I bought my MBP around a year ago (beginning of April), and after nearly a year of usage, it seems to have grown really strange black markings along the front edge of the laptop. It's way ingrained into the aluminum which means it has to be a sign of corrosion, something I find to be extremely unusual, given the build quality of this beaute (this is my first mac).
I'm not entirely outraged (it's not a shattered screen), but it does get annoying and it is a sign of cosmetic damage that definitely isn't a part of the normal 'wear and tear'.
Would my machine be eligible for a replacement? Mine's the base 2.4/2/250gb model, and I was wondering what they would replace it with.

I sent in my MBA for repair last week to a repair depot, and they say that there is corrosion on the motherboard from liquid damage. The problem with me is that the computer has never had any contact with liquids, especially in the area where the motherboard is. Can anyone show me where the corrosion is on this?

I don't know what to say, I thought I didn't have this problem, as it hadn't started but now that just about a year has passed since I bought my Powerbook it is starting to develop black dots. The aluminum on the palm rests is corroding, also called pitting. It is a reaction of the body chemicals with the aluminum and can get pretty bad.
I've attached a picture so people can see what I am talking about.
Although mine isn't as bad as the picture, it is getting there and Apple will do nothing about it since it is purely cosmetical. I guess I'm just pissed right now, I know I can use clear PDA screen protectors and the such and I do right now, but I cannot say which one are uglier the dots or the screen protector thingies. I'm thinking about taking them off again, I don't know. Fixing this, what I'd need to do when it becomes really bad, would cost about $200.
I don't know what to say, I guess it is just a computer but it still is bugging the hell outta me.

I have a 13" MacBook 1st Gen aluminum enclosure (fall 2008) with replacable bettery. I took it to the Apple store after water was spilled on it. They advised there was corrosion to the display connector (display was not lighting up) and the logic board and recommended replacing both for $750, free labor because under warranty.
Here's my questions:
1) Are the repairs a fair price (2.4ghz logic board, 13" display)
2) Can I do the repairs myself and save money by buying the parts elsewhere? My hardware computer experience is limited to upgrading hard drives and ram on desktops.)
3) Should I instead get a new white Macbook? We use this for playing videos on the TV, email, writing and internet. My only complaint with the current MacBook was the battery life ~2.5 hours.

One of the very rare occasions when I actually have a complaint about an Apple product (or at least an unresolved issue.)
Behold:
After several months of use, I've noticed that the aluminum finish on my Magic Mouse (near to where my thumb and ring finger rest) seems to be flaking off or otherwise corroding somehow.
It's not a stain, as nothing I've tried will remove it.
I also noticed some slight corrosion or flaking on the topmost line of the edge (the sharper edge) of the mouse where the aluminum housing meets top of the mouse. The damage is on both sides of the mouse in either case.
Needless to say, I'm quite displeased. I take very good care of all my Apple hardware, I keep them spotless. I don't use any harsh, abrasive cleaners to keep them looking like new. My hands are usually clean - just as clean as any other user's hand. Maybe too clean. In this age of H1N1 and other various nasties floating around, hand-washing has been raised to almost obsessive levels.
I assume the Magic Mouse's finish would be durable enough to withstand regular use.
I wonder whether this has happened to anyone else.

I own a Black macbook (summer 2008, so about two years old) which is in good condition except that it is dirty - especially the screen, which seems to have picked up keyboard marks which won't seem to come out. I have been reading about the best way to clean it, and there seem to be 4 general suggestions:
1. Clean using a damp microfiber cloth like an eyeglasses cleaner.
2. Clean using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser
3. Clean using soap & water.
4. Purchase a specific mac cleaning toolkit like iKlear.
I tried option (1) a while ago and it cleaned the black macbook's body pretty well but not the screen. I have heard that (2) is great for the body but that it will damage the screen because the magic eraser is like "damp sand paper." That doesn't sound very screen-friendly. I have also heard that (3) will damage the screen's protective coating, though theoretically soap should be able to lift off any oily residue on the screen. (4) could work but it is more expensive, and I am not sure if it will work or not. Modern macs are fabulous and should be good enough to last years and years. I am hoping this one will last at least 3 more, making a total of 5 years, but I want to keep it clean.

