I have a 2010 MacBook Pro, with the following specs; OSX LionIntel i7 2.8GHz (dual core)8GB RAM256GB SSD HDDIntel HD graphics..The issue that I have been having is a sudden, unexplained increase in boot-up time. Yesterday and for the past two years, my MBP took circa 15 seconds to boot up, but today it has been taking approximately 5 minutes. I have the latest software update. My hard drive space is running low; I only have 4GB of space left, could this be a contributing factor? When I switch on the laptop, it get to the picture of the Apple logo, without the spinning gear below, hangs there for approximately 4 minutes, and then eventually continues to the user log-in screen.

I just updated my MacBook Pro to Lion. After install restart the computer is stuck on the white screen with the apple logo and spinning wheel. I manually restarted it after 1 hour but that didn't solve the issue. What do I do?

I have been having some problems with my MacBook Pro going slower and slower and then eventually grinds to a halt. I'm not sure what is causing it....Is there a log that will show me any memory leaks or at least what was using up the most memory/CPU at the time it freezes? a lot of times it freezes awhile after the screensaver kicks in.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn Leopard I had times where I could boot in almost 15 seconds, some times at 21 seconds if it was running slow and for the most part it was 17 seconds. All these times btw are recorded at time of power button press to desktop screen.
In Snow Leopard the times have almost doubled.... Fast boot in Snow Leopard is around 20-30 seconds for me now and a slow boot (which just happened) took a little over 40 seconds.
Anyone else experiencing this? Besides the boot times SL feels a lot faster in system responsiveness than Leopard.
I just bought my first Mac a few weeks back and the switch has been going good but have had one thing that I can't seem to find any info on...
Is it possible to change the boot order on a Mac like in the BIOS on a PC? The reason I ask is that when I have my external hard drive connected the bootup time is slower.
Could this be that the Mac equivalent of the BIOS is doing a quick scan of the hard drive first, looking for an bootable operating system? Or is that extra time just OS X mounting the hard drive?
my mac won't boot after updating to 10.7.4

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy iMac seems to be a lot more noisier (a low humming noise, maybe the fans), than it was when I purchased it in a couple of months ago. When I first got it, it was the quietness and boot time which I was impressed with more than anything. Now it's noisier and boot times have doubled. I have noticed that the fans for for HD and CPU constantly spin at 1200rpm or more, with no applications open and as soon as I switch on my iMac.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi have 4 gb of ram, and would like to increase the shared video memory in windows 7, that i am using via boot camp. i know you can do it using the bios, but because there is no bios, is there any program that emulates the bios for boot camp, or another solution to do this?
then, why does windows 7 read just 3 gb of ram, when i have 4?
I rarely run Boot Camp but whenever I'm using Boot Camp on my 13" MBP [Summer 2009 model] it really heats up a lot. I generally use IE8 or Google Chrome, & the Zune software. Not much besides that to be honest, occasionally I used MediaMonkey as well.
Anyway, point is for some reason - regardless of programs running - the notebook appears to be getting extremely hot.
I want to increase the fan speed while in Boot Camp so it doesn't run so hot. Any ideas/recommendations as to do doing this?
In OS X [10.6] it works perfectly fine so definitely something related to Windows drivers but increasing the fan speed should remedy, no?
I have a problem. I have installed Leopard on a partition on my MacBook. When install successfully completed, my Macbook restarted but it hangs and does not restart so I had to switch the power off by the power button. I then switched my MacBook back on to complete registration and finally got into Leopard.I then updated using Software Update and then restarted but it will not restart. When I try to restart i get presented with a window telling me that "Updating Boot Cache". I then click "OK" but it hangs on the desktop wallpaper and pointer. I have tried to leave my MacBook for half an hour but it is still hanging on the desktop wallpaper and pointer. Same thing happens with Shutdown
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I want to update my graphics card driver to see if that will help but for one I cant find which drivers to download and the ones I have downloaded don't work just saying that they cant find compatible hardware for the drivers.
I don't know if its anything to do with boot camp or its just me not knowing how to update drivers properly but can someone point me in the right direction?
I'm running Windows XP SP3 32bit, on my iMac. The graphics card is a Nvidia GeForce 9400, no M or GT as far as i can tell. Boot Camp version is 2.0 or 2.1 cant remember.
I tried the nvidia website but it doesn't have that model listed so i don't know which one to download, and the ones i did download, as i say just said they couldn't find compatible hardware.
Since I've update to Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 my imac takes 20-30 mins to boot.

