OS X :: Unable To Install Wireless Printer / Already Have A Similar Printer Set Up
Jan 15, 2010I got a new HP wireless printer, and the mac suggested setting it up with the USB first, and then disconnecting once it was configured. I did all that.The mac asked to choose a wireless network for the printer, I did. Then the set up CD asked me to add a printer to the qeue from system preferences from the menu- when I clicked my printer was already added. None the less I followed the direction, and then got the message "You already have a similar printer set up, would you like to add this too?" I clicked YES, and then continue.
When I clicked on continue, the set up cd (or mac) told me that I had NOT set up a printer from the Queue (sorry about spelling), even though I had. So when I clicked continue, it told me the printer was not recognized in the wireless network, and now I'm stuck with plugging it in the usb. Please I know this sounds confusing, but why is this happening and what do I do to get the mac to recognize my printer? Apparently its not.My wireless signal is fine, I checked.

Apr 13, 2010My Brother HL-3040CN printer only has an ethernet connector for network printing (as well as a usb port). If I wish to print wirelessly is there an adaptor or a wireless hub that I can plug it into with the cable?
I'm asking this because I've read the iPad doesn't have any means of connecting it to a printer with a cable. I won't buy an iPad now but maybe next year.
EDIT: Would an Airport Express do the job?

May 25, 2012I have a deskjet 3050a that is installed on my 10.6.8 macbook pro, which is up-to-date on it's software.Â
I can ping the printer from my router, so I know it is on the network. I cannot, however, ping it from my mac. Sometimes, I can reboot the printer and then I'll see it from my mac and, other times, that doesn't work.Â
I've tried editing the hosts file, but that didn't work. I've tried setting the IP on the printer to a static, but that didn't workÂ

Mar 5, 2010When I first set up this new macbook pro the printer installed perfectly and worked great. Today I hit 'print' and nothing. No printer installed. I'm not a computer guru so I don't know what to do when set up asks for 'machine' ip addresses. What machine...printer or laptop?? Right now I'm very frustrated because it worked great and now, poof, it doesn't. I tried using the install dvd to reinstall the printer after clicking customize it still looked like it wanted to reinstall the whole operating system. Wasn't clear to me at all so I ended that before really screwing things up.
Here's how I'm set up: 13" MacBookPro unibody aluminum, SnowLeopard OSX6, Airport Extreme wireless router, Brother MFC490CW Wireless printer with my wife's intel iMac also connected to the printer via lan cable. I would seriously appreciate some suggestions that I can understand to get this what should be a simple configuration to work and stay put. I suspect it's a simple process but at this point I'm clueless.

Dec 4, 2014I have a Canon MP560 wireless printer. For several years the printer has been on my wireless network and has been used successfully by several Windows laptops. I recently purchased a used Macbook Pro and I would like to be able to print wirelessly to this printer. The Macbook pro is successfully connected to the same wireless network that the printer is on. I have read through many, many articles and forum posts on how to get this working but I am unable to. When I go in to the system preferences>printers to add the wireless printer it never shows it as an available device. I have done the following:
1. updated to the latest OS X 10.9.5
2. installed the latest driver for the printer from canon's website
3. Downloaded the latest canon inkjet printer software update from the app store
4. reset the printing system several times
5. I have plugged the printer directly in to the Macbook via USB cableÂ
When I have the printer plugged in via USB it is shown in the list of printers and works fine. But when I disconnect the USB cable it shows the printer as offline and I see no way to have the printer available as a wireless printer. If I click the + button to add a printer there are no printers to select to be added.Â
I have gone through the steps in several forum postings including this one: MacBook Air won't find HP wireless printer and similar other ones but so far nothing has solved this issue.

May 13, 2012It worked a month ago. But now, since the update, I can't get my MacBook and printer to hook up and play nice. They're both on the same network, and both say they're connected okay, but the Mac can't find the printer wirelessly. Works fine via USB. I've rebooted the router, rebooted the Mac, rebooted the printer, and even completely uninstalled and then reinstalled the HP printer software, along with that update from the Apple support site. Its like there's a wall blocking their communication. Weird.

Jun 6, 2012I am a new intern with a small company and am trying to connect my Macbook Pro's printer settings to our office printer, which is a LanierLD145. We halso have an HP3600 on the same wireless network which my Macbook can detect and print to just fine via the shared network server. However, when I try to find the LanierLD145 I can't find it anywhere on my shared network or via a wireless to connection in order to print to it from my laptop.
I have access to the desktop I believe the printer is routed to the server through and have "shared printer with network" via this computer. However, I still cannot find the LD145 icon on my macbook when I try to connect and print, even when going through the "Windows"-> (shared server) route. I've also installed apple's "general lanier printer driver" in hopes have luck finding the printer if I have the driver installed, but that has not worked either. How I can connect the macbook to the LanierLD145 via my wireless server connection?