I don't know what happend to my websites, but many of them are displaying blue boxes with question marks instead of pictures. Some of the sites are Facebook, Abercombie, Hollister, etc. I read somewhere that it may have been due to the adobe flash update I installed.

My Mac Book Pro screen has these two white blobs on it and they wont clean off so they have to be premanate, I think i recall placing my foot on it while it was closed on the ground. Did really step on it hard but has to be the only reason why this is happening.

Today I fitted a 120GB OCZ Vertex 2, it has made a huge difference to the responsiveness, especially to Lightroom and CS5. I used Xbench to test the change from the standard 7200rpm 500GB HDD to the SSD. I'm interested if they are where.

Just what I needed - another thing to obsess about! On my screen, corresponding to where the bottom line of the keyboard recess is, I have a horizontal marks on my screen. Does anyone else have this? I've tried buffing with some iKlear and a soft cloth but it won't go away. I can't see it when the screen's on but it's bugging me now, as these things tend to do. With my old Powerbook I kept the plastic sheet in between the sceen and keyboard but assumed this was not necessary with the recessed keyboards. Now it seems its the edge of the recess, rather than the keys themselves, which is the problem.

I have been using Mac's for several years. I just replaced my Macbook with the Air. My brother had an Air from the first go around but recently sold it. I did mention to me to always keep the little microfiber cloth on the trackpad when I close the computer as after time it will start to leave marks on the screen.

I'm new to MBP 13'' (2010), just 3 weeks now, and it's my first laptop, so I don't know if this is just normal or not. I have noticed there are several marks on screen appears to be from keyboard edges, say where the "E" key supposed to meet the screen. Looks like small spot scratches, but fortunately they came off when I clean them with damped cloth. It came back after I use and close/open the lid, same spots I think. New MBP design looks like the keys should not touch the screen, but it appears to be keep touching while lid is closed? What about yours, can you see marks when the screen is turned off? Or I may need to worry about screen protection? (if I do cleaning often the same spots I guess it may scratch eventually?)

I have blue stains or marks on my white Macbook casing. The problem seemed to lie in faulty plastic being used, amongst other reasons and excuses given. Some people had serious staining issues and received replacement casings. My Macbook is a 2010 release, either Week 1 or 13 (hard to see on back), serial number beginning W801.

Blue Question marks appear when websites like Facebook have pictures. This began after Uverse was installed in my home. It did not do this previously with ATT High Speed Internet. Uverse claims this is a computer issue.

I'm using a Mac Air, OSX 10.9.2. I've configured Mail to work with my gmail account.
When sending emails adn using apostrophes (e.g. We're, they're, it's) the recipient (on a windows machine running Outlook) sees all the apostrophes as question marks.
Rich Text vs Plain Text doesn't address the issue.

I have 22000+ songs, half of which have the exclamation mark next to them, so you can imagine I don't fancy the prospect of manually deleting the blighters! Mine came about by moving my music to my Mac desktop to format my external drive to make it compatible with Mac and PC and adding the new location to iTunes. I have already spent a silly amount of time looking for a fix, and have already tried uninstalling iTunes, consolidating and organising the library with no luck! To make matters slightly more complicated I am currently using a PC keyboard and don't have the luxury of the command key etc...

Something has changed with Preview on my system running Leopard. For some reason, most PDFs opened in Preview have strange lines in them. But if I open the PDFs with other apps like Adobe Reader, there are no lines. Anyone know what these are, why Preview is displaying them, and how to get rid of them?

I just acquired a 1 GHz 15" Powerbook Ti. It is in good cosmetic condition except for a few dark marks from the keyboard on the screen. I can feel them with a fingernail, so I know they are residue from the keys. Is there any way these can be removed without damaging the screen? I have had very good results using toothpaste and a damp cloth on other surfaces, but I am leery of using even a very mild abrasive on the screen. I have even used newsprint on some sensitive surfaces with good results but if you make an error on the screen, it is either permanent or expensive. I suppose I could try in a corner but I know there are anti-glare coatings on the screens and I could make things worse. This is most noticeable when there is a light-colored area displayed right under the marks.

I've had my iMac since last year and has had these "dirty" screen marks that are on the actual inner screen and cannot be removed. It's really noticable when the screen is on a bright white background (like this one). I've already had the outer glass off and inspected the actual screen and both are immaculate. Is this some type of burn-in that is going to need to be fixed or replaced by Apple?
