aren't computer specific with them saying for Mac Computers.
I would like to know if my MacBook Pro connected to WiFi has a specific I.D. or IP address linked to my Computer that Google can read when i open an account ( adwords account ) ?Is there any way Google can tell that the same Computer hasopened several accounts with the same machine ?
Anyone come across this? I 've been having it a lot recently on my imac, not my pbook though, and I can't seem to find how to fix it... very strange behaviour, as soon as you start writing the cursor vanishes...make for some very hard writing I tell you...
Well, that's ms, they might even have it as an option somewhere that I cannot find...
And more importantly, why does only one of my SL Macs have it? The same was so for Leopard, one of the Macs (same one) didn't have this. I find it tremendously useful, but cannot locate the way to activate it on the other Mac's Finder.
I can't connect to a certain web site -[URL] I am running 10.6.4, and all my browsers - Safari, Firefox, Chrome - don't open that site. I get the same connection error that I would get when I enter something in the address bar that does not exist.
Funny thing is: I can connect to Zenfolio from my iPod touch on the same router. So it should be a problem with my computer - but what could be wrong? No entries in "Proxies", and the hosts file looks innocent as well...
I know theres a million threads about sleeves, so all I can say is I looked through many
basically I'm looking for the 13 MBA equivalent of this for the MBP:
[URL] Something well padded and somewhat rigid so I could throw it in my backpack or briefcase, with a pocket that could hold small stuff (hdmi cable, iphone cord, earbuds)
anything like that for an air? or would you not be concerned about the extra space in that guy designed for a MBP
i've been having a problem since 2 days ago. i've got a japanese keyboard connected to a mac pro (leopard) and ever since 2 days ago, the "kana" button that toggles between english and japanese has been defective. the other button which toggles from japanese to english works. it's very strange! i've tried resetting PRAM and repairing permissions, to no avail. i must also mention that prior to this happening, i've had instances where i wouldn't touch the keyboard and the "J" would be mysteriously pressed...
i've moved to toronto and i'm wondering it might not be possible for the applestore to give me another keyboard in japanese. they may give me another one in english but i prefer the japanese for convenience.
I was wondering I have been playing World of Warcraft for a long time now, and I was just beginning to play around with the graphics settings, and Im on that border line where if I have my graphics set to full my FPS isn't quite there and so I was wondering if there was something I could do, or something that sped up the foreground application or chosen application or something, know what I mean? As this would hopefully just bump up my speed a tad. So that it focused it processing power on the application in use.
Also, while typing the above I just thought, when Snow Leopard comes, the OS itself will be a lot speedier, as well as applications like Safari, and the other Apple apps including in OS X, but will it significantly speed up normal other apps as well?
How do I crop (not resize) a picture to a specific (pixel by pixel) size? You know how on some forums, avatars are recommended to be "128 x 128" pixels? How can I do that? (In Preview, crop is a "guessing"-drag-y crop).
I did this with MSPaint in Windows *sigh*. Mac really needs a simple Paint-ish application. (Yes I know people have complained about this).
PS: If someone mentions Photoshop, I'm going to tear my hair out.
I'm using 2 network interfaces. One wifi, which is fast, and one ethernet, which is my internal connection. I want to download and browse with the wifi one, and stream and sometimes browse through the ethernet one. How can I tell apps to use either wifi or ethernet?
My buddy's hard drive got all messed up when he installed snow leopard, so it needs to be wiped clean and reinstalled. I can only boot from the DVD install disk. My question is, how do I back up specific files he wants to save on an external hard drive before I wipe it clean? I tried just backing up the whole drive by using Restore in disk utility, but it wouldn't work. Is there anyway I can navigate the hard drive to copy the files I need onto the external while booting from the install disk?
My MacBook simply does not get along with one specific DVD, and I can't figure out why. It's the third disc in a set of four (First 13 episodes of Glee on DVD -- don't judge), and the others play perfectly. The disc is flawless, as far as I can tell, but for some reason, my MacBook won't recognize it. When I put it in, it sounds like the disc is trying to spin but can't. It does this for about ten seconds and then it gets spit back out.
The DVD will play anywhere else but the MacBook and the MacBook will play anything else except that DVD. I would just accept that this DVD and my Mac will never be friends IF it was just a stand alone DVD, but like I said, it's from a set of four. They should all be in the same format/region/what have you, right?
It has been this way ever since I reset the modem a few weeks ago. I cannot connect to certain websites that I know are not down. If I am able to connect briefly to a neighbor's wireless, the websites work fine. I just reset the modem a few minutes ago and the problem hasn't gone away. I've tried troubleshooting on google but all I get are PC solutions.
Turns out that on days when I'm not at work, a co-worker is using my computer to access two specific porn sites. I would just like to block those sites to see if he gets the hint before reporting the problem. I can't just log the computer off when I'm not around.
**Bonus Challenge: Can I redirect him to, say, a page on my own domain that will let him know that he is busted?
These are my specifications:
OS: 10.4
Browser: Safari
Connection: DSL
Network: Hard-wired ethernet, connected to network printer but not to any other computers on the network.
I've got an external HD hooked up to my iMac and it has some software on there that brings up a CD icon on the desktop.
Is there a way to hide just that specific icon?
I know you can go to Finder and uncheck so that it doesn't show CD/DVD icons on the desktop...but that would mean anytime I pop in a CD it wouldn't show up and I don't want that, just want to hide the specific App icon.
I was wondering if anyone knew of a dock theme or hack that I could install relatively painlessly on 10.6.4 that makes the Dock, when placed at the bottom, look like it does when placed on either side of the screen. I've been looking all over the place but all I've found are themes for Candybar and co. that make the reflective bottom area some weird different color or texture. I would like to see a theme that makes the Dock more 2D-ish and at least similar to what you see on the sides of the screen when placed there.
I want to separate the application folders of both myself and my girlfriend using the same Mac. She doesn't need to see my system tweaking tools and DVD conversion software, and likewise, I don't need to see her BlackBerry Desktop software and Facebook album tools. Currently, all apps reside in HD/Applications, as is default. My question is: is it safe to simply copy all applications into HD/User/USERNAME/Applications, or is this going to cause problems will existing file structures?
How do I go about print specific pages from a file/PDF? Say I want to print random pages like page 5, 9, 14 that do not go in order so the print X to X pages doesn't work for me. Any way to do that without having to send the pages for printing individually?
I almost dropped my wireless keyboard. I pressed some random buttons and a screen appeared like with all my TV Shows, Movies, Music, Etc. How do I get back to it? It looks cool. It's sort-of like Windows Media Center. It's not iTunes btw.
I'm aware that in installing Leopard on a drive using one Mac it can then be booted on another Mac without a problem.
I'm getting a new MacBook Pro this christmas (mainly out of selling my existing iMac 08) I want to back up everything before selling the it. I have already bought a 320gb SATA drive to upgrade the MBPro, if I just install Mac Leopard onto the drive using my iMac and an external enclosure and backup all my stuff to it, will it work 100% on the MBPro? - Or is there certain things which are specifically installed when installing on the Mac...?
Just heard that Mac's Install disks are machine specific. Is that really the case? If so, why? Coming from the PC world, I'm used to just putting the OS disk in the CD/DVD drive and take it from there. So, if I want to install a Mac OS on my machine not only do I have to obtain the OS, I also have to get the proper Install CDs/DVD's or what? Please clear up the fog Mac experts.
i noticed that my internet, while working just fine in firefox, refuses to work in mail or ichat. Also, i have only found one page that refuses to load (the most important of course) which is [URL]. Has anyone had this problem before?
