View 8 Replies View RelatedI accidentally deleted my Quickens files and Emptied the Trash. Now I'm trying to recover it using Data Rescue II, I found the folder Documents/Quicken, but there is just one file. When I recover it, Quicken program won't open it - Can't load the file.
Where else could Quicken files be? I'm looking for .qdfm file format, but still can't find anything else.
Could somebody advise what else I could try to find those deleted files?

View 1 Replies View Relatedup until a few days ago...maybe after 9.0.3 update...on my macbook pro under snow leopard, im certain i could drag files from itunes library or a playlist into the trash.
if i drug the file from the library to the trash, you would here the trash can "eating sound" and it would be gone from the library (one step). if it was from a playlist, it would delete that file from the playlist but not from the library as expected. now, i cant do either. now i have to right click and delete the file/s and then click move to trash.
For some reason, now when I delete or try to drag files/folders to trash, I get warning message 'This item will be deleted immediately. You can't undo this action.' And the files do NOT go into trash. Same if I CMD delete. I noticed this when I emptied the Aperture trash, got a warning something about permissions and cannot empty some files. They disappeared from Aperture, but the referenced master files were still in the original folder on my HD.(So I relocated the masters I was keeping, then deleted the remaining, they did not go into the trash but were permanently deleted). I don't recall changing any settings!I checked in Finder > Preferences > Advanced > 'Empty trash securely' is NOT selected.

I was trying to delete one file , so i dragged to trash, then all of a sudden I realize my entire Drobo (3TB Huge) was highlighted and deleting to my trash! So now I have a trash folder full all my Drobo's content and I can't figure out how to get it all back to "put back"! i couldn't delete a file from my trash can, so i followed a link i found in a thread where some one had the same problem as i did, in the link i found a guide that said i should go to terminal and enter "sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash" so i did, and yea my trash can was now empty, but then i tried to delete a file by dragin' it into my trash can in the dock, my macbook now tells me that the file will be deleted INSTANT, i search the internet again and found out that my problem was that the command i intered in terminal (sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash) deleted my trash directory

It seems I have accidentally deleted a 500gb external hard drive (formatted as OSX Journaled), but the trash has not been emptied so the drive is still very full. When the hard drive is mounted, OSX previews these deleted files in the systems main trash folder. How can I restore these files to the hard drive? I can just drag them out, becuase that is like copying.... and the drive is full.

Despite having several files in the trash, its icon never changes (always shows an empty trash) and the "Empty Trash" option is dimmed (that is, cannot be used). OnyX ws the only solution but it's temporary. What's the fix I should apply to Mac OS X? Also, why is it that every time I want to move a file to trash I must enter my password? It's annoying to say the least.Please help me as I don't want to go through the royal pains of installing everything again, Windows-style. I think Mac OS X should be better than that.

Well my 2006 1.83 C2D died last week. I don't think it's the HDD, I believe it's the logic board.
When I boot the machine I get a grey screen with a spinning wheel for infinity. A day before it was doing this at reboot but after 10 minutes or so the logon screen would appear and hte machine would work normally.
The 160GB HDD in the machine is less than a year old having replaced the 60gb drive that fried back then after 3.5yrs hard use.
The machine is no longer worth salvage IMHO and I've ordered a new MBP to replace it, but I need some of the data on the old drive, such as the contents of mail and iPhoto.
If I plug the old drive into a USB cariage and assuming the drive is not duff, is there any easy way to migrate the data?
Is there a way to recover lost files on Mac OS for free without having to purchase software or an app?
