I bought my Macbook Pro in Oct 2009 and am trying to figure out which cables I need to hook it up to my new Sony Bravia TV. It's my understanding that Apple made a Macbook Pro that would allow video and audio to pass through the HDMI cables but I'm not sure if that's the one I have. Do I just need the minidisplay port to HDMI or do I need something else?

I have searched endlessly on the internet on ways to connect my macbook to an rca inlet on a television but find the information to be outdated or all about hdmi. I would like to run a cable(s) from my mini display port to the rca jack on my television. I only have one HD compatible television so I would like to have a more flexible solution for the rest of the aging televisions in my domicile.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have some tv shows downloaded that I'd like to watch on my HDTV. I currently have a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter and a 3.5mm male to male audio cable that I plug into the TV and the headphone jack on my MBP.
1. The audio does not work. Is there a setting somewhere I must enable?
2. Would I be better off buying some other sort of cable?
3. What are my options for displaying my MBP screen on the TV and where do I access these options? When I hook up the adapter it just extends my screen to the TV.
Perhaps I need a MBP to TV guide of some sort. I can get this done easily with my old PC but I"d really like to do it with my MBP.
I have a Macbook Aluminium late 2008 (first gen), and am looking to buy an external monitor. The ones I have my eyes on right now is the Acer 24", which comes with VGA and HDMI.
- Which cable I need to hook my Macbook up to the external monitor? Should I get a miniDisplayPort to VGA adapter or a miniDisplayPort to HDMI adapter? What is the difference?
- Does audio work if I hook it up? ie. will I get sound if I plug my headphones into my new external display (NOT into my macbook)?
- Do I have to run it as dual displays at all times? or can I close the lid of the macbook, but still have the computer running on my external display?
- If I get the new Macbook Pro (when it comes out), do I need a new cable? I heard that it runs using the thunderbolt connection, does that mean I will need to get a new thunderbolt to HDMI or VGA adapter cable?
- And lastly, do I have to buy the apple branded cable adapters? Or will other (cheaper) ones do?
Can I hook up a mac book pro to a monitor that i have?

The only serious (not homemade) solution is the Matrox TripleHead2Go DP Edition, but this solution only gives me a max resolution of 4080x768 (3x 1360x768).
Unfortunately I dont believe that would be enough to satisfy me needs.Â

I am seriously considering purchasing the new Retina Display MBP.My confusion lies with some of the adapters What adapter will I need to:
a) hook a new Retina MacBook Pro to a VGA projector?
b) hook a new Retina MacBookPro to a HDMI TV so that I can move video and sound to the TV directly?
I need to do both for teaching purposes when away from home.I understand I will need a new Ethernet Adapter and a new FireWire Adapter to work with the Thunderbolt connectors.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI got the Aluminum MacBook late 2008 version and as most should know that the macbook comes with a Mini-Display Port. Today i went to buy a Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter because all my monitors at home have the DVI slot. I hooked it up and everything works fine as it should be. But next week i have a presentation to do in University and apparently my uni only have the VGA slot available, so therefore i want to know if it would work by hooking up my macbook with the Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter, then use a DVI-D to VGA adapter and finally a VGA cable to the Projector for the presentation?

So how do you "most" of your work at home?
One reason I like macs is because they are simple and easy. I could not imagine going back to a PC desktop with all the wires and space needed. I use a 27 imac at home and a mbp at when i want to be portable.

I just got a 15" MBP and would like to hook it up to a 24" Dell Ultrasharp I inherited. However, I know nothing about the button settings on the monitor.
When I connect the two, the MBP background shows up on the Dell monitor but the icons that run along the bottom of the MBP screen are cut off. I'm assuming I need to change the monitor settings but don't know what I'm doing.
I want to hook up two dell 24 monitors with my mbp santa rosa 2007 version( dvi not display port), is there any adapter that can split the single dvi port in mbp into two dvi ports ?

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I have 2 USB Ports on my Mac. I use both of them and I am looking to get a Mic for recording youtube stuff. I use one for my wireless mouse, and I use the other for an external hard drive because the amout of space on my Mac is no-where near enough for what I am going to use up.Â
I am just wondering if there is a way I can either:
1. Get more USB ports (if its possible)
2. Hook up my mouse to a Thunderbolt port (again if that is possible)
or 3. Hook up my External Hard-Drive to the thunderbolt port.Â
