I recently updated to 10.7.3 my lion macbook pro system and my sound is muted (I hear that it works only on startup). When i try to modify it appears a grey-black icons of the sound and a disallowance symbol. I try to reinstall the combo but nothing changed. I even try to put an audio jack inside and outside the port but it still doesn't work.

My sound does not seem to be working following the latest update to Mavericks (10.9.4). I am running a 2012 Retina Macbook Pro. Sound does not work with speakers, headphones or built-in sounds. Its not on mute, I have checked the Audio Midi setup and Sound settings and everything is as they were prior to the update, so the sound should still be working.Â
I have tried resetting the SMC and PRAM, no luck yet. Also tried re-installing the update but did not work.Â
I updated my Macbook pro to the new Yosemite last week, now when I FaceTime it makes a popping sound

I have latest OS, latest safari & latest flash player installed. However when I go to sites with flash content I get no sound and the audio control is greyed out. (in both safari and firefox) I did get sound before the last os X update. If I go to same pages with my ipad, it uses a different player (i pressume html 5). How can I force safari / lion / webistes to use just html 5 (is this even possible ) and it plays sound fine.  I have tried unintalling flash but then I get no video as well.Â

We just updated our G5s here at the lab (QuickTime and Garageband ), and now the sound output is extremely distorted and crackly regardless if its a video on cnn or a song off iTunes. Tried Zapping the PRAM and repairing permissions, even reinstalled QT from the standalone installer on apple to no avail.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSound was working fine on mac mini (mid 2010) until I updated to 10.7.4. Now Toshiba TV shows up as an option under sound, but no sound comes out. I tested that my stereo system is not the problem - it still plays sound through hdmi from the blu ray player.I tried resetting PRAM and SMC on the mac mini, neither worked. I followed all the troubleshooting steps prior to resetting the SMC and the problem persisted.

I was reluctant to update my 27inch i5 iMac with the new graphics card firmware update since I wasn't having any flickering issues. I finally caved in and did it thinking that nothing bad will happen, well of course something did. Ever since I updated it yesterday my computer makes a distinct and random popping sound from the speakers, it is soft but audible in my quiet room when I am working and it is driving me crazy.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis started happening randomly earlier tonight, and I haven't managed to find a fix just yet.I was encoding a video file for quite awhile (I don't think that parts important, but I thought I'd include it anyway) and then I tried to play a youtube video. I noticed there was no sound, so I tried to up the volume using the Volume Up key on the keyboard. The volume visualisation appeared on the screen like normal (albeit a bit laggy), but the sound still didn't change, neither did I get the usual 'click' noise you get when you change the volume.I went looking into the sound options in the system prefs. only to find that the Output Sound device was headphones. For a test I plugged in some headphones to see what happened and, low and behold, the Output Sound device changed to the Internal Sound and my speakers were working again, but only with the headphones plugged in.

He claims the original owner installed a new Seagate 7200rpm in the book, and that it mostly happens when loading a web-page on Safari.
Every time I look up "hard drive click" I get the SMS triggered "tink" but this notebook is not in motion and instead makes a "ca-chink".
For some odd reason, I have been experiencing some creaking when I move the display of my Unibody 15.5" Macbook Pro. At all. It just is very annoying, as it has a distinct plastiky sound to it, and it was not there to begin with. I don't know if this matters, but I have a Speck clear case that I used, but then I took it off because it seemed to be twisting the display a bit. Is this creaking a known issue with the Unibodies, or is it just because of the Speck case? I have never dropped my computer, and it has never been mistreated. It just leads its life on my desk or in my laptop bag. Any ideas?

For reasons unknown the internal sound option has disappeared from my MBA. The little speaker icon on the menu bar is grayed out and nothing comes from the jack. Internal speakers don't even show up as an option under sound output. I do use an Airport Express for external speakers but it's been playing happily with the internal speakers for months.

View 14 Replies View RelatedEvery time I depress my trackpad (the one built into my MBP 15" mid 2009) It is doing a slight squeak...Now I'm meticulous about how well I keep my beloved MBP... but I do use it everyday for many things (Including design, word processing, accounts, pwning the microsoft network at my office)
But I am guessing that these things are built to last... and shouldn't have an effect on how much I have used it right... Should I take it to Apple and let them have a look at it is there a quick thing that I can do to mend it? Or should I just get over it and accept it as quirk of it's character?

After doing the update to OS X 10.7.4 on my MacBook Pro, I am experiencing a few problems. First all my applications would not open any more - almost none of them - so now I am running them all in 32-bit mode. This also happened with Safari after the last update. The second problem, my sofware update is not responding anymore? When I do a software update, it fails, giving me a problem report. The report is pasted below below.Â

My Softward Update and App Store repeatedly "crash unexpectedly" (along with Dashboard, Finder and a whole host of other applications).Â
I have tried everything but it seems there is no way I can use either of them.Â
As a result, I haven't been able to update anything for months and my OSX is now thoroughly screwed up.Â
Is there any way I can update OSX without using Softward Update or App Store? Is there an update file I can download without having to go through them?Â
I'd prefer not to resort to OSX Restore as I don't want have my Microsoft Office product key.

I currently have some good headphones and use the front jack. How do I hook up the three speakers? Do they all plug into one jack in the back? And what about the subwoofer, does it need a special jack.Final question: is there something I could purchase to improve the sound that wouldn't be too expensive? View 6 Replies View RelatedI just bought an iMac 24" 2.8Ghz Dual Core, 2Gb RAM, 320 HDD. This nice iMac has been with me only 2 days and the problems already started. I don't know why when I play a song either in iTunes or in web(audio streaming) the audio suddenly changes. It's as if you applied an EQ and removed all the low frecuencies and after a few seconds the sounds returned just as normal. When this "auto EQ" happens, the sound becomes "brighter" (I hope you understand what I am trying to say) but just as I said, after a few seconds, the sound is played normaly. I am running Mac OS X v 10.5.2.

I'm pretty new here, though I posted over a year ago here with a few questions as a beginning switcher. My switch completed in Christmas of 2005 with a late '05 Power Mac G5 Dual-Core 2.3GHz with 1GB RAM and 250GB HDD. I decided to get another monitor and it is a Sony 19" LCD one. I also didn't get any speakers since I used headphones a lot at the time. I recently decided to start using speakers. So temporarily, I am using the Altec Lansing BX1120 2.0 Stereo speakers from Walmart for only $15. They sound great but I would like 5.1 surround sound to watch my DVDs (and to soon upgrade to BluRay & SACD/DVD-A; but that's for another thread later on). Before I go on, I would like to ask questions and provide facts with what my 'puter has. My specific products I'm looking for is at the bottom of this message.
