I backed up all my files, took out my leopard retail box, and was ready to go when I opened up the box, and noticed no disc. I have no idea where it went.I have the install discs from the computer when i got it, but it only has 10.4, so id rather not use them. I have the install discs from my macbook pro with 10.5, but I am pretty sure it will not work.So does anyone have any suggestions? Should I just go ahead and install 10.4 until and then just install 10.5 when i find it? (i really hate doing this, I hate having more than one version of an os installed)
View 2 Replies View RelatedI opened up Photo Booth to record a video for YouTube today and realized that I had recorded my self for 7 minutes for almost no reason.
Photo Booth doesn't seem to be detecting my microphone at all, because when I play the clip i recorded, there is no sound. My speakers are on, trust me.
Also, other audio recording applications, such as Screenflow and Audacity are able to pick up the microphone easily.
I've ran the application with nothing else running and get the same result.
I recently moved my music to a portable hard drive. Now, my Macbook Pro does not recognize CD's or Dvd's. Does not show up on the Finder, the desk top. However, it does operate software discs and reads them.

I went to system settings and made sure that the built-in mic was selected and tested it by checking the input levels. It was clearly picking up my voice. What do I need to do to get video to pick up sound in the room?

I have been importing my large music CD collection and midway through, I have noticed that the first track of EVERY disc has NOT been copied to my library. The remaining tracks (Track 2 and up) were imported fine. When each CD was importing, everything looked normal and I got a green checkmark next to the first track. What's even more bizarre is that now, I cannot recreate this problem because iTunes imports the first track of every CD as normal. What the heck?! I'm going to have to re-import the first track of every disc now... Did a Google search and got nothing. I'm running the latest, up-to-date iTunes (v9.2) and Mac OS X (v10.6.4).
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo recently I purchased a new hd for my macbook (250gb). My cd-rom drive has an error on it and will not install mac os x all the way. I have been told to use a firewire and use another mac to install onto my computer. So I am using my room-mates MacBook Pro and his firewire to do this. So I plug both computers into eachother via firewire and I boot up my macbook in target mode. The target mode sign appears on my computer and my new hard drives icon appears on my room-mates desktop. I already formated my new hard drive. I am absolutely clueless on where to go from here. I tried just popping the os x tiger disc into my room-mates macbook pro but instead of installing it onto my macbook it tries to install it onto my roomates macbook pro. How do I go about installing os x onto my macbook?

It seems that with this technology and with Snow Leopard coming out that this should be a no brainer. However, the recent refresh has shown little signs of picking this up. The Mac Pro has had multi gpu options for a while so nothing new there, but the iMac didn't get anything in the way of multi GPUs. So with the Mac Pro and the MBPro having multi GPUs, it may just be that their saving it for their pro line.
Since Snow Leopard is supposed to bring about OpenCL which will use the GPU, why have we heard nothing about SLI or Crossfire? These would greatly benefit the system. It seems to me that Apple could benefit greatly from using this technology, not just for the OS, but for a better hardware position.
I guess I'm hoping to hear from anyone here who bought a refurb MBP for very cheap, where they bought the laptop from.
One of my friends in the USA is up for a new laptop. I've convinced him that Macbook Pro would be worth it if he can get one for his budget (~$900).He is willing to wait until the i5 MBP's release (even if it means a few months wait) if it means that he can pick up a refurb or new C2D 13" MBP for $900 or less (his max budget).
Doesn't mind if it's refurbished as long as it looks new, is a unibody design and is covered by warranty. He is only interested in the Pro's though. So where should I tell him to look for a price like that on the laptop?
Apple Refurb Store?
One of the Non-Apple Refurb stores that are often advertized on this site?
Amazon/Best Buy?
Craigslist/Ebay?
Is it just wishful thinking to try to get a C2D at that price even right when the i5's come out and makes all the C2D's seem outdated. Also, is there only a narrow window of opportunity after the i5's come out that he will be able to get one at that price after which they will all go out of stock, or will he be able to pick one up for cheap without rushing?
I recently bought a macbook pro and need to run some windows programs for work. Is it possible to start my mac and have it go the screen where I can pick either mac or windows for it to start in? I know I can default to one or the other and I know I can hit the option key when starting and get it to the choice screen - I was just hoping I could start the mac and have it go to the choice screen and then I have the option of choosing which op sys I need.

I've tried system prefrences>sound>line in and turning it all the way up and I've tried Utilities>Audio MIDI>Line In and turning that all the way up. I have a 2009 13" Aluminum MBP. Recently I installed a Seagate Momentus 7200RPM 500GB drive in it and used CarbonCopyCloner to move the data from my previous drive to this one. I then made an 85 GB BootCamp Partition, but removed it. According to disk utility I now have a whole partition dedicated to OS X that has 312GB of free space remaining, but according to Finder, i only have 230GB remaining. To try and rectify this and because I could not get BootCamp Assistant to format my drive, i tried repairing disk permissions, which worked, but then I tried Verifying Disk and I got this error message- Uploaded with ImageShack.us The thing is, i would love to do this, but I lost my install disks. My question is, instead of calling Apple for new restore disks, Can I just go pick up a fresh copy of 10.6? Or is there an alternative to use? Or should I just screw BootCamp and go with VMWare Fusion. I just need Windows to play COD4 and BF:BC2.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSometimes, when i click on a window's title bar, I accidentally pick it up and drag it away without any mouse button pressed. The window moves with the mouse until I click again and then OSX puts it down in a new location.
The weird thing is that I don't do anything different to when normally just clicking on a window. It just seems to happen every now and again. I've tried to deliberately reproduce this behaviour and I can't.
OSXmust think I've requested that I want to move the window, but I can't find any settings that would make this happen.
So Two Questions:
1. What would you do to make a window move without keeping a mouse button pressed whilst moving the mouse?
2. Why does OSX think I want to do this when all I do is click on a window to move the focus to it

I bought the RocketFish Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Combo. Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong? I followed all of the directions on the box and in the instructions. My computer won't let me choose any set up options until it will pick up on the mouse.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen ripping CD's with my new iMac 20", occasionally a CD will start to initialize then it will disappear from the desktop. I can eject the CD using Disk Utility or even using the hard-button on the Mac keyboard but other than that it is as though the CD is not there. Then, when I put the CD back in again all is well and it comes right up. I have never had this problem with the same CD twice in a row.
Also the drive seems really picky - iTunes will hang when trying to rip a CD that is at all "well used" (OK I don't take care of my CD's as well as I should but they work fine in my Windows machines).
