Applications :: Time Machine Error - 43/since Updating To 10.5.5
Jan 14, 2009
I have updated 2 iMacs and 1 Macbook to 10.5.5 recently and all three of them have started giving this Time Machine error occasionally (every few days). The Macbook and 1 iMac are backing up to an AEBS disk, but the other iMac has a direct attached USB disk (both are WD MyBooks). I have never had a Time Machine error on any of these machines before. The most recent error from the iMac with the attached drives is:
1/13/09 11:20:37 AM /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd792 Error: (-43) SrcErr:NO Copying /Users/dwhitti/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/#SharedObjects/2MDSQCJD/a.ooyala.com to /Volumes/Danny's TimeMachine/Backups.backupdb/dwhittingtonmac/2009-01-13-112032.inProgress/ACD16566-3746-4929-B9C9-0AE4DB0CCBE7/Macintosh HD/Users/dwhitti/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/#SharedObjects/2MDSQCJD
I was trying to set up my Time Machine to an external hard drive. I didn't continue because it asked to "initialize" the hard drive which I had a lot of important things on.
I have another external hard drive I'd like to use but, my Time Machine has this error code of -43. What is this and how can I use my Time Machine on another external hard drive?
I am a new mac user (total convert--am on my second iMac in a month and am about to buy a macbook), and am having trouble with my itunes service. My first 24" iMac developed a clicking HDD, so I was lucky enough to be able to bring it back to the shop for a replacement iMac. I made a time machine backup of the first Mac and copied directly to the second one (which was flawless....how come I haven't been using macs prior to now? I've lost dozens of backups on PC). The only issue I've had is with iTunes--I keep getting an error that the iTunes library is newer than the version of iTunes on the computer. Is there anyway to fix this without losing my entire library of songs? I did make up a physical copy of the iTunes folder on my first Mac, just in case, so I assume that I could delete iTunes and reinstall a fresh copy, update it, and then copy the iTunes folder over to the new version. But this is a Windows approach to the issue and there is probably a simpler way of fixing this. Alternately, I could do the same but sync my iPod and copy everything to my library that way.
can't open the program time machine located in the folder /applications/time machine anymore, message says program ain't working for unknown reaason, but I still can open time machine in the menu bar. any clues what the trouble might be? and/or is there any way to reinstall time machine only on os x 10.7.3?
btw., on the system backup hd which is a mirror of the imac system, the programm still works
I plugged in my external HD last night and was told I'd have to format. I moved all my data over to a larger disk during the night so as to clear it for this. I woke up this morning, did a spotlight search for Time Machine and got "An unexpected error occurred (Error Code -43). I then, in my half asleep state, thought that I'd just uninstall TM. I have this app called AppDelete, which did the trick. Now I realise that TM is in system prefs and appears to be working.
Firstly, has anyone else gotten this error, and secondly, is there any way to get back whatever it was I deleted earlier? Maybe by using the install disk. I looked at it earlier and didn't see any options.
I noticed that the TM "app" in the Applications folder was only a few hundred kbs so I may not have done much damage. Doesn't anyone know what that part is? Is it just a frontend or what?
Trying to find a solution to Time Machine error 64.When initially selecting the backup volume and logging on, everything works OK, and the backup runs as expected. The next automated backup states that it can not find the volume and registers an error 64 in the log.Manually selecting the backup volume again and logging on, runs the backup as expected until next automated backup.Have tried to rebuild permissions, no errors Have tried to delete all keychain objects for Time Machine and Wi-Fi Have updated firmware on Time Capsule to 7.6.1 Have tried reboot on the Lion 10.7.3 iMac Have tried another user account, same error?
after quiet some time tried again to backup my system to an external firewire HD but unfortunately after 16 hours I realized that the process was stuck at half time backing up my 250GB of data. In fact my computer was not not responding at all so I puled the plug.
