OS X :: Airport Connection Has Ip Address But Still Won't Connect?

Oct 3, 2010

Recently moved and had a net connection installed yesterday, the guy set it up and it connected fine up until last night when i decided to mess around with OSC control and had to set up my own local network to do it.

Now today I'm trying to connect to the net again back on the default 'automatic' location (i made a seperate location for the OSC to try and avoid this sort of trouble) - and although Airport is picking up the router and is saying it HAS got an IP address, the internet is still not connecting.

I've done a few common sense diagnostic checks, its not Firefox becuase I'm running Little Snitch and thats not showing any movement either..I checked that its automatically configuring using DCHP and supposedly wiped the network settings by deleting the .plist files but its still doing the same thing: reporting that it's connected and has an IP address, but still with no connectivity.

Diagnostics says it 'appears to be connected' but the Network Setup Assistant gets to the last stage of the setup and asks me to check my diagnostics because it can't connect. When seconds later it has an IP and is 'connected'.

OSX 10.5.8
Router is a Netgear VMDG280

OS X :: Airport Connection Not Working / Can't Connect

Jul 20, 2009

My airport doesn't seem to be working. It's completely connected--I even ran through the diagnostics and it said nothing can be done for it--but it won't pull up a Safari page, let me log into AIM, or check my Mail. It works fine when I plug an ethernet into it, and I've tried restarting my computer multiple times, and I reset the DHCP, too, and nothing.

MacBook Pro :: Airport On Brand New 13" - Wireless Connection Losing It's Connection

Jan 26, 2010

I recently purchased (as in days ago) a refurbished 13" Macbook Pro. I just noticed today that my wireless connection on my Macbook Pro has been losing it's connection about every other 2-3 minutes. I was on iChat with a buddy this morning, and I must have been disconnected and then reconnected about 8 times in 20 minutes. I first thought it must have been a problem with iChat. That said, I have sat here looking at my screen for the past ten minutes, and I have seen the Airport wireless indicator disconnect and then reconnect again at least three times in the past ten minutes.

I have AT&T U-Verse Service, and I am forced to use their provided 2WIRE router. That said, I have had no problems with any other device that uses the wireless connection, from my iPhone to my PS3. I work from home and have my HP laptop literally sitting right next to my Macbook, and it has not disconnected once from the same wireless connection, whereas my Macbook has literally disconnected at least 20 times.

OS X :: Airport Connection Keeps Dropping Connection To Computer

Jul 29, 2010

Two computers in the house MacBook and iMac, running on an Airport Extreme network, which includes an Airport Express plugged into the stereo.

A brief power outage the other night (perhaps unrelated), and in the morning, the network was wonky: the iMac was only getting two or three bars, streaming radio to the Express kept flickering on and off. When that happens, rebooting the Airport base station, the router, and the Express usually takes care of it.

Since the reboot, the iMac hasn't been able to keep a connection to the network, and often can't find it. It may start off, but then loses the connection and then times out trying to reconnect. Or the network doesn't even appear in the list. Read that launching Network and running Diagnostic will fix problems and it sometimes does, but never for long.

All this time except for one brief bit where it suffered the same problem the MacBook has had no problem connecting to the network and the Internet.

Have rebooted everything multiple times in various orders, run Disk Utility, and even gone ahead and upgraded the iMac to Snow Leopard (laptop was recently upgraded).

OS X :: Won't Work With Airport Connection / Loses Connection

Dec 8, 2009

Recently my MBP (mid-09) has had issues with airport as it continually loses connection and I have to turn it off and on again in order for it to work again sometimes within seconds of doing so. I would opt for a fresh install but my dvd drive seems to be scratching the dvds and it rendered my Windows XP DVD useless when I tried to install that. So it wouldnt be ideal unless there is a method of doing so without using the dvd drive.

I have just bought a macbook, my internet connection at home is wireless however it requires the IP address of each computer using the wireless network to be entered into my wireless account, just an extra security measure. My new macbook has never been connected to the internet as I can not find the IP address I have tried applications/utlities/network utility and there is just a blank space where it says IP address. I have also tried System prefences/network and there is no IP address there either.

OS X :: Mac OS X 10.5.5 To Address AirPort Glitch

Sep 2, 2008

Development of Apple's upcoming Mac OS X 10.5.5 Update appears to be winding down, with only a couple of new fixes making their way into recent builds, including one aimed at wireless issues.

This past week saw two new pre-release distributions of the 320MB Leopard update fall into developers' hands. The first arrived mid week as Mac OS X 10.5.5 build 9F25, but contained no noticeable changes from the build the preceded it.

More recently, developers were treated to build 9F29. That build tacked on a pair of fixes, one of which tackles an issue between Macs and previously joined AirPort networks, people familiar with the software say. The second fix was related to a graphics framework.

Seemingly at the tail end of its development cycle, Mac OS X 10.5.5 is reportedly hindered by a single known bug that prevents emails from being searched properly in Apple's Mail application.

The fifth maintenance and security update for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard now stands to deliver 125 bug fixes when it's released later this month.[ View this article at AppleInsider.com ]

OS X :: AirPort With Self Assigned IP Address?

Nov 21, 2009

Well the problem started when we got a new Time Capsule (2 TB) and replaced and AEBS. At the moment we have 4 macs using the TC. Three wireless and one connected with ethernet cable. If I close the lid on my Macbook Air and open it after a few minutes, it wont connect to the internet. I get a message saying: "Airport has the self-assigned IP address (and the IP #) and will not be able to connect to the internet" I try to use the network diagnostics, and it looks like the network settings is wrong (amber light) and the internet and server is failed.

