MacBook :: Updating RAM To Maximum Allowed By Machine

Aug 14, 2009

I'm hoping to update my RAM to the maximum allowed by my machine and would like to know how to find out what the upper limit on my machine is. I'm currently using a Blackbook and have listed the System Details below.

Code:
Model Name: MacBook
Model Identifier: MacBook3,1
Processor Name:Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed:2.2 GHz
Number Of Processors:1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 1 GB
Bus Speed:800 MHz
SMC Version (system):1.24f2
Sudden Motion Sensor:
State: Enabled

Does anyone know what the upper limit of the machine I have is - or how to find it (is it 4GB or 6GB, not 100% sure. I think its 4GB), the best place to purchase the RAM and most importantly, what to look at when purchasing it. I know so far it's DDR2 667MHz.

Applications :: Time Machine Error - 43/since Updating To 10.5.5

Jan 14, 2009

I have updated 2 iMacs and 1 Macbook to 10.5.5 recently and all three of them have started giving this Time Machine error occasionally (every few days). The Macbook and 1 iMac are backing up to an AEBS disk, but the other iMac has a direct attached USB disk (both are WD MyBooks). I have never had a Time Machine error on any of these machines before. The most recent error from the iMac with the attached drives is:

1/13/09 11:20:37 AM /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd792 Error: (-43) SrcErr:NO Copying /Users/dwhitti/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/#SharedObjects/2MDSQCJD/a.ooyala.com to /Volumes/Danny's TimeMachine/Backups.backupdb/dwhittingtonmac/2009-01-13-112032.inProgress/ACD16566-3746-4929-B9C9-0AE4DB0CCBE7/Macintosh HD/Users/dwhitti/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/#SharedObjects/2MDSQCJD

MacBook Pro :: Cannot Boot Up After Battery Allowed To Drain?

Mar 13, 2012

I’m hoping someone can help me troubleshoot some strange behaviour of my Macbook Pro4.1. It’s an early 2008 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo. I’ve had this running perfectly for the past 2 months with an Apple 65W Magsafe Adaptor, although I recently got an 85w version so I’ve started using that for a bit. I recently read somewhere that it’s good to allow the battery run completely flat once a month or so, so I unplugged the adaptor last week and ran it off the battery for the afternoon. When it was almost done (10% charge left) I went for a shower and came back to find the Macbook powered down. I plugged in the Adaptor back in but I couldn’t get it to start.

I have to say at this point, that my 85w adaptor sometimes needs a wiggle at the magsafe end to get it to work. Despite this though I couldnât get the green power LED to light or the Macbook to boot up. I then tried my 65W adaptor, which is perfect, and although the LED lights up (first green and then amber) the macbook just doesnt power up with it. I tried the 85w one again the following day after leaving the macbook disconnected and battery removed overnight, and was pleased to find that it finally booted.  Amazingly, despite having no power at all for the whole night it came back with all my applications running, safari tabs and the documents open! Anyway, I noticed from the menu bar that the battery was not charging and I couldnt seem to get it to charge. I ran it all day and the system profile showed that the Battery was about half full and had a ˜normal condition with about 187 charge cycles. However I cant run the Macbook off the battery. When the power cuts out from the 85w adaptor the whole macbook shuts down. The battery isn’t doing anything, even after charging all day and being half charged. What’s more neither of my 65w adaptors can start the macbook no matter how many times I try them. Only my 85w one can boot it, but it’s defective so very rarely seems to work. The 65W ones worked perfectly before,so I don’t know what’s changed.

I read the Apple guide to resetting the SMC and have now followed the procedure several times, but it hasn’t helped. I cannot boot the Mac any more. Does this Macbook come with an 85w adaptor or 65w? I’m confused because the 65w ones always worked until now. Also, the battery itself is only 60w. I’m going to purchase another 85w Adaptor, in the meantime any advice would be very welcome.

MacBook Pro :: Change To Maximum RAM?

