OS X :: Can You Create A File From Within Finder?

Jan 3, 2010

I've had my macbook for a couple of years now and I just figured you couldn't do this, but I might as well ask:

Can you create a file from within finder?

For example, on Windows machines, you can right click in explorer and it goes something like create new > [folder, text file, word doc, etc]. I know that you can add folders, but I'd love to be able to quickly add a new .txt file without having to open TextEdit first (not that it's any faster, just my workflow).

OS X :: Create File List And Batch File Renaming?

Aug 10, 2009

So in windows I can create a file list, save it to a text file, and create a .bat file with rename commands for each file. for example:

Rename 000055-060409232023-CAM1.jpg cal000image0000055.jpg
Rename 000056-060409232020-CAM1.jpg cal000image0000056.jpg
Rename 000057-060409232016-CAM1.jpg cal000image0000057.jpg
Rename 000058-060409232012-CAM1.jpg cal000image0000058.jpg
Rename 000059-060409232008-CAM1.jpg cal000image0000059.jpg
Rename 000060-060409232004-CAM1.jpg cal000image0000060.jpg
Rename 000061-060409232001-CAM1.jpg cal000image0000061.jpg
Rename 000062-060409231957-CAM1.jpg cal000image0000062.jpg
Rename 000063-060409231953-CAM1.jpg cal000image0000063.jpg

how do I create a file list and then create a way to batch rename in os x? I know the commands, but I don't know of a way to do it on more than one file at a time. I have found a few renaming apps but they all appear to be focused on just iterating up instead of renaming specific files to a new name.

OS X :: How To Create Slideshows Of Pictures In Finder

Jan 7, 2010

I want to create a full screen slideshow of my pictures (from the finder). Coverflow won't do full screen, and Quick Look doesn't work well. If I go full screen I can't skip to the next picture. I can highlight multiple pictures then open Quick Look to be able to scroll to scroll through them, but it's long and tedious. Say I want to just make a slideshow from a folder of pictures without having to highlight everything and open Quick Look, is there a quick way to do this?

I thought of using Front Row (I had never tried it before), but it's telling me Pictures (0) when I have lots of folders and pictures in my home folder. Does Front Row only use pictures imported in iPhoto (which I don't use?) In Front Row, when I click on "Sources", it brings me to "Alex's MacBook" (the name of my computer) but I can't go anywhere from there or even change it, if I click it goes back to the menu.

Software :: How To Create A Folder In Finder Via A Right-click Menu

May 4, 2010

I like to have Finder displaying as a list. It's nice. However, when I try to create a new folder, it puts it at the top-most directory displayed. Very irritating. If possible, I'd like to right-click on an already existing folder and create a folder there (instead of creating it at the top-most directory and then moving the darn thing into place, which seems overly complicated for the task that I'm trying to accomplish.) Is there a way to do this? What about left-clicking on a directory and then pressing some other keyboard/button combination and have a new folder created in there?

OS X Mavericks :: Finder - Replace A File With Another File

Aug 21, 2014

I want a game to play my favorite song when the game is supposed to be playing its own theme song.  The theme song is in a sound file that is located on my computer's hard drive.  The theme song sound file is in the same format as the sound file that contains my favorite song, so I don't need to convert any files.  What is the easiest way to make the game think that the sound file I want the game to use is the sound file of the theme song?

OS X :: Way To Create A Link To File?

Aug 18, 2006

I found a utility that allows me to copy a file's location to the clipboard, but is there a way to create a link to a file location? I'd like to be able to send co-workers a link to files or folders on shared servers, so they can just click the link and get to that location in their Finder. I seem to remember doing this with Windows. Can it be done in OS X?

OS X Technologies :: Create A Log File?

Apr 24, 2012

Been up for a while trying to figure this out with no luck. I created an app that will uninstall a program and all of it's files.

example try                    do shell script "rm -rf /Applications/TestFakeApp"           end try     try                    do shell script "rm -rf /Applications/TestFakeApp2"           end try     try                    do shell script "rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.FakeTestApp.plist"           end try          try                    do shell script "rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.FakeTestApp2.plist" end try          try                    do shell script "rm -rf ~/Library/Logs/FakeTestApp*"           end try          try                    do shell script "rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/FakeTestApp" end try

there are alot more paths to remove but this is just a few for example

I want to be able to create a log.txt file on the desktop to show what has been removed and or what could not be removed.

I then tried by creating a text document by using

do shell script "touch ~/Desktop/test.txt" tell application "Finder" open file ((path to desktop folder as text) & "test.txt") using ((path to applications folder as text) & "TextEdit.app")end tell

but I don't know what to do next.

1. Have it check for each file to see if it was deleted or not

2. add it into the test.txt file

3. save the file once done

OS X :: Finder Won't Copy A Certain File?

Oct 24, 2010

I'm in the midst of backing up an external drive (to another external drive) via Firewire 800, which works fine, but for some strange reason one specific file won't be copied. It's an iDVD file with a filesize of 12.98 GB. All other files have been copied without any problems.

When copying over to the backup drive all seems fine for a while, then (after having copied 4.01 GB) I hear some "clunking" sounds from the source drive followed by the error message shown below. I've tried copying the said file several times and to different backup drives, and in all instances the file copying stops at 4.01 GB.

I've checked both drives with Disk utility and they check out fine. And the iDVD file opens fine in iDVD.
Could it be that MacOSX needs some free "work space" on one or several of the drives in question, which isn't available?

Cureently, the source drive has only 10.63 GB free space, the destination drive has 582 GB available and the computer's (1.67GHz Powerbook G4) internal 80 GB drive has 23 GB free space.
