MobileMe :: No Longer Receiving Scheduled Automatic Security Updates?
Jul 2, 2012
I am no longer receiving scheduled automatic security updates and unable to find the latest on the Apple site. I understand there are threats out there and am very reluctant to link onto any diagnosis' and cures unless through the Apple site.
I just found out that Apple is no longer providing security updates on Mac OS X 10.5. What can I do to keep my comupter safe? I bought my laptop in Sept. '08 and I am not inclined to fork over a couple of thousand dollars when I have a perfectly functioning laptop.
When I check for software updates only itunes and random other updates show up but not security updates or safari update. When i check installed updates I realized my last security update was 2011-004 and I still have safari 5.0.6.
Having heard the problems with 10.1.3, and tho it's too late, it's not too late for the next updates: How do I uncheck automatic updates from App Store?Â
Is there any way to change the automatic updates in Time Machine from hourly?I am a home user and backing up every hour for me is overkill. Is there any way to change the intervals to say monthly?

A long time ago, while in Mail I set up an auto reply to be sent to senders when I am away from my laptop. Ever since, I have tried to find a way to disable it and CANNOT!Now that I'm receiving product order confirmations from Amazon vendors, my computer (my Mail application) send out an auto message saying the I'm away and will answer them as soon as I can. Well, this feature has caused Amazon to freeze all emails between me and vendors because my auto message has exceeded their limits on email traffic between vender and buyer. How, PLEASE, can I stop, disable, get rid of, this auto message from ever going out again. Friends have told me that this auto message of mine is annoying. I detest it, but I cannot disable it from where I sit.Â
I have a Maverik OS X. The Mac Store replaced my hard drive for me. The day I got it back was the last day I received emails from my primary email account (POP). I can no longer receives emails. However I can send them. I've checked and rechecked settings. I've deleted and reloaded the account. All Unsuccessful.   The strange thing is that my iPad and iPhone have the same setting and I can send/receive from those devises.Â
Is anyone else having problems with the email? I am not receiving any emails, nor can I send anything out. Spent 30 minutes on online chat last night with someone most unhelpful, only to be told that the reason I'm not receiving anything is because my email is being forwarded to another address. I set my preferences to do that several years ago when this mac.com/me.com server began having so many issues, to ensure I was receiving email so I could check from my other address. The only comment I got was well, we no longer support 10.4.1 so there isn't anything we can do to help you. The status update says 33% of their customers are unable to migrate. So I'm pretty sure I'm not alone and that is a pretty large base of customers to no longer provide support to. Is anyone else who has not migrated to iCloud experiencing these email problems? Currently my iDisk works to transfer my larger files, but my email does not.
When Flash Trojan was announced Apple sent 2 software updates. iMac downloaded and installed them via software update. (see attached graphic) Mac Mini did not and only advised that "that there is no new software and that software is up to date".

Everytime I try to enter Gmail using Goggle Chrome, I get this message. Here it is the entire error message:Â Â The server's security certificate is not yet valid! You attempted to reach gmail.com, but the server presented a certificate that is not yet valid. I have auto login on my profile and disable auto on the security page but still need to login every time I log out or shut down.I have also noticed that the general page of the security and privacy in Syste Prefs is different on my wife Macbook air and my pro....
Apple on Wednesday afternoon issued a number of updates, addressing high processor usage and other glitches in its 27-inch iMac, as well as various security updates for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.
27-inch iMac updates
Two updates released Wednesday address issues with the 27-inch big screen iMac, released in October 2009.
"27-inch iMac EFI FW Update 1.0" is recommended for all systems with quad-core Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors. The update resolves an issue that caused high processor utilization when playing audio through the headphone output, and fixes a problem that prevented the display backlight from turning on after powering on the iMac.
The 2.1MB update is available for download from Apple. It requires Mac OS X 10.6.3 or later.
"27-inch iMac SMC Firmware Update 1.0" fixes Target Display Mode compatibility issues on the 27-inch desktop iMac. The 397KB update also requires Mac OS X 10.6.3 or later.
anyone with a 8600F scanner still works after updating to the latest security updates on osx? Mine stopped working after updating. I can still use the scanner in windows but not in osx. this is driving me nuts.
Got a suspicious email wanting security updates on my bank accounts. Didn't use the link in the email & didn't knowingly download anything from the email. Went to another server & accessed my bank account to get an address to forward the email to. Went back to my mail & found that the suspected phishing email had vanished. My bank says I most likely got a virus from the email, thinks my account(s) has been compromised & advised me to scan my computer for malware before trying to go to my account again. My Software update shows I have the latest security, I never got a message advising me of suspicios sites or downloads. So how do I check for a virus or malware???Â
Post updates for some applications other than Aperture it now won't properly export RAW. Get a 'no longer support AWR files message. Do I need to reset something in 'Preferences'? In addition some of the 'view' selections would not respond until a restart, after which the same message occured. Need info as to why RAW will not export (tried to get to the desktop, a burn folder anything with 19 photos unedited).
Writing this on behalf of my dad who is not that technical, he is the one having this problem. First he noticed that mail in his the mail.app was not working. He then tried logging into iCloud on the web but could not. He has one Apple ID which won't allow you to login anywhere, not iCloud, nor even this Apple Support Page. The Apple ID and password are definately correct and have never been changed. We have tried going to [url] to reset the password. After entering the Apple ID and hitting next, then selecting the option to answer security questions, first question, date of birth, comes back and says date of birth does not match records. So went back and selected email authentication. It then says that an email has been sent. The problem here is that he cannot access his email to receive the email notification. Mail is not working because of the problem with the account. Also cannot log into iCloud either to receive the email. I don't really want to create a new Apple ID, as this will cause a lot of hassle.Â

