OS X :: Battery Not Recognized By Laptop But Working?
Sep 24, 2010
Strange problem just cropped up, Black Macbook, 10.5.8. The battery doesn't seem to be recognised by the laptop, but I'm typing on it now without the adapter. Before this it was still at 100% health with 50-60 cycles (around). Nothing else seems wrong, and when the adapter is plugged in it has the charging orange light and the laptop recognises it as a power source. Repaired permissions and restarted a couple of times, no change.

About a month ago my Macbook Pro keyboard and trackpad stopped working when the battery was in the laptop. However, when I take the battery out and keep it plugged into an wall outlet, there are no problems. A USB external mouse/keyboard work fine, but its not easy to bring them everywhere I need my laptop. This may not be relevant, but when the mouse and trackpad are not working, the screen still dims when I place my hands over the speakers. I have bought a new battery, hoping that was the problem, but it made no difference. I can't check to see if my software is updated, because my software update is also functioning incorrectly. It takes an average of 5 hours for the software update to search, and it always comes up with "no available updates."

I have just completed rescuing a water damaged MB C2D which was originally a 2.16 and is now a 1.83. Fun project for a cold Sunday afternoon. 5 hrs I have one issue with the MB and that is the charging of the battery. The battery icon sometimes shows 'no battery' or if it shows a battery is recognized, it isn't charging. The LED on the mag-safe charger is always green. The battery is from the water damaged 2.16 and my thinking is that it may have suffered damage from being exposed to water. Original owner left the MB in the backyard and it started to rain!

I was working late and let my battery drain while working. The computer shut down. I immediately plugged it in but the light on the power adapter didn't turn on (either orange or green) I tried other plugging it into other outlets. Nothing. I left it plugged in all night. Nothing. No light on the adapter and the computer isn't working.

I believe the mechanism utilized by my laptop to route power either from the battery or the AC adapter, is faulty. Sometimes when the battery is connected to the laptop, the battery is not recognized and the battery icon has an 'X' in it, other times it shows a charge %. Just recently with a full battery, I removed the AC adapter from the laptop and the laptop immediately powered off as if the battery was not in place.
Assessed:
(equipment age) new linear power cable and new battery purchased in september
(connection) linear connection seems stable
(battery) charges and holds a charge
Possibly linear > battery transistor issue? Repair Options?

I got rained on and my macbook got soaked. I dried out my macbook in an airtight container with some special salt for a few days, and luckily got rid of most of the water issues with my monitor. Unfortunately, my battery or logic board seems to have not been so lucky. My macbook is a one and a half year old 13" unibody, and now won't turn/stay powered on unless it's plugged in. For the first 15 minutes I've plugged in the magsafe charger, the battery is recognized. It says it's charging but stays at 0% (I then get the X over the battery icon). The weird thing is that my previously health battery now has a 0 mAh charge capacity and a 0 cycle count. Is there ANY possible solution to this, or has the damage already been done?

I have a Macbook from the beginning of 2008. Last July. I started to have problems with the battery , it was not recognized. It had an X icon and the power lead was green all the time. I took the computer to an Apple outlet and they told me that the battery was finish and I needed to buy a new battery, I bought a new battery and still the computer didnt recognize the battery, apparently the battery was not good. Apple changed the battery and now, I have a 3 battery. Now the battery is charging but on and off. Last week the battery was working fine for 4 days, but after 4 days the battery was not recognized, x icon again and lead green all the time.
24 hours later started to work fine. Today as I write this, the battery is on and off, two minutes is charging, 5 minutes is not recognized, and so on. I tried to reset the PRAM, System Management, etc but still the same thing, I even deleted ITunes, as the first time I started to have problems it was after downloading a new Itunes update and last week the battery was working fine for 4 days and crashed just after I started to charge my Ipod. Maybe it isn't related at all but I don't know. Could it be the logic board? the thing is I took the computer to Apple for a diagnosis but they told me that they didn't have a clue what it could be.

I am having a Power/Battery problem with a Macbook (surprise surprise!). This Macbook is the first generation, early 2006 model. It is a 2Ghz Intel Core Duo, black. This Macbook will not charge a battery, any of the 4 Macbook batteries I have tried. However, it will recognize each battery I put in (using About this Mac), and it will run on battery power when not connected to AC power. The charger light is always a very faint green light (same for both 65 and 85W chargers). Occasionally it will shine the bright green (normal) for a moment, but quickly dulls to the very faint green light.
Last night I tried swapping out the internal battery connector that I know is right for this macbook. After the installation, when I started it for the first time, the light on the charger appeared orange for the first time. I waited to see if the "charging" lights on the known-good battery would light up, but they never did. Eventually the charger returned to the same faint green color. Has anyone seen this before? From what I can tell the only parts remaining that could be the problem are the internal Magsafe connector and the logic board itself.

