MacBook :: White Macbook Versus Snow Leopard?

Aug 21, 2009

I'm sure a lot of guys out there still use the white macbook. I have a mid 2008 white macbook(2.4GHZ), the one right before the introduce the unibody.

I'd like to know if you think the white macbook will benefit from Snow Leopard.

Will i notice and performance boost and can the white macbook run 64 bits applications?

I have no idea if it can and how it will benefit my macbook.

I'm considering whether i should upgrade to Snow Leopard or stick to Leopard.

MacBook :: White 13" 08 Model Not Allowing Me To Install Snow Leopard?

Oct 1, 2010

I bought a used macbook that came with Leopard 10.5.8 I believe on it and I decided to delete the entire hard drive by going into disk utility and wiping it clean and then trying to install snow leopard like that... Unfortunately when I put the snow leopard install dvd in my macbook it is now not allowing me too install it saying "Mac OS X can't be installed on this computer - This disk requires that Mac OS X 10.5 or later already be installed on your computer" Then it gives me the option to restore from back up (which there is no back up as the hard drive was wiped out)

MacBook Air :: Screenflow Rendering - MBA-Black Versus White Mba 2.2

Dec 2, 2008

I ran a file to export which converts to a quicktime .mov file.I expected these times but what's nice is that the fans on the MB kick in at full blast in 1 minute whereas the MBA full fans at 4 minutes full. Far less fan noise on the MBA! Looking at the temps, the MBA ran a full 11 degrees cooler the entire time. Fan noise is very important as I can now record voice from a usb mic without the fan noise being recorded as was the case with the Macbook.

Only downside is that the MBA takes longer (didn't time it) to cool down. Does anyone else have a longer than usual cool down time for the fans to go from full 6500 rpm to the norm 2500rpm?

OS X :: Snow Leopard Versus Windows Seven

Jan 8, 2009

I was one of the ("new converts") XP people who got Macs for the first time because of some very fabulous advertizing and Apple's image as a company with superior products. But after 1 year of using a Mac, I have come to believe that a computer is a computer is a computer.

Latest OS whether it is windows or OSX, would always have learnt something from its predecessors and competitors and in some extent would be better. Some new OS represent a big step forward (windows XP or leopard), others a small step (vista or snow leopard). Microsoft suffered because they took a small step forward with XP when Apple took a big step with leopard and now it is Apple's turn to suffer when Microsoft takes a big step with Seven vs. Apple's small step forward with SL.

I went for a better product switching to Mac at that time when time comes around for my next computer; it won't be a Mac just because I am a Mac user. It will be whichever is a better product at that time in both features and value. Whether it is a PC or a Mac, because a computer is a computer is a computer.

I've recently been experiencing regular White Screen of Death's on my MacPro Eight-core. OS X :: Snow Leopard 32bit Versus 64bit Kernel - How To Boot It / Finding Supported Hardware

Aug 27, 2009

So, with Snow Leopard, there is a 32-bit kernel, and a 64-bit kernel. Correct?

As I understand it, it will boot into the 32-bit kernel by default, but if your hardware is supported, you can select the 64-bit kernel.

My question is - where is the list of supported hardware, and how do you select the 64-bit kernel?

My confusion comes from several posts and various articles which all say the first-gen aluminium iMac has a 32-bit EFI, and therefore can only boot into the 32-bit kernel. But I've just downloaded an app called Startup Mode Selector, which shows you your system config, and it says I have a 64-bit EFI.

IMac (Intel) :: Screen Is White With No Spiral And Apple Logo - Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.8

Dec 11, 2014

Why is my  Snow Leopard OSX 10.6.8 IMac screen all white when I turn it on?  There is no spiral and no Apple logo and the desktop does not appear.  The screen is just white.

Prior to this, we had a wind storm in our area with some power glitches today.  After one of them, the dock items disappeared and just the wallpaper was there. The colored spinner began going around when I clicked on the mouse but nothing was happening.   I unplugged it to try to reset it, but now the screen comes up all white, there's no apple logo that appears at start up and that's it.  Now what should I do?

