View 5 RepliesI'm running OSX 10.5.8 on a Macbook Pro, and today I've been unable to connect to the internet via ethernet or wi-fi, unless I'm in safe mode. Then everything seems to work as it should, which makes me believe that this is a software issue rather than a hardware problem. I've tried making a new account with administrator priveleges, but that doesn't solve my issue. Does anyone have any advice on how I can connect to the internet under my normal user account, rather than in safe mode? I should note that I won't be able to get my hands on my repair CD or perform a clean install of OSX because that stuff is at home, and I'm in college. Also, I'm at a university and don't have a router. I just use the campus-wide wi-fi. Finally, my roommate has no problem accessing the internet in our room via ethernet or wi-fi, but I do. Thanks for the help everyone.

It sits idle with the blue loading bar stops about 1/10th of the way across the address bar and sometimes the not connected to internet page comes up eventually.
Im using a netgear CG814WG v2 with my appartments provided internet. We have to log into the net here with a password and user name if that makes a difference
Anyway, so I bought a 15" 2.66GHz MBP beginning of December and up until a day or 2 ago I've been experiencing problems when I try connecting to the internet.
There are 2 other computers in the house (Windows based, don't know if that's go anything to do with it) and they both connect just fine.
So is there anything wrong with the MBP that I can fix?
(I've tried rebooting the MBP, the router, the modem, everything...)
I spent a year in Turkey as an exchange student, and of course I brought my macbook with me. In Turkey they are kind of uptight about which websites you're allowed to visit.
Youtube, last.fm and myspace are all blocked for (ridiculous) political reasons. Not really a problem, I could acces them via sites like vtunnel etc.
Now I'm back at home since several weeks, but still I'm not able to visit these sites and I get the same government-warning in Turkish. Anyone knows how to convince my macbook that I'm back in the free world?
I have a MBP that will not connect to the internet. The airport shows an ip, but shows failed for internet and server. I have another laptop, desktop, ipad 2&3, iphone and 3 ipods connected to wifi and work flawlessly. I called the ISP and spoke with them for about 2 hours and they say all settings are right, and they can even see the MBP on their end. Wanted to add, i cannot connect with ethernet either, wired directly to modem by bypassing router.

I have a MacBook pro that I'm having issues with. It connects to my home Wi-Fi (the n version of the Apple Airport Base Station) and I get a strong signal but whether I use Firefox or any other web browser or internet based program I get a message that I'm not connected to the internet. I can even select network diagnostics and it walks me through steps where I choose my network, reset my cable modem, base station, etc. and at the end it says it is unable to fix the problem. i have a 2nd MBP that I use on the same network with no issues at all. This issue started showing up about a month ago but did not happen often. Most of the time it happened when I had shut my MBP down since I had to go take it with me to meetings. Often after removing the battery for a minute I could boot up and it would work but now no matter what I do it won't work.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy girlfriend's MacBook (OSX 10.4) recently decided to not access the internet. I have a Linksys wireless router with 2 PC's connected (via ethernet). She usually connects to the router using her built-in AirPort. But, a couple days ago, she was surfing the internet and clicked on a page, and she got the whole "You are not connected to the internet" window. Usually this is no big deal, just a quick power cycle for the router and we're back on track. This time is different. Not only does she still see the router (192.168.1.1), and can access it, but even when she's hardwired via ethernet cable the Macbook can't access the internet.
I love tech'ing things out, and am a real geek for troubleshooting. But, I can't figure this out for the life of me. My other PC's can connect wirelessly, and surf the internet with ease. But, her Macbook seems as if it just doesn't want to access the internet.
I have a problem with my magic mouse, whenever the mouse is connected, I am not able to connect to the ineternet via wi-fi.When the bluetooth is off and I use a different mouse everything is ok.
Do u have any idea what could it be, or how to fix it?

I have an AirPort Extreme for almost a year now. I have never had any problems till today. Suddenly all devices in my home were not able to connect to the internet except my MacBook. I tried resetting and even restoring the AirPort Extreme but nothing has worked. The only thing recently that has happened was that I updated to OS X Yosemite Beta but that was days ago.

I'm visiting my mom and trying to access the internet via one of her neighbors. He's has ok'd this and gave me his password. In the past, this has worked. But now, my daughter can access internet on her mac, but I cannot. I have both mac right here side by side. One has access, one does not.
Everytime I open up my lap from its sleep mode and try to connect to a website it says, Unable to connect to the Internet. My network connection shows an active connection to the access point. I know the problem is the DNS. When the system is in the state of saying it can't connect to the internet I can both ping my local router, and through an IP for yahoo.com into the browser and have it resovlve.
Once I start my system and let it wait for 30 to 60 seconds it will finally work. For some reason the DNS is waiting for a while to kick on.
I just reconfigured my adsl2+ wifi router and after that wifi gets connected and I can access the router but I am not able to connect to the internet .

View 7 Replies View RelatedSo my 6 month old Unibody has had an issue for a while that it drops the internet connection, though keeping the network/WiFi connection. It started out just on campus where there is a campus wide SSID that is unencrypted, though requires a login to start browsing. A restart of the computer fixes this issue, though it always repeats itself (usually after 30-45 minutes of browsing, no downloading). Lately, the issue has been getting worse. It is now dropping the connection on other APs, and even stops the Airport card altogether (KisMac can't even scan). I had a backlight bleeding issue fixed by Apple. Is this connected? I know the airport card is in the screen, so maybe they didn't fix it well.

