OS X :: Can I Connect My Macbook To The Apple 30" Display?
Dec 9, 2009
I was wondering whether my macbook would be compatible with the apple 30" display. Here are the specs of my macbook:
1 gig of ram
2ghz
GMA X3100 graphics card
1 mini dvi slot (i have an adapter to dvi)
2 usb ports
1 firewire port
if you need anything else just tell me.
also please confirm that it will work with the apple 20" and 23" displays. (not the new LED displays, but the aluminium ones released in 2004)

I am aware that Sony (PS3) encodes their signal with "HDCP" and the older cinema displays are not able to read that as a direct signal into the monitor (the new ones are, but thats not what I have. I bought mine with my PowerMac G5 days before they switched to the Intel based Mac Pro's). My question to all of you is is there any kind of converter box or unit I can purchase that would let my 20" ACD display a picture encoded with Sony's "HDCP" signal?

My friend's laptop just broke completely beyond repair (trust me this cannot be fixed without sending it out to hp, who wont fix it either). But any way, his mom and him have come to the conclusion that they are done with PC's, and are making the smart move, and going to Mac. Now, they cant afford an iMac, or a Macbook, so I suggested a Mac Mini. They only have a Samsung monitor for their HP, but I just want to know if a Mac Mini can connect to a Non-Apple Display. Yes I know they need adapters which I will help pick out for them when they go to buy it. I think I have heard it can connect to Non-Apple Displays, but I'm not 100% sure.

i am planning to buy an apple's LED cinema display to connect it to my PC.
[URL]
the all new
24-inch (viewable) LED-backlit thin film transistor (TFT) active-matrix liquid crystal display
reason i chose this is because its the best in the market. and its brilliant quality stuff...
at least its the best currently in Indian market...
i want to know if it contains or has the capability to connect with DVI port on my nvidia 8600GT...
will it be able to display the same quality.
or will there be any resolution problem with the type of hardware i have?

What cable(s) do I use? The confusing part here is there are 2 flavors of DVI.
which one my 20" ACD has nor what the iMac can accommodate.

I have a 23" Apple Cinema Display but it only accepts DVI input and my laptop only has HDMI output. Would I be able to buy a HDMI to DVI-I converter without loosing any signal quality? If so, would it be expensive? I know some of them are upwards of $300.

The ridiculously long thread title pretty much says it all. Is it possible to buy one of Apple's ATI Radeon 4870 cards with the mini-display port connection, install them in a PC, and then use the LED Cinema Display with a PC?

The title says it all really... Quite a simple problem that I can't find any answer to!
I've hooked up my 30" Apple Cinema Display to the new iMac 27" and the highest resolution I'm getting as an option is 1280x800... The iMac correctly detects the ACD as a Cinema HD display but limits my resolution. Why oh why?!

I own 23 and 30" Cinema Displays. I like the 23 because everything is larger and easier to read than in the 30". I mostly work in Logic and love that I see lots of things on the 30" but the 23" is much easier on my eyes.Is there such a thing as a display with 2560x1600 (like the 30" Apple) but that is LARGER than a 30 inch so I can see everything bigger in Logic??? Maybe a 34 or 37"? Did a search but haven't come up with anything other than other 30" displays.

I'm going to University next September (hopefully), and I want to be able to play my PS3 on my Macbook display (instead of taking my massive TV).
And I'd also like to be able to connect my freeview box which is a RCA/Scart connection. My PS3 is also RCA/Scart.
So is there adapter of some sort which will let me do this?

I have an old "apple cinema hd display" ... how do I connect to my new mac book pro. The cord coming out of the display is one big cord that turns into 4 cords (1. power, 2. firewire, 3. usb, and 4. the monitor plug that has 2 sets of 9 prongs and 1 dash). I just got a refurbished macbook pro 2.3 GHz Intel core i7 built in Feb 2011.Any ideas how to connect..On another note ... with my wireless apple mouse, what was once swipe down meant scroll down on the screen ... now it's swipe down is scroll up ... is there a way to reverse that? Â

Today when i plugged in my Macbook Pro 13" (early 2011) there was no output. The monitor was in power save, and my compute did not detect the monitor (note i have been using this setup for months without problem). Every time i plug in the dvi cable ( to my mini display port adapter i get the ususal blue flash but then nothing else happens.
I've tried a new dvi cable, tried a different monitor on my mac.then i tried both monitors on a windows computer, and they both work, then i tried using VGA out on the macbook (using another adapter) and that surprisingly worked. Only thing left either the computer (hardware or configuration?) , or the DVI - mini DP adapter. They cost $30 and I really don't want to spend that kind of money on it unless i know that is th cause. is it possible for my mac to have VGA out but DVI/HDMI are broken. or is it just my adapter?
Info:MacBookPro, Mac OS X (10.7)

i have a 15 inch apple studio display which has ADC (was partnered with the cube) and I purchased a DVI adaptor so it now works fine with the DVI port on the macbook pro. I am considering a new mac notebook (not sure which yet) but as these have the new mini display port, is there an adaptor that would slot into the DVI end of my current one, so it would work with the new macbook?