I then select the network I want to use, and then it suddenly works again. Also three of the macs are using the TC for back ups. Usually the back up gets delayed, and wont start even if I ask it to back up now. It starts to the volume ready, then it says that the disk isn't available. Is there something I cant do or is the TC faulty? My mum and dad arent too good with macs, so if they cant connect to the internet they usually just reboot and it works. I have reset the TC and created the network again, but its still the same issue.

Intel Mac :: Stopped Recognizing Internet Connection (Ethernet) After Announcing An IP Address

Feb 22, 2012

I had no trouble getting on line until last week when a message came on that

IP address 192.168.0.139

was in use by

04:0c:ce:54:c1:e5

DHCP Server 192.168.0.1

Since that time, no matter if I plug it into one router or the other  (I use a router in my office to share the one ethernet cable that comes down the hall) it claims that the ethernet is working and it knows that it is connected to the Internet, but it cannot access the Internet. IT seems to be stuck in a cycle of navel-gazing, constantly focused on its own ethernet IP address.

All I know how to do is operate the thing; we have no IT person here. A visitor set up our network for us a few years ago. Only the iMac has this problem; my PC laptops go online just fine. But all my work is on the iMac.

OS X :: MacBook Airport Keeps Dropping Connection?

Feb 20, 2008

I have had my MacBook sense Oct. 2006 and not until recently had any problems with the airport. Currently it will connect to any network as per usual and then with out notice just cut out for a few seconds and then come back on.

This isn't a huge pain if Im just browsing the net but if I am trying to hold a conversation using skype, IM, or downloading things it can get very very annoying. It cuts out about every 2 mins. It is not a problem with weak signal because when it is on it is showing full bars.

I have tried it under both my home network and my university network both resulting in the same thing. Is this a hardware issue (crossing fingers it isn't!)? Anybody having similar problems?

OS X :: Unable To Work With AirPort Connection

Feb 26, 2009

I have my mac connected to my wireless network. For the last two weeks, these are the things I have noticed.

- The connection to the router is lost prompting me to enter the security key
- Connection to websites takes 5 to 6 tries even though the mac is connected to the network and I have full signal.

All of these problems are solve by turning the AirPort on and off and it will works correctly.

My question is if the problem is with the mac wifi connection or my network and router. The router is a linksys router WRT160N.

Hardware :: Using Airport - No Internet Connection?

Apr 12, 2010

I read some of the posts about airport connectivity but I could find any that explains my problem.
I am quite new with macs, especially with networking.

I have recently installed Time Capsule hoping that It will let me to access my WiFi, but i couldn't connect it simply because it could not find any network within home area. So few days later I bougth an airport extreme adapter but it didn.t help also.

The thing is that none of my airport devices see any wireless network.

On my PC laptop I can see atleast 5 wireless networks. When I used a USB netgear wifi adapter on my mac it worked. But now i cannot setup a connection using airport.

It doesn't show any errors, it just don't see any network when scanning.

I have tried to restart and reinstall the software and hardware several times

OS X :: Airport Express Drops Connection?

Apr 13, 2010

I have two wifi networks each using identical airport extreme router but different cable companies. The networks are separated by a substantial distance. To my knowledge both are set up identical and using the latest software revision and are accessed by the same MB and MBP.

The problem I am having is that in one location I drop a connection about 2 times a day. The TV signal remains. By turning off Airport Extreme for about 30 seconds and then powering it back up, the connection returns. When I go to reset the router, the indicator light on the AE router is always green.

This cable company claims it is my problem.

The other location (different cable company) has never dropped a signal.

Again, I use the same MBP and MBooks on both networks.

I cannot change the "bad" cable company as there is only one choice in this location.

Hardware :: Getting No IP Address To My Airport Extreme

Mar 27, 2009

About a week ago my internet connection would drop out for hours. After setting messing around with my router and modem and reseting everything it would work for a few hours then stop again. My connection is provided by Charter Cable, through a Linksys BEFCMU10 V4.0 modem, to a Linksys WRT55AG V2.0 router. If I removed the router and wired directly into the G5 from the modem, the internet connection would start working perfectly. If I went back, reset the router and hooked it up again, I would lose connection and it would actually take the modem completely offline, requiring the modem to be reset to get reconnected. So I decided I would spring for an Airport Extreme Base Station, figuring the router was bad.

Well I get home with the new AEBS hook it up, and does the same thing. Apples menus and troubleshooting guides. (The main reason I decided to get the AEBS) Well after going through the setup, it says it is not receiving an IP address.

OS X :: Changing IP Address In Airport On My Laptop?

Aug 15, 2009

I have a MacBookPro running OSX 10.5.8 and I've been connecting wirelessly with my NETGEAR Wireless N Router (WNR2000) for the past week but then all of a sudden I'm not able to connect to the internet anymore. I keep getting this message "you have a self assigned IP Address but may not be able to connect to the internet."

I've done all the basic troubleshooting with resetting the Router to factory setting and also unplugged and restarted my modem and Router and laptop.

I've called my ISP (Time Warner Cable) and they've gone through the same troubleshooting with me. I know my internet works as I've been using Ethernet and it works. The person over at Time Warner and she said that my internet and even Netgear wireless router is giving the right IP address but when i checked my network settings on my computer, the IPv4 address is this: 169.254.52.45.

I've checked on various sites and i found that IP that starts with 169.254.xxx is the default setting for airports. I don't know how to set the right IP on my airport on my laptop? It's annoying because I've tried setting my airport on my laptop USING DHCP with manual address with the correct IP from my ethernet connection but doesn't seem to work. I'm at the end of the ropes before smashing my router and computer to a million pieces.
