May 17, 2012Today I tried to move two applications(safari and calculator) from the Finder to the desktop icon area. When I dragged them I accidentally stopped before I reached to workstation/application area and now both safari.app and Calculator.app are written on my desktop and I can move it, open it, or change it. What should I do to get rid of it?

Jun 6, 2012They're still accessible through finder, but now I can't drag-and-drop anything (at all) to the desktop. It was fine a minute ago before I shut down and rebooted my laptop. Restarts and switching users does nothing. I'm using Mac OSX Lion 10.7.4.

Also(somewhat irrelevant), occasionally when i open firefox, it asks me to drag it in the applications folder, but it's already there. please help. its so annooying

Sep 29, 2008i am a tad stumped by this issue i'm having right now with my new imac. i noticed one day that none of my desktop aliases show any longer. in fact if i go to the desktop folder through finder my files and such show in there however none of my aliases nor those files show on the actual desktop. another thing i've noticed is that whenever i now try to drag and drop anything to the desktop whether it be a URL from safari or an alias i made in finder the dragged item simply just drags itself back to where i pulled it from.

Feb 20, 2008Okay, I'm having some problems with my Powerbook. Yesterday, I upgraded Firefox. When re-opening after the upgrade, I had a kernel panic. I restarted my computer and figured I would be good to go. Well, after logging back in, I found that Finder was acting up and I no longer had any desktop icons. Now, clicking the Finder icon in the dock will open a new Finder window just fine. If I go to the Desktop from there, all my icons are still there. So, I decided to restart my computer and see if that made a difference.

I also cannot right click on my desktop to bring up a contextual menu, my machine appears to be running faultlessly apart from that. I have run Onyx to reset permissions and have checked the disk but cannot seem to find anything wrong.

Mar 23, 2012I had my photo taken during the setup which came out a little fuzzy. Have been trying to replace it now that I am using it but could'nt find the way to do it. Have already installed album photos where I can select one to replace this. This photo appears during sign in to the notebook.Also, since I have a 4 peripherals to use and there are only two USB ports, can I attach a hub to have all four attached. They consist of 1 Wireless mouse, 1 printer and 2 external HD.

Jul 1, 2012I turned my mac on today to find that all the desktop items have either disappeared or are taking a very long time to load if they are there. I have tried turning my computer off and on by pressing the power off button due to being unable to turn it off or restart via the button on the desktop. It is also running really slow but it will load safari and itunes just slowly! what can i do to fix it as I have uni work on there and photos of my family that I will not be able to get back if they are lost.

I've tried everything I can think of (saving them under different names, selecting and deselecting the exif orientation tag box, etc). Nothing works. The photos still show up sideways in the preferences panel.

Sep 17, 2010Having just migrated from windows I'm still trying to get my head around downloading music movies etc from my back up discs I made from itunes. I've reinstalled itunes on my new MBP and afterwards it puts a blue movie and music folder on the desktop. I'm not sure what to do with these as they must contain the actual music and movies. before I deleted these folders and found that when I tried to access the music a window couldn't locate it.
