Hardware :: Airport Keeps Dropping Signal / Doesn't Pick Up Netgear Router

Sep 19, 2009

I have finally retired my 13 inch macbook i've had for over 3 years. I bought one of the unibody 13" macbook pros and did a clean snow leopard installation, then upgraded to 10.6.1. Since then my mac experience has gone from bright sunny days to death and doom.

My airport is the major issue, it keeps dropping signal and doesn't pick up my netgear router. it works for 5-10 minutes then just looses it by itself. i try and see if there is an update or something for it but it crashes the airport and i have to switch the airport off and then on again. This is along with all my favorite snow leopard/13" mbp issues which include but not limited to the laptop freezes, hangups, and just failing to come out of sleep mode!!! most of these issues requires me to force restart the machine. I'm now back to my old laptop seeing that I'm struggling to connect wirelessly.

This might seem an odd question but I had to replace my last Airport Extreme base station as it was faulty....I've now got the newer "Dual Band Extreme Base Station". I want to avoid any conflicts with my old settings for my wireless network with my MBP. Should I uninstall the last version of Airport Utility? Is there anything else anyone would recommend before i install or connect the new hardware/software?

Jun 15, 2012

The latest upgrade of AIrport Utility doesn't support my Airport extreme, but the old version 5.6.1 says it doesn't work in Lion. How was I managing my Airport before th 6 update? What do I do now? Will I have to get a new Airport?

I have DSL service. I have an iPod Touch and an iPad 1 that I'm trying to connect. I just upgraded both iDevices to iOS5. I've been having trouble keeping an internet connection live for them, but now I can't even get the wi-fi to connect.

Hardware :: Samsung SCX-4500 Scan Over Airport Extreme?

Nov 15, 2007

I just bought a 24" Alu Mac, a Samsung SCX 4500 scanner/printer, and and Airport Extreme Basesation. (This is my first Mac ever.) Currently the printer is connected directly to my iMac via a USB cable. I had no trouble getting the print functionality to work, and only minor trouble getting the scanning to work. Now I want to break the working set up I have. Smart, huh?

I would like to plug the Samsung SCX 4500 into my Airport Extreme base station. My understanding is that once I do that, the print function will still work, but the scanning functions will not. Below are excerpts from a chat I had online with an "Apple Expert" before I bought the SCX 4500. The expert with which I was speaking explained there is no supported way to enable the scan function through the Airport Extreme but there was an unsupported way.

Unfortunately he could not tell me the unsupported way, but suggested that I search on "CUPS, Scan, Airport Extreme". See below if you are interested in the exact conversation.

I have done some searching but have yet to find anything that I could really understand, keep in mind I am new to Mac. Has anyone successfully hooked their Samsung SCX 4500 (or some other all-in-one) to the USB port in their AirPort Extreme and got both the scanning and printing to work?

Hardware :: Can Print But Can't Scan Wirelessly With Airport Extreme

May 4, 2010

I've got a dual-ethernet Airport Extreme base station. I've connected my AIO HP c309a to it by every possible means; ethernet, wireless and USB.

No matter what I do, I can NOT scan from my computer or to my computer, wirelessly.

I used to get an error to the effect of, "failed to create a session" when trying to scan. Now, I'm unable to locate the scanner in Preview at all!

It prints just fine. I've installed the latest Snow Leopard printer drivers, and they're working fine and are the correct drivers. Airport Extreme's firmware is up to date.

Hardware :: 2nd Airport Extreme Not Seen In Airport Utility?

Apr 21, 2009

I bought the new airport extreme to extend the wifi range in my household and hoped to share a hdd. Upon my experience and reading the forums, the sharing hdd is not as easy as I thought. But that is not my issue at the moment.

My issue is with extending the network. A couple weeks of ago, I did the setup to connect the two airport extremes together (older round AE & new box AE) using aiport utility. It seemed to have work because the signal was stronger in a part of the house that usually had 0 to 1 bar.

But shortly after, the signal showed itself as inconsistent. The signal strenght is jumpy from 0 to full bars. And right now, I am sitting in a part of the house that used to have 0 bars and now, I get full bars. And yet my mbp cannot see the newer, closer in distance AE.

PowerPC :: Connecting AirPort To Router With G3

Jan 25, 2010

I've got an iBook G3 with the B AirPort card installed that has worked fine until trying to connect it to the Linksys WRT610N. No matter what settings I use, AirPort cannot connect to the router. I've updated the router's firmware to the latest version, and am only using WPA, as WPA2 is not supported by the card. I've switch between TKIP and AES, which hasn't helped either. Also, I've changed the router between everymode (Mixed, Mixed B+G only, B only), and that hasn't worked either.