MacBook :: Cloning A Hard Disk Versus A Complete Reinstall Of Leopard

May 29, 2009

I have a white macbook which I purchased in 2007 ( it is the version that only goes to 2MB of Ram total). In anycase I have a Hard Drive that i want switch into it. The question I have is there any benefit to just reinstalling a fresh copy of Leopard vs using a cloning software (SuperDuper or Carbon Copy)? Here is why I ask:

I cant remember ever defragging the current drive ( if that possibility even exists in Leopard.
I dont remember running any system tool like utility.
I have basically kept computer on ( or on sleep) for the time Ive used it. It is the best computer i have ever had. It is VERY low maintainance.

So with that said....does cloning copy over every characteristic ( an fragmented drive...slowness {of which none really exists}....or the time to launch the OS when it is rebooted)?

With all of this said, I dont use this computer for much storage. I have a couple of MP3s on there which can be ported off of there with a USB flash drive....and a couple of documents. Everything else is pretty much expendable.

I dont know...something tells me that its just better to freshly install the OS.

Hardware :: Dell 2407WFP A04 Versus Dell G2410 Versus Dell 2209WA Versus Samsung F2380

Nov 2, 2009

I'm looking for a new monitor to go with my MBP, and I'm stuck trying to choose between the ones listed above.

The 2407WFP is a couple of years old now I guess, but it's the rev A04 version, which supposedly fixed the (few) problems with what was otherwise meant to be a great screen. It's an sPVA screen.

I've heard good reviews of the G2410, with its LED backlighting. It's still a TN panel and I hear so much bad stuff about them.

The 2209WA is an eIPS panel which I like the sound of, but it's smaller and lower resolution.

The F2380 is a cPVA panel, the image quality looks better but I've heard bad things about blacks on this panel.

OS X :: Installing Snow Leopard On To Leopard Macbook?

Dec 21, 2010

I'm trying to install Mac OS X Snow Leopard on to my macbook but I keep getting this error.

"mac os x installation couldn't be completed" I get this message usually within 5 minutes of installation.

My macbook specs are...
Mac OS X Version 10.5.8, 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM

I've already tried repairing the disks. (I repaired my leopard with the snow leopard CD because I couldn't find the leopard CD.

I heard it was fine to do.) I would have tried to verify and repair the partition but the buttons seemed to be grayed out for some reason.

Here is the error log...

OS X :: Tiger Versus Leopard?

Nov 19, 2008

I'm not a conspiracy theorist by any stretch of the imagination, but I've had a chain of events that leave me wondering what's going on:

First let me tell you my system: Dual G5 1.8GHz 3.5GB RAM.

Last year I could download and watch 1080i HD quicktime videos ( trailers from Apple's site ) without problems, playing at full resolution with no noticable frame dropping.

Then after a quicktime update ( don't remember which ), the performance fell down horribly to just a few frames a second for HD movies ( lower res videos still played fine ).

The next quicktime bumped up the performance back to something reasonable where I could at least "kind of" watch an HD trailer, but still there were sluggish points on most videos.

So last week I finally pony up for Leopard. Now I can watch 1080i trailers again without any problems and not a single frame drop that I notice.

What the heck??? Is this because of Leopard supposedly offloading some of the work to the video card? I think I read that it does that right?

I have actually noticed better performance all around with Leopard but most obvious is the graphics performance ( minimizing windows, dashboard, webpages etc ).

MacBook :: ENORMOUS Macbook Snow Leopard 10.6 Startup Options?

Oct 5, 2009

I have recently installed Snow Leopard on my aluminum Macbook . I dont have a lot of GB available, so I decided to reinstall Leopard and then install Snow Leopard again for more GB. I accidentally inserted the iMac install disk 1 (Not the Macbook install disk), because I have a iMac as a home computer. When I inserted the install disk, it tells me to restart my computer. I click Restart. But, after trying to boot, it comes up with the white screen. This lasts for about 15 seconds. After 15 seconds, my Macbook restarts again! It keeps repeating to restart over and over again. After about 15 restarts, I tried and ejected the disk and restarted my Macbook without the disk and see if it cancels the installation. When I boot it up with no disk, it cant read my HD anymore!