And as you see from the images below it says my health is it 75% is that good? I really don't know and that's why I need your help!
(First picture showing what the problem says, Second picture is the message inside Apple's Menu-Bar Widget for the Battery, the Third Picture is the message inside a Menu-Bar App called 'Watts', Fourth is my Macbook's Battery information from the App 'Watts' and lastly the Fifth picture is more Information from the App 'coconutBattery').

I'm having a strange issue with my MBP 1, 1. It's recently picked up a new habit that I find to be rather annoying. When the battery gets down to between 5 and 10%, the laptop will just shut off. No hibernation, no sleep, just a hard shutoff. The battery seems to be in good health; although it does have a high cycle count, I still get around 2 hours of usage out of a charge. I would think that a calibration would solve the problem, but with the hard shutdown, would that even be possible?

I've heard conflicting reports that leaving the laptop plugged lowers the battery life and that it is not true since it stops charging the battery. So is it bad to leave it plugged in all the time?

About a month ago I bought one of the new Macbook Pros, a 15 inch i7 version with highres matte screen. This morning I went to turn on my computer and I thought I had turned it off last night, but it turns out that I hadn't, so when I hit the start button it woke up and then promptly shut off. I haven't been able to get it to turn on since. Absolutely nothing happens when I push the start button, whether I have it plugged into battery power or not.

Ordered from eBay Graphics Card Upgare (Ati Radeon x1900xt / Part# 102A5202752 000006) for my new Mac Pro (early 2008). It came in white box with Apple logos. Attached and powered it but I get only "No Signal" on my monitors (LCD: Eizo FlexScan S2401W and Samsung SyncMaster 225BW). Tried different cables: DVI-D Single-link, DVI-D dual, DVI-I Dual and VGA+Apple DVI-adaptor - no effect.
It seems like the new card isn't recognized properly?

I understand this particular issue has been discussed at length on this forum and in other places but none of the solutions have yielded any success for me and I see this is often the case for others. So, I'm posting the question again in hopes that there is an Apple guru out there who has figured this one out. (All relevant specs below.)Â
Problem: Firewire port was working fine for downloading video from a Panasonic PV-GS320 into iMovie 8.0 on an iMac 10.5.8. Then, suddenly the firewire port was no longer recognized: FireWire Bus: Warning:Unable to list FireWire devices. Maximum Speed: Up to 800 Mb/sec The problem cannot be with the camera or cable as I can swap them over to an iBook 10.4 and the camera and firewire download perfectly there. I have run AHT. Test results show no hardware problems. I've tried all of these

I have a 12' iBook G4 (1.33 ghz) that took a tumble and the power connector snapped off inside of it. I took it apart, popped out the broken bit from the dc-in board, and used it until the battery drained. It worked fine until then.I bought a new power cord, but it failed to charge the battery, and after searching through countless forums, I figured the problem was the dc-in board. I bought a replacement, and just installed it. Now, the battery indicator lights (the four green ones) are showing that it's charging up. It's on three right now. But the computer still won't power on. No fan noise, no other lights. I tried the PMU reset, but nothing. It's weird.

I purchased a new iMac a month ago. Often, the keyboard just stops working and the computer has to be restarted for the keyboard to work again. Another problem: Unless I plug my printer in with a USB, the Mac does not pick it up. The printer is a fairly new HP Officejet J5780.

I have a western digital passport ehd with HFS+ formattnig on my mbp. It was working fine for months. I tried always to properly eject it, but occasionally I would meess up and improperly eject if like the HD fell off my lap and the cord came undone or something. Anyway, I think I really got myself in a pickle now. I was either downloading something and then forcequit which caused it, or restarted finder, or something where now my EHD is not even recognized. when plugged in to the usb it looks like it is recognized on system profiler as "vendor-specific" on disk utility it was recognized once and I didn't take the opportunity to try and repair, but instead tried to save data... bad move - now it doesn't even pick up on disk utility - just shows my internal hd. I tried resetting the PRAM - i don't know exactly what that does but I read I should try that somewhere.

The little white plastic doohickey that opens the battery compartment on my laptop (powerbook g4, I thinks) has broken off and now I can't open the battery compartment.I'm trying to find out if my battery has the appropriate serial number for the recall, but I can't open the battery compartment. Plus, the battery no longer works at all, so I have to use the AC adapter if I want to use the laptop at all--NOT GOOD!Does anyone know if this dumb little piece of plastic can be replaced, and if so how? (I'm sure it costs something like .000000003 cents to manufacture......)