The time machine error log showed me this: Time Machine errors from the current System log: May 14 01:34:30 lilifees-imac com.apple.backupd[379]: Error writing to backup log. NSFileHandleOperationException:*** -[NSConcreteFileHandle writeData:]: Input/output error May 14 01:40:26 lilifees-imac com.apple.backupd[379]: Error writing to backup log.
my Time Machine wireless backup was working flawlessly for months from my Seagate GoFlex Home wireless hard drive, backing up my iMac and my MacBook. Now suddenly I'm getting the following message - but only on my MacBook: "Time Machine Error: The backup disk image “/Volumes/GoFlex Home Backup/Rolf's Macbook (2).sparsebundle” could not be created (error 13)."
I am running OS X 10.7.3 on a MacBook Pro. I have switched from using Time Machine (TM) for backups to another product. I have turned off TM but am still getting the error message "
I use a LACIE external hard drive to back up via Time Machine. I am having problems backing up, the backup starts and goes through 'prepare items' and then starts to back up, then stops about a quarter of the way through to 'clean up' and then 'fails' I used the Time Machine Buddy and the error message is : Error (-36) NO Copying/Applications/Utilities/Java
I finally upgraded to Snow Leopard. I have some older software and everything was working fine, so I delayed. I have an Intel 2 x 2.66 Dual Core. Now, I keep getting an error whenever I try to run Time Machine. So far, this is what I have done: Used disk Utility, Disk Warrior, then disk utility again (erased back up drive), then downloaded and reinstalled using the 10.6.8 combo update. Disk Utility again. Tried to backup and got the same error: The backup was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the backup disk.
After reading online I downloaded and installed backup buddy (I think) Anyway, this is the error that it gives: Starting standard backup?Backing up to: /Volumes/Backup/Backups.backupdb?Backup content size: 91.4 GB excluded items size: 65.6 MB for volume Knight/Freelance?No pre-backup thinning needed: 109.60 GB requested (including padding), 364.91 GB available

I have a Seagate Goflex Home network drive. I have been using Time Machine on MacBook Pro with this drive to the Backup Volume (there's also a "Public" and "Personal" volume on this drive.I did something I shouldn't have done. I deleted the Time Machine back up folder from the Backup volume. I read in various places on the web that I shouldn't do this. But did I listen? Noooooooo. Now, when I go to Time Machine preferences and select a drive, it asks me to log into the drive (but I am already logged in). I do so and click to connect and I get an error message: Time Machine can't acces the backup disk "GoFlex Home Backup".The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error 2.)So, I've read that if I delete the Time Machine info from this disk that I may need to reformat the drive to use it with Time Machine again.I have lots of other data (in the other volumes) on this drive.
Just logged into my iMac and got the following error. Bit worried, what happens now? Have I lost all my TM history form the start of TM backing up? Is my TC on the way out?
Does anyone know what this means? I have just bought a Seagate Expansion 1TB and formatted it for a mac. However, when I try to back up time machine, this box pops up error code -43.
I installed a new hard drive on my iMac and got it up and running. I'm trying to restore my computer from the time machine and it says 168 hrs to complete. I've tried it twice and it gets about 7% done until I get an error that says I must restart and try again.
I am using a Lacie LittleDisk Firewire 320GB as my Time Machine back up disk.Using Time Machine worked fine until a few months ago - there was an unnammed error; it simply says that it was unable to complete the backup and that I should try again later as it may be temporary, or, if the problem persists, repair the disk in Disk Utility.Well, the problem has persisted, and when I try to repair the disk in Disk Utility it hits an error in that too - it says it's unable to unmount the disk and so can't continue.
I keep receiving the error message Unknown error - error code -43 every time I try to open my time machine and it won't back up... I can't update to Lion.
Running the latest Lion software 10.7.4 ..Time machine is looping " preparing backup' ...using Time Capsule 500 gb storage...2 MBP back up to this system..one Snow Leopard and the one Lion.
Time machine is showing 30 MB available... problem appears to be that the old backups are not being deleted no storage is available and it fails to create any additional new backups.. Problem occured in March and I needed to erase the entire backup disk and start over to clear the issue.. It went successfully..now the same prob 3 months later.
