OS X :: Snow Leopard Make Mac Run Slower?

Sep 2, 2009

Put snow leopard on my 15" MacBook Pro 2.2ghz core 2 duo, 2ghz ram, 128mb video ram computer (purchased in late 2007 right after Leopard came out). The computer was running great on Leopard, no hitches whatsoever. Put snow leopard on it, expecting to experience performance boosts, cool new features (LOL), and just all in all a more stable computer. Got none of these.

Everything on the computer runs slower than before. Noticeably. Battery life is significantly less than before as well.

Anyone else experience these same issues on their Macbook?

MacBook Pro :: Slower Processor - More Ram?

Dec 12, 2010

I'm in the market for a new MBP and, looking through the models, it's between the: 13" 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo with 8gb of RAM 13" 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo with 4gb of RAM I'll be using it for: Adobe apps (Flash, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, InDesign; often 2 of these at a time), videos (esp. streamed online), word processing, and general web browsing. I often have at least 1 of the mentioned Adobe applications, as well as a streaming video and 5-10 browser tabs open at once. So, which is better for my purposes, the 4gb more RAM but slower processor, or the faster processor with 4gb less RAM?

i have the macbook model no.A1181.

Latley i can not to anything at all i have gone and checked everything that needs to be checked and nothing is wrong, But ever since that virus scare about the macs was on the news my my macbook has been 100 times slower then usual. And on top of that i can not even go in any of my apps all the icon does is bounce and it never pops up and wen i look in my force quit it tells me that the app is not responding it happens with everything on the macbook. And i can't even go on the internet at all the moment i got to search for a website it doesn't even come up and again says not responding. I am both a mac and pc user and have grown up on both mac and pc. So i know how to use a mac but i can't not find out what is wrong and i am really worried because i payed 1500 for this.

MacBook :: It Runs Slower On Safe Mode

Apr 29, 2012

I heard someone talking about this "Safe Mode" and I thought it was an interesting feature in MacBooks and all I have to do was press Shift. I tried that and to my surprise, everything is slower. I tried to swith spaces and the wallpaper renders pixel per pixel on my screen. This never happened before. It's so slow! It has never been this slow before. I was curious if everything was really slower or it's just me so I fired up Geekbench. The results were staggering. 1280 points. A Power Mac G5 is faster than that. Even the Mac mini from 2007 is faster than that! This MacBook SHOULD be 3695! This is really amazing in a bad way. And other than that, I didn't really notice any difference at all from Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

MacBook :: Getting Slower At Running Basic Operations With OS X 10.7.2

My 2008 2.4ghz Intel MacBook is getting slower and slower at running basic operations. I have tried to free up my hard drive as it was very full. I free up 40 GB+ of space, but something is still filling it back up? Here is what my profile looks like:

How do I figure out what all this "other" material is? I thought it was due to a lack of memory after upgrading to Lion, but it has been getting dramatically worse, which doesn't seem like a memory issue to me.

OS X :: Mac Mini's Download Speeds Drastically Slower Than That Of MacBook Pro?

Aug 29, 2010

I download a lot of things and like high speeds, especially when I should be getting them.

The majority of the time my MacBook Pro downloads at about 1.7-1.8mb/s (as I have a 15MB/s internet service) which is terrific! I sit up in my room, a floor higher than the router and download away at great speeds.

But, if I go to download something on the Mini (and this only seems to be happening lately, oddly enough) it barely ever hits 1mb/s, is normally at 400-500kb/s and drops to as low as 90kb/s sometimes!

What can be done about this?

Hardware :: Apple's Latest High - End MacBook Air Slower Than Predecessor

Jun 26, 2009

Taken at face value, the specifications tied to Apple's most recent MacBook Air updates imply the latest pair of ultra-slim notebooks should handily outperform their predecessors, but a new report claims this notion only holds true for the slower of the two models.

Introduced earlier this month at Apple's annual developers conference, the new MacBook Airs come in two models: an entry-level $1,499 model with a 1.86GHz processor and 120GB hard drive, and a high-end version for $1,799 that sports a 2.13GHz Core 2 Duo processor and 128GB solid-state flash drive.

As part of its review of the new models published this week, Macworld compared the notebooks to their predecessors introduced last October: a 1.6GHz model with a 120GB (then priced at $1799) and a 1.86GHz version with 128GB solid-state flash drive (then priced at $2499). The results? Perplexing at best.

While the new low-end 1.86GHz model bested its 1.6GHz predecessor, outperforming it in most tests and recording a Speedmark score of 11 points higher at 156, the same couldn't be said for the new high-end 2.13GHz MacBook Air, which achieve a score of 175 -- a full 4 points lower than the previous-gen 1.86GHz model.

"Whats weird about the new high-end MacBook Air model is that although it cost dramatically less than its immediate predecessor, it was also slower than that model," wrote Macworld's editor, Jason Snell. "The late-2008 1.86GHz MacBook Air was faster than the new top-of-the-line model in 11 of our 18 tests, and as a result, the old systems final Speedmark score was slightly higher."

Snell also reported that he saw several cases in which the new, low-end MacBook Air, with its slower Core 2 Duo chip and hard disk drive, outperform the high-end model and its sold-state flash drive. He notes that this may be the result of hard drives being known to outperform their solid state drives in certain operations, but added that the slower system also beat the faster model in some video compression and 3D rendering tests.

"Were not quite sure why this is happening, though its possible that the Airs thermal-protection systems are aggressively ratcheting down the speed of the faster, hotter processors when theyre asked to perform those tasks, slowing their performance," he wrote.

In light of these results, it's worthwhile to note that several Apple authorized resellers maintain inventory of the previous-generation 1.86GHz MacBook Air, which they're blowing out at $1,649, roughly $150 cheaper than than the new 2.13GHz model they appear to be outperforming. This includes AppleInsider sponsor MacMall, whose own back-to-school promotion offering a free Olympus Stylus 1040 10.0 Megapixel Digital Camera with Mac purchases includes the MacBook Air.