Ever since updating my MacBook Air to Yosemite and my iPhone 6 to iOS 8.0.2 (or maybe 8.1.1), my calendars no longer sync correctly across devices. Prior to the updates, any addition or change I made to the calendar on my iPhone would be added to the calendar on my Mac the next time I synced my phone. Now I have duplicate events on my phone, the calendar on my Mac no longer incorporates changes from the phone and I get a dialog box on the Mac 2-3 times an hour about calendar conflicts. No matter how many times I review the conflicts and choose which events/updates to save, the box keeps coming back. I've never had a persistent issue like this with any previous iOS or Mac OS updates and I can't figure out why it won't stop.
Hi i run a small office with 5 intel macs, 1 PPC mac and 1 PC, we also have an intel g5 imac that we use as a file server / backup machine.
The server is then using time machine to back up to an external drive. This has just stopped working. The drive has plenty of space, Timemachine just spins and says preparing backup - this continues even if you leave it doing this overnight
we were using a back up program called retrospect for scheduled backups of selected folders from all machines which would back up to the imac. retrospect is now not working as we have upgraded to Leopard and it does not work properly with LeopardWhat options are there for scheduled backup software that we could run on the imac
I have seen this new server drive that says that it does scheduled backups over a network - will this work? or can we still use the imac to do this? LaCie Ethernet Disk mini 500GB Gigabit Ethernet & USB 2.0
iDisk no longer appears on finder. Need to back it up before end of the month. Cant seem to do it from the web application where I can still see idisk. I'd like to select all (including the folder structure) and drop it /copy it to a new location locally on a disk I can see on my imac finder for instance. iDisk we application lets me select all, I just cant drop it anywhere. iDisk had gotten turned off in the sidebar and could be turned on using finder > preferences > sidebar and clicking idisk. When the transfer was made finder to finder all the files started coping over.
I installed Lion on one of my MacBooks and am moving to iCloud from Mobile Me. I need to keep using 10.6.8 on my work MacBook for use with Adobe applications that I use daily. Will I stilll be able to access my Mail account on the MacBook that isn't running Lion?

the emails I have not deleted from my mac-book will not be available after I switch to iCloud? Also, I have an iPhone4 and an original iPad. Will these, along with my mac-book, still be compatible? IE synched?
My wife has a MobileMe family account email address - I want to make sure I don't lose her email when I switch to iCloud.  Anything I should know or do before I switch?
In the past, if I didn't move forward when Apple moved forward, all that happened was that I did not have access to new features. This time, with the demise of MobileMe and the introduction of iCloud, if I don't move forward I lose features, but even worse, even if I do move forward, I still lose features. In particular, the lack of syncronization under iCloud of Mail's Rules, Accounts, and Smart Mailboxes means that on our several machines I have to manually do updates multiple times, which of course leads to multiple mistakes. In my view, what Apple has done has the look and feel of customer abuse, something usually attributed to another large tech company. I can't avoid losing functionality, whether or not I move forward with Apple.Â
Mail 4.5 started to get wonky a couple of days ago- taking forever to load. All of the the imap server began rejecting my password which had not changed for months. So I retyped it. Nothing. Quite mail and restarted mail. Nothing. Deleted the account, restarted & reloaded. Nothing. Restarted the machine. Launched Mail, nothing. Check for updates, nothing. Can login directly to iCloud and works fine on my iOS devices but nothing on good ole' mail. Â
