OS X :: How To Connect Apple Cinema Display To Macbook Pro
Sep 9, 2009
Just got a 20" Apple Cinema Display LCD that didnt come with the power cord. It has a usb, firewire, DVI and the cable to connect the power supply. What is the best way to connect this screen to my MacBook Pro? Is it possible to have it powered through my laptop?
I have a 23" Apple Cinema Display but it only accepts DVI input and my laptop only has HDMI output. Would I be able to buy a HDMI to DVI-I converter without loosing any signal quality? If so, would it be expensive? I know some of them are upwards of $300.
The ridiculously long thread title pretty much says it all. Is it possible to buy one of Apple's ATI Radeon 4870 cards with the mini-display port connection, install them in a PC, and then use the LED Cinema Display with a PC?
I own a MPB and an Apple 30" cinema display with a fill sized DVI connector. For work I have a PC with a female VGA output jack. I tried to use a female 'DVI to male VGA' connector I bought at Frys but the PC just won't drive the ACD.
The new mac book pro only has firewire 800 and mini displayport; but cinema 23" HD has firewire 400 and DVI. How can I connect the cinema to the mac book pro?
I have an old "apple cinema hd display" ... how do I connect to my new mac book pro. The cord coming out of the display is one big cord that turns into 4 cords (1. power, 2. firewire, 3. usb, and 4. the monitor plug that has 2 sets of 9 prongs and 1 dash). I just got a refurbished macbook pro 2.3 GHz Intel core i7 built in Feb 2011.Any ideas how to connect..On another note ... with my wireless apple mouse, what was once swipe down meant scroll down on the screen ... now it's swipe down is scroll up ... is there a way to reverse that?
As the title says, I need a new monitor for my old G5 as the old monitor for it went bust. Apple does not make the old displays that came with the unit anymore and the only available monitor is the new LED ones ? but they all come with mini display ports
if I can connect an Apple Cinema Display (model 1083) to a brand new MacBook Air or MacBook Pro?I have read so many comments about DVI, DVI-D, dual link, single link and different connections that I am not sure where I stand! There is the "Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter" which works with the Thunderbolt port on the Air, but not sure if this will work to connect a 30" Cinema Display to a MacBook Air or Pro?
have been looking around online on how the best way to connect my new Mbp that arrives tomorrow to an old apple LCD cinema display that my dad managed to save from redundancy from one of his work clients. (am being given the screen).
I know there is a mini display port to dvi adapter sold by apple but it has very negative reviews, and wondered if anyone has any better suggestions for a way that i could connect it?
Just turned my com from sleep and im greeted to a 640 x 480 uber low res display! it's the second 24" ACD ive had as the first had a crack in in the screen. I have tried plugging into a single wall outlet, restarting, shutting down the mbp - still the same 640x 480 - really poor show on this apple product, from my personal experience. What is the definitive solution? Ive had it 2 days - the cracked one worked fine for 4 days and that was running of the exact same plug / socket. Another thread on ASupport discussions - [URL]
I was wondering if the Apple 24" Cinema Display functioned well as a USB Hub. I'd like to hook up an external hard drive, an Apple wired keyboard and an iPhone 4 dock up to an ACD. Will all those work when I connect the ACD up to my MacBook Pro? It'd make it much more convenient to plug in and take out my MacBook.
The title says it all really... Quite a simple problem that I can't find any answer to!
I've hooked up my 30" Apple Cinema Display to the new iMac 27" and the highest resolution I'm getting as an option is 1280x800... The iMac correctly detects the ACD as a Cinema HD display but limits my resolution. Why oh why?!
I own 23 and 30" Cinema Displays. I like the 23 because everything is larger and easier to read than in the 30". I mostly work in Logic and love that I see lots of things on the 30" but the 23" is much easier on my eyes.Is there such a thing as a display with 2560x1600 (like the 30" Apple) but that is LARGER than a 30 inch so I can see everything bigger in Logic??? Maybe a 34 or 37"? Did a search but haven't come up with anything other than other 30" displays.
I've been using my black macbook for several years with both my Apple Cinema Display and Panasonic TV with the Apple mini-dvi to dvi adapter, but today when I tried to hook my macbook up with the tv it didn't work. The Tv just showed a black picture and nothing happend when I un- and replugged the cable. I tried it on my ACD as well and the colors wasn't right on it. Some colors wasn't showing, eg red. Green and blue was OK. I'm suspecting the adapter to be the problem, 'cause I've tried everything (also in preferences) and been using this method for years! Any thoughts on the problem? Should I buy a new adapter or try something else?
Connection methods; TV = mini-dvi to dvi, and dvi to hdmi ACD = mini-dvi to dvi and dvi directly to the ACD
I bought Apple Cinema Display and a MBP Unibody. I was told that the lid of the MBP must be closed from boot-up so that the display will be transferred to ACD. I did this, I found out that after a while, even with no high cpu load or usage... it become very hot and fan goes up.
The heat goes away when I open the lid... I tried putting a cooler fan below the MBP.
I recently purchased a brand new 15" MacBook Pro to replace my old one. I was told when ordering it that I would be able to hook up two external monitors to it using the Matrox DualHead2Go hardware. So, I also bought a 27" Cinema Display (non-Thunderbolt since it wouldn't work with the DH2Go). However, when I contacted Matrox they said their products don't support screens as large as the 27" ACD. how I can hookup a 27" Apple Cinema Display at 2560x1440 and a Acer 22" monitor at 1685x1050 (or, anything less really) to my new MacBook Pro? I've looked around and haven't been able to find a good answer.
my boss just got a Mac 37in cinema display and insists on me trying to find a way to connect it to a vga, Apple has no converters and told me to check this site for some different way of getting it to work on an IBM computer.
I bought a 23" used HD Cinema display the other day along with the ADC-DVI and DVI-Mini Display adapters. I had it hooked up and it was working perfectly for 3 days. Today my wife tried to connect her Macbook accidentally via the USB that is part of the ADC-DVI adapter which didn't work (why is that USB there anyway?). Then when she went to connect the external display back to my Macbook Pro it did not wake up after being connected.
I have tried resetting the PRAM on the MBP and have disconnected and re-connected all connections but nothing will get the display working with the MBP anymore. When I connect and disconnect the mini-display plug into the MBP the MBP flashes the blue screen as it appears to be reacting, but that's it. I can't detect any display when I go into the display system preferences. Does anyone know how I can get the Apple Cinema display working again?
I have a G5 dual (PowerMac7,2) with a Radeon 9600 pro card running an HD cinema display (clear plastic) and want to connect a second smaller 20" Cinema Display with the same type of plug - I think I need a DVI to ADC adapter - is this the case?