Skype is the app that keeps crashing the most, Safari and Firefox crash from time to time as well... and Mail.app crashes sometimes when Skype and Safari crash...
I already perform a fresh installation of the OS and no luck. I also kept on doing "repair disk permissions" with Disk Utility but also no luck...
The last time I performed a Tech Deluxe check and all test passed...
I think the problem can be either disk issues or faulty memory... in the worst of the worst motherboard .
My MacBook Pro will not open any app or program that requires Internet, even though I am connected to the web. I recently installed Norton AntiVirus and think it may have changed a setting that I couldn't find. I uninstalled Norton and it didn't help. Every time I open Safari, iTunes or any other program that tries to connect to the Internet, it crashes. Strangely enough, Skype still works, but nothing else. I have OSx 10.6.8. I have tried erasing plists, and all the standard troubleshooting, ie resetting modem, restarting computer, reloading Safari from disk.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy trackpad is now having some troubles on my Alu macbook. I can't highlight or drag things anymore. Occasionally it will work but it will be jerky and only highlight bits that I don't necessarily need. This is vital for me as I need to copy parts of statutes etc. as I'm in law school. I think I have installed the firmware update but I'm not entirely sure - if someone could link me to it that'd be grand.
My internet on campus is also extremely slow.. It doesn't have anything to do with the signal either. We have an Apple reseller on campus who said it might be a problem with the airport card.
Basically - should I take it in? Obviously it has some issues but I don't know if I'm being too pedantic or what..
I'm having an issue with my network connection in general (Problem persists on all browsers) Every once in a while, the page doesn't load and I get a message that says "Safari cant connect to the server.
Safari cant open the page [URL] because Safari cant connect to the server [URL] and it's the same with every other page. If I refresh, it usually reloads fine, or reloads partially.
My Dad is currently unable to connect to the Internet with his Mac.
He's using Mac OS X Version 10.4.11. It connected fine this morning but he's been unable to connect this afternoon or this evening. A message keeps popping up saying: "Could not find a PPPoE server". I've tried running through the wizard for setting up the connection but it doesn't seem to work.
I've been using my PC online all day with no problems.
I'm an iBook G4 user. I've had my computer for about 4 years and never had any problems, but in the past two weeks, I've been experiencing a lot of difficulty with my internet.
The problem's got to be with airport, because I'm connected right now with an ethernet cable and am having no issues.
Using my airport, I can still usually connect to the internet-- in fact, when I first connect to a wireless network, I have strong signal strength-- but I lose my internet connection after just a few minutes.
When I click on "Open internet connect," I can often reconnect to the network, but then I get the error message "out of range of network" and am booted off again.
This has happened to me on two separate internet networks-- both in my home and at the library-- so I think the problem is with my computer, not the signal.
There's not any physical object blocking the signal as far as I can see, and I've been able to use this wireless network in the past without any problems. (It's my partner's network and is and password protected, so it's not like I'm stealing it from someone next door or something.)
I'm running Mac OS X.
I've looked at getting airport express, but I don't want to pay money for something that may or may not fix the problem.
I have installed windows XP in my MACBOOK. Everything went well except internet connections. I am unable to connect with my wireless network. But able to connect when logged in mac OS. Do i need to install any drives for this.
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust recently I have not been about to surf the internet using Safari when I'm in a wireless area.
It just says Safari cannot find the server. However if I use Firefox it is just fine.
Before I didn't seem to have any problems. Just started yesterday. At home it startd.
Then been using wireless at the airport and now hotel. Can't use Safari.
I want to share my internet connection from Airport to computers connected to another network created by a USB wireless device attached to my system.
The network created by the USB wireless is working fine, and computers can connect to it, but they can't access the internet.
Anyways, i used to have a Linksys wrt54g router. It was hooked up and had an SSID of linksys. Later replaced it with i think the wrt110n or whatever the 110 draft N model number is. This router was set up and the wrt54g taken down (no longer plugged in at all). The wrt110n has an SSID of hawkes, and everything works fine but after browsing for an hour or so I will loose internet connection.
When I click the airport icon in the status bar it tells me that I am connected to a network called "linksys". I have to then click to reconnect to hawkes which is the network that I should be on.
Now I'm not sure if there is someone else broadcasting an unencrypted wireless network with the SSID linksys and my mac is just trying to connect to it at times or if it is getting confused and trying to connect to an old network?
I'm wondering if anyone has had similar problems or if anyone knows how I could tell the airport utility to "forget" about old networks with the name linksys so it will stop trying to connect to them?
Since one week impossible to connect my imac10.6.8 with internet .my fai told me to change my modem:done .Airport find the wifi but it is unstable or it is impossible to connect.but i dont have any problem with my ipad...

I have a macbook a little over a year old. It's my first mac and I love it. Yesterday though it started acting really weird. I first noticed that it was really, really hot and the fan was running. I turned it off and back on and here's what I found out:
Applications are being deleted from macbook. ITunes, IPhoto, iChat have clear question marks over icon. There are 8-10 blank spaces in the Applications folder where applications have been deleted. However, data is still there (ex. pictures still there, but no iPhoto).
Internet= Says I have internet but wont connect.
Cannot open " System Preferences" or "Internet Preferences".
If connected to home computer will connect to internet and allowed to open internet preferences but still no system preferences.
If shut down....takes a while to come back on and starts up 2-3 times.
Also "Preview" is gone. Now " ColorSync Utility" opens.
Is this my hard drive dying? I'm tech challenged, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
I can't share my iMac (OS 10.5.5) internet connection from a cable modem to an iBook G4 (OS 10.4.11) using AirPort.