Just how do I connect a G4 to an Airport Extreme Base station via LAN cable, and then get it to connect to an existing wireless network (that's using a non Mac router). It's just that the existing airport card is painfully slow with a NAS and as I had the AE kicking about I thought I'd use that rather than buying a new PCI AE card.

OS X :: Airport Extreme Versus Netgear Router?

Oct 19, 2010

I have an old Belkin pre-N router and Virgin internet.

I am considering getting a new router and was wondering what people think about the airport extreme versus others, specifically the Netgear N300 dual band routers, such as the WNDR3700? Both are about the same price.

I have 3 Macbook Pros and an old Windows xp computer and my mac pro currently on our home network, with my mac pro on the ethernet cable and the rest on wireless.

Is the range on the airport extreme good for outdoors as well as going through walls to upstairs?

Hardware :: Connecting AirPort Express With Router

Nov 18, 2010

I have a D-Link Extreme router, and the WiFi has issues with my MacBook and such every so often and it drives me absolutely crazy. But I have 2 wired computers and a Xbox 360 that never have a problem plugged into the router via ethernet. I was wondering if I bought a Airport Express and plugged it into the 4th port of my router rather then into modem would it have enough juice to transfer the WiFi? I don't want to spend the extra money on a more expensive router for some plugs and WiFi if I can still use my router for wired and send a wire to the Airport for wireless. Yet I don't want to spend the money on the Airport Express if it can't be used like that like some other routers can.

OS X :: Adding Airport Express To Wired Router?

Jun 5, 2006

I have a PC (running XP Pro) that accesses the internet through a wired router (D-Link) hooked to a cable modem. My boyfriend just moved in with his iBook and Airport Express. I hooked the Airport Express to a LAN port on the wired router, and it basically works fine. He is able to access the internet wirelessly without any trouble. I also connected the printer to Airport Express and he is able to print wirelessly. However, I thought I was going to be able to also print to the printer because following info from Airport FAQ.

FROM AIRPORT EXPRESS FAQ:

Question: AirPort Express connects via wire to my third-party router, and I have plugged a compatible USB printer into AirPort Express. Will it share the printer with my non-Apple computers, too?
Answer: AirPort Express acts as a print server for any Mac OS X 10.2 or later, Windows 2000, or Windows XP computer that is on the same subnet, regardless of whether the third-party router is wired or wireless.

Can anyone comment on this? How can I make this feature work from my wired computer? Is there something I need to do to make them on the same subnet? Also, if there IS a way to print via Airport Express, is there a way for me to access airTunes too?

I did read a somewhat similar situation and this is what was advised. "Manually give it an IP address and subnet in airport admin (under the internet tab). For example if your router IP address is 192.168.x.1 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0 give your Airport Express 192.168.x.2 255.255.255.0. i.e. give your Airport Express 1 IP number higher than your router. Also make sure you are not distrupting IP address from your Airport Express, and you are creating a wifi not joining."

MacBook :: Airport Stopped Connecting To Router?

Jan 3, 2009

I have macbook intel 2.0 GHz and Mac OS X 10.4.11.I had no problems with connecting with belkin g plus mimo router (f5d9230-4) before, but suddenly it dropped down the connection. It was about two months ago, in meantime I was trying to reset modem and router many times, I did "restore factory default" on the router and set it up again, I was trying to change location in network system preferences, but it doesn't work.I see my router as available in airport networks list, but I am not able to connect to it, it shows "password is not valid" when I'm trying to do it by network setup assistant, and "there was an error joining the airport network" when by airport scroll down menu.

I was also trying to set router as a open network, or to change the password. My other wireless devices like iphone 3g have no problems with setting up such connection, but my macbook must be wired if I want to access internet at the moment

My iBook G4 is having network issues. Since waking from sleep, it will connect to my Airport Extreme base station, but I can't access the web, or access the router from Airport Utility.

Things I've tried so far:

*Rebooting

*Resetting the router to factory defaults

*Swapping out the router for a Linksys

*Clearing out network passwords from Keychain

I doubt it's a hardware issue, as everything works in Tiger (booting from an external drive).

Hardware :: Which Non - Apple Router To Use With Airport Express?

Feb 19, 2010

I'm sure this has been asked upwards of a million times around here, and I've read a few of them. What I'm looking for is updated information. I was all set to buy a Linksys WRT54G as suggested by Arstechnica in 2004. However reading the first reviewer here suggests that Linksys has changed their internal firmware, and that I may not be able to use it anymore. All that has put me back at square one. Since this is a hack, different versions of each router may or may not work. I really want to know what currently sold routers people have managed to work with their Airport express.