May 29, 2012

I have a Macbook Pro Mid-2009 2.26GHz (10.7.4), and have 4GB RAM (2x2 cards), and at the time I changed it, not long after getting it, I am 99% sure it was only possible to get 4GB, but now Crucial is saying it is possible to get 8GB. I would have just got the max RAM possible, so was wondering if something has changed, (an update or something?) that has made it able to put more RAM in. Or, am I just mistaken completely and it was always 8 and I just missed it!

MacBook Pro :: Can't Get Maximum Resolution On AOC I2353

May 2, 2012

I just got a new AOC i2353 monitor hoping to pair it with my 13' macbook pro(2010 model) via display port to HDMI adapter and HDMI cable directly to the monitor. Howerver, i can't get it to display at maximum resolution it offer(max is 1080i).I can't run any of the drivers and installation softwares came with the it and my macbook pro won't detect the monitor. When i set it to 1080i mode, I see horizontal and vertical disturbances or waving. Also, picture become blurred. However, if i switch it to 1080p, picture become much shaper and no waving. Is there anyway to hard set the native resolution of the display since my macbook pro( Max OS x 10.6.8, 2.4 GHZ core 2 duo and Nvidia GeForce 320M) won't auto dectect my new montior.

MacBook Pro :: Vpn Maximum Log File Size?

May 28, 2012

I'm trying to figure out how to change the maximum log file setting for my Cisco VPN.  I think on a Windows machine you are able to do this:

[Instructions for Windows: right-click "Computer" on your desktop, and select "Manage". Expand "Event Viewer" and then "Applications and Services Logs". Right-click on "Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client) and select "Properties. There will be a "Maximum log size" and a "When maximum event log size is reached" option.]

I can't seem to figure out how to do this on my Macbook Pro.  I'm running 10.7.4

Have tried viewing in Console and while i can see the ppp file - there's no way to see maximum file size settings.

MacBook Air :: Maximum Screen To Body Angle

Jul 1, 2008

I am thinking of getting the mba (or rather the mba 2 hopefully because I wouldn't want any nast core shutdowns and from what I ve been reading apple's awful customer support) and I d like to know one specification that I can't seem to find online. I read somewhere of the "by design" limit of the maximum angle to which the screen can go back wrt the mba's body. I was looking at it in a store and it is rather limited, and as I a used to holding my lappie in a way that requires a somewhat large opening it would great if I could find out exactly what the degrees are. (I usually like to sit on a sofa with legs arched in an upside down V shape and laptop on my lap which requires that the screen be moved further back to get the right constrast - I am sure a lot of people must find this way very comfy).

MacBook :: Finding Maximum CPU Temp - How Many Fans Necessary

Jul 24, 2009

I have a fan utility that lists 2 fans. The "Left" fan is at 6204 rpm's, temp 81.4C The "Right" fan shows 0rpm's, temp -1C. Is this merely because the sensor is capable of recording two fan speeds or do I really have one malfunctioning fan? (which would explain the high cpu temp, if it applies).

A third sensor, a widget, records the same temp, with Heatsink A 70C and Heatsink B 64C. I realize all three sensors are getting their readings from the same spot; which one do I rely on?

MacBook Pro :: Maximum Battery Capacity Decreasing

Jul 23, 2010

It's only been a month&half with my MBP 13". Coconut battery claims my MBP is 3 months old now (obviously manufactured 2 months prior to my purchase). Currently I have 8 cycles. 2 calibrations (one on first day, and one yesterday). It went from 98%-97%. Obviously this isn't a big jump, and I know i'm just being paranoid. I don't understand how people on the forum says after calibration your maximum battery capacity should go up, and it refreshes the system or something. It nearly dropped by a 100... What the hell? How do I make it go up? It's only a month old !! Shouldn't it be at 100% or atleast 99%? Some people on this forum claim that they have over 100%+ after MONTHS of usage...
