I just have a really quick question. I ordered the maxupgrades optibay solution which comes in today. I need that extra HDD for bootcamp. Here's my question, can I just run by best buy and pick up any external dvd drive that is USB and use it?

I have the crashed drive connected to my other mac as an external drive and I am trying to get my mail files. I was using Mavericks on the crashed drive and I am trying to get them off onto a mac that has Mavericks too. How can I find my mail files on an external drive? If I install it as an external drive it will not boot up.

I have and Maxtor touch one III. I have installed the software update for mac OS, but it still wont find my hard drive. Its not mac format, but its FAT32 and I heard that worked as well. I can try to format it to mac format, but there is still some data on it that I want.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just added a 1 Terabyte drive for both backup and regular file storage. I partioned the drive so I would have a volume purely for backup. Backing up to the drive was taking forever, i searched and found index is the problem. I also found a couple ways to stop indexing. I utilized the touch function, but the .metadata_never_index doesn't seem to take at all. I have since utilized the sudo mdutil function for just the backup volume and this works. However..... Will this permanently leave indexing off on this volume? The drive backs up my laptop so it's disconnected frequently. Also does anyone have a guess to why the never index function didn't work? The syntax looked to be perfect.
touch /Volumes/Obsidianice Backup/.metadata_never_index
Whenever i ran the ls function
ls -a /Volumes/Obsidianice Backup
to check it it returned
No such file or directory
I want the most secure and most protected so I do not have any chance for me to loose my information. I hear good things about g tech, what are your experiences? Should I go with a RAID, will it work with IMAC? I did tons of research and found nothing but conflicting info about each brand. My eyes are bleeding now.

First thing, I've barely used OS X, let alone with an external monitor. How well does OS X handle it? Is it pretty simple, and can I set separate backgrounds for each display?
Secondly, will the GPU handle it alright, or will it be sluggish when I hook up the external? I'll mostly be using the 20" to do Photoshop work, with occasional video editing (though I have other computers available to do rendering on.)
i have a power mac g-5 quad with an external dvd drive and a external hard drive and 2gb of ram. on my ext. hard drive i downloaded mac the ripper and that is where i put all my dvds, now today on my pmac i was using mac the ripper, popcorn, itunes, safari all at once and it froze up on me?why? could the ram be an issue? how may programs can i use at once with my pmac?

This is more than the total of everything I have on the drive other than that. Time Machine has always been setup on an external drive and when searching all files on the Macbook there is nothing for backup files so don't know where it is coming from.

I'm fairly Technical, I just can't seem to figure this one out. I own a 13 Inch Macbook with the stock 120 GB HD. It was purchased this past September 2008. I bought a new HD from Newegg. Here is the link to the HD. [URL]
I read the reviews, and more than 20 reviews I read said this HD worked perfectly in their Macbook.
-So I received the HD yesterday
-I put it inside my laptop
-I put in the OSX install CD
-I powered up and held down C and booted into OSX Installer
-From the menu I selected Disk Utility but the hard drive does not show up as listed hard drives
After all attempts failed, I put the disk in my windows machine as an extra sata drive, and it booted perfectly fine, so I know the disk is ok. Some other thoughts?
-The difference between the stock and new HD is size and also 1.5 GB vs 3.0 GB Transer rate
-Does my Macbook need a firmware upgrade - I doubt this, but just a thought
-Does the Macbook not recognize unformatted disks - I doubt this too.
i noticed there was no hard drive icon on the desktop. so i opened up the finder, and made the mistake by dragging the hard drive icon that is on the left side of the finder out of the finder and tried to put it on the desktop.

I am considering buying an external Dvd Drive they all seem to have a max speed of 8x, as does my macbook pro drive.
I am currently in the process of ripping my dvd collection would I benefit from this? I assume I would save the internal drive a lot of wear and tear this way, but my need is for the increase in speed.
My company uses a network drive attached to our router. I can connect to the drive fine, but only after a fresh reboot. If I turn on off the MBP or hibernate it, when it boots back up it tells me it can't find the network drive. Trying to reconnect to the network or turning airport on and off doesn't work. I have a mac mini that i never shut off that never loses connection, only the laptops.