IMac with 10.7.3 and Seagate GoHlex 2TB external drive. Using the disk utility why is was not backing up.The Seagate is now asking the question "Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required". The verify disk permissions and repair disk permissions buttons are not active. My reference "The missing manual" does not cover this challenge.

My Time Machine drive is failing according to Disk Utility. It's trying to fix it but is now stuck on: "Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required." It's been there for hours. How long should I wait before assuming that it's just hung and force quit Disk Utility / re-boot (possibly making the problem worse)? One answer I saw was "as long as it takes" but realistically, I surely can't just leave it running for weeks. There must be a maximum time before I should assume it's not going to work.

i am currently using snow leopard, and I am waiting for this summer to update to mountain lion. Right now, I need the a new feature of imovie for my project, so I am thinking about buying Life 11 at this moment. However, I just want to make sure that, will updating my OS X includes updating my imovie, iphoto and everything? If yes, then I probably dont need to buy Life 11 to update my imovie now/

His is a 2010 15" i7 with 4GB of RAM and a 128GB Apple SSD. Mine is a 2009 15" 2.66GHz C2D with 8GB of RAM and a 320GB 5400rpm HDD. His results when we run JUST the XBench for memory was almost twice what mine was! Same bus speed and everything... Why would this be? Does the processor or SDD/HDD
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm in the market for a new MBP and, looking through the models, it's between the: 13" 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo with 8gb of RAM 13" 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo with 4gb of RAM I'll be using it for: Adobe apps (Flash, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, InDesign; often 2 of these at a time), videos (esp. streamed online), word processing, and general web browsing. I often have at least 1 of the mentioned Adobe applications, as well as a streaming video and 5-10 browser tabs open at once. So, which is better for my purposes, the 4gb more RAM but slower processor, or the faster processor with 4gb less RAM?
View 24 Replies View RelatedAfter reformatting my macbook, it seems to be running considerably slower than the "out of box" condition. For example, before reformatting restarting the system was quick. Now, when i want to restart, i have to wait 30 seconds before it restarts.

My new macbook pro i7 comes with Lion. I noticed it is slower than Snow Leopard (iMac) at my office. When I opened that same file that I worked on iMac which perfectly fine, sometimes crashed or loading very slow on Lion (mostly graphic files like PS or AI) I checked the Disk Utility n it said everything was fine. Or it supposed to b that way?

It seems like my MacBook Pro starts up pretty slow, about 20 to 30 seconds. I don't think this was the case before, I have the HD almost full but it has been like this for a while and just a few weeks back started to do this slow start behavior.

I recently upgraded the RAM and Hard Drive in my Macbook Pro 2012. I know that the first time it boots up it is suppose to boot up slower, but what about the times after. I upgraded the RAM to Corsair 8gb 1333 MHz DDR3 and the Hard Drive to the Seagate Momentus XT 500gb.

I was just wondering... do CPUs get slower over time? For example, if someone's computer is doing a ton of video encoding or compiling, would the CPU get slower?
View 13 Replies View Relatedmy new white macbook runs slower on battery that when it is plugged in. The most noticeable thing is that the applications folder loads slower and is laggy to scroll in.
Unchecking put harddrive to sleep when possible did not fix the problem.
Any ideas or is it supposed to run slower to save battery?
I purchased my laptop near the end of last year and and over the past couple of days it appears to be considerably slower sometimes than what it usually is. I don't know if i have a virus and have CLAM XAV anti virus to scan. I have 3 users but my memory is nowhere near full so....

i used to proudly say to my friends about it. Since few days there is an issue with both of my mac books... i dont know why .. when i operate or open an application or play a movie or do anything on my mac it gets slower. The mouse doesn't move freely. I tried clearing my history, cache and unwanted application and my free memory in my mac s almost around 100gb with 4gb ram. I had quit all unwanted operations through activity moniter but the problem still persists. It is kinda irritating as windows sometimes does. What should I do?

I recently installed Snow Leopard and deleted about GB of my own files I didnt need. But rather than being faster, the MPB seems to be slower, with most programs taking a while to shut down or having to force quit them. There is also a lag in general after clicking on some stuff. Â
I have a new MBA (4GB), which I am very pleased with but I can't figure out why its wifi transfer speeds seem much slower than my Mac Pro. The MBA gets a max of about 250 kb/s while the Mac Pro gets over 1000. I'm wondering whether there's some adjustment that would speed up the MBA.