My backup is about 181 gb the other is about 100 gb.. why this may be occurring? Obviously the root cause issue was not resolved by deleting the entire disk..
My files were backing up for about a day, had 75gb of 100gb done and then my power went out. It cancelled out, and then when it came back on I tried to resume it. It started to backup 25gb, which I'm assuming is just the last 25gb that it had to do. Anyway, it did that for a while then stopped, and now when I try to backup, it says: "Time Machine Error: The backup disk image could not be mounted."
How do I backup the rest of my stuff? Do I have to start over? And is there a way to make it transfer faster? I mean, there's no way to directly connect it to your computer, is there? Also, in the Time Machine settings thing, it says "Available: 839.8GB of 929.5GB. Does that mean it has 839gb of my 929gb backed up? What happened to the other 71gb? I just want my stuff to be backed up, why is this so complicated?
My Time Machine now failing to backup. The machine can see the external drive (tells me that 1.8T of 2TB available) but every time over past 14 days has failed to function and pops up error window.
Info: MacBook Air (11-inch Late 2010), Mac OS X (10.7.3), Time
I've been without use of Time Machine for sometime (months) now. I've been getting the following error:
My backup drive (Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex - 320GB) was a attached to my Airport Extreme, but in desperation I moved it to being directly attached to my MBP. I've also excluded large number of files from the back up (reduced the full backup size to half the size of the backup disk). Also, I've erased and reformatted the back up disk - twice. No errors on it either.
What would be really helpful, was if there was some indication as to WHAT the problem actually is. This is a rather ambiguous error message, which does little to help a person to troubleshooot. It seems like the backup is being hung up on a file or files...but I'm just guessing.
Has anybody out there run into this? If so, what was your solution?
After updating to Lion server, I moved my Drobo over and setup Time Machine
Many users are prompeted to reuse or create a new backup.
The problem is I log in with credentials of 'USER A', and on the dialog it lists another 'USER B', userb.sparsebundle as the file to reuse.
I recently had a iMac hard drive die, and i tired to use the time machine on the server, with 'USER A' credentials, i got 4 listings and none of them were 'USER A'
I check the drobo and 'USER A''s sparsebundle is there. I have tried changeing permissions to read the sparsebudle, but the bundle is a 250k file, not a diskimage of the files even.
How do i resolve this problem of the wrong users coming up on "reuse or create new backup"?
How do i access the lost sparsebundle that i cannot log into to get the files for the user that needs them?
When I try to archive my files with Time Machine I get an error message "error disk not available".The external disk is a 1 TB Iomega EGO Portable Hard Drive Mac Edition connected with 2 USB connection to my Mac Book Air with MacOS 10.7.4.I have format the disk in MacOS extended. I have tried to copy file from my internal disk to the external disk & it works correctly.
Purchased machine in Dec. 07. All well till Nov. 08. Since then have noticed that it will go into standby then wake up. This happens regularly, sometimes after 1 hour, or 2 hours or a few minutes. Have tried to put it in 'sleep' mode but wakes up just the same. All day and all night. So tried "shut down' and it does it as well. Like a ghost is working it.
Have been in constant touch with APPLE CARE, and they made me get another user (test) and it did not seem to wake up in that user. Went back to my user and problem started again. Spoke with 2 product specialists and one said that it cannot be EYETV, as he had it on his Mac and it was fine. Second specialist said it is EYETV and I should contact Elgato. I did this and was sent a link to 'repair'. Followed the instructions and that did not help. 4 days later, my computer suddenly remained in stand by all day.
I was surprised and relieved. Than it started all over again. I am at my wits end. I can only make it stay shut down if I go to 'shut down' and wait for the screen to go black then turn it off at the power point. I am sure that I should not be doing this, but what else can I do? I will contact APPLE CARE again, but will wait for your reply first. Also, I get a little message saying...Time Machine Error. Unable to complete backup. An error occured while copying files to backup volume.
Time Machine will not back up, with following error message.
