MacBook Pro :: Setting Up Email - Shutting Down And Restarted To No Avail?
Oct 12, 2010
I have had my new MBP a week now. Still learning. Having a real hard time setting up my e-mail. Fist loaded up my OPTONLINE acct. and that didn't work so I deleted that acct. Then loaded up my YAHOO acct. and that didn't work. I deleted that also. Then I went and got a new GMAIL acct. the mail program seems to access this acct but keeps asking for my password. I can access gmail from the web with no problem, so my password is correct. What am I doing wrong? I tried shutting down and restarted to no avail. I didn't set the setting in this program it did it automaticly.

My 17 inch Mac pro laptop just shut down and I can't get it to turn on again. This has happen multiple times over the last six months. Looked through the forum and tried removing the battery and resetting the SMC control to no avail. I was having issues also with the screen a month ago but that resolved by itself. When I took it into the genius bar for screen problems I was told I'd probably need a new CPU board because the vram may be going bad and they just don't fix that problem. Have held off because of a potential $500 repair and awaiting ivy bridge technology. How I can restart my portable. Right now you turn on the machine and the front light stays on for 2 sec and you hear the machine click off?

I have been trying hard to reboot my system macbook pro and tried every possible ways through disk utility set up but with no avail. I have a system back up on my external drive. when I run a disk repair I get a error massage disk cannot be repaired and says back up and reformat the disk. I tried erasing the disk and reinstall from my back up drive but cannot erase the drive and reinstall either and get a error. i tried to reinstall online from the apple server but I could not find the destination drive on my Mac. I tried to erase the drive using zero recovery but it took me more then 24 hours and keeps running and alto marly I have to stop it.

I have tried SMC and PRAM resets, and the issue has not been resolved. My magsafe is lit up with a bright green led. Battery status is "Not Charging." When I unplug the magsafe, the system immediately shuts down. Battery is brand new with only 2 cycles. While I can use the laptop with power connected, this is an issue that needs to be corrected asap, as I use this computer for performances consistently and if the power cord gets removed, I'm not in a good place.

I have a MacBook which has recently been shutting down when it feels like :/ this all started a week or two ago (well not the shut downs but other issues that I'll get too), basically the fan I think has been knocked as it is bumping the top or something as the whirring is getting loud and it sounds like every now and again it hits something
Also CPU usage seems to be averaging out at 20% for Safari and 100% for HD Video where as it used to be very small amount for Safari and 30 - 40% for HD.

when I first got my computer, and I went through the inital setup procedure, the computer asked for my email. I've since got a new email and was wondering how do I change the email I first gave to my new email? The same question could be applied to other details, such as address or phone number, etc.

I was wondering if anyone knows a good way of setting up time-delayed email?
The reason being, my girlfriend has her driving theory test about 3 days after I leave the country for a few weeks, and I will most probably be without internet access for the first few days I'm away.
At the moment, I'm sending her little mini tests every day, to help her revise, that I write myself (well, I copy them out of the book )
So I'd like to be able to send like 2 or 3 emails with mini-tests in... I'd like to specify the time and date they are delivered.

I just recently bought a mackbook pro, and i am using entourage for my email apllication, and when an email comes through with pictures in it, for an example when i get an email from cnet, it always wants me to click the download pictures to show the pictures in the email. When I used microsoft outlook for windows there was a setting to automaticlly download pictures in an email. i was just wondering if there was away to do that for Entourage. Macs, and mac software are a new thing for me, and i dont know alot about them yet.

My college email is a Microsoft Outlook Web Access Light 2007 account, using [URL]. I believe it is an Exchange account, as opposed to POP or IMAP, but I cannot find anywhere what to enter for "incoming mail server", "outlook web access server", or "outgoing mail server". I've tried [URL] which to me seems like the logical answer due to the generic example of [URL] along with a mix of other server names found on my email's about page.

I lost the startup tone a couple days ago. I repaired permissions, did an SMC and PRAM reset and it makes the tone while doing the PRAM reset but the next time you turn it on it doesn't make a sound.

- Volume is at max
- System Prefs>Sound>External Speakers>Volume Max>Not Muted
- No red light coming from the headphone jack
- Tried inserting and removing headphones, no sound in speakers or headphones
- Restarted computer while holding down ⌘ + OPT + P + R , no sound made
- A very very faint feedback, like when you plug an electric guitar in to an amp, can be heard when the first sound (the mac start up chime) is supposed to play on restart
- USB headphones work

This is my first mac notebook and i'm pretty puzzled on whats going on. First night with my new macbook air 13".. installed basic apps and parallels for a windows vm. I was having issues connecting to my NAS so i rebooted.. appeared to be taking forever to reboot so i closed the lid. An hour later opening the lid.. no response.. power button.. no response.. any ideas what's going on? Is there a way to hard reset it? I tried it on power and on battery with no luck..
edit: of course.. as I post this.. i try once again to press the power button.. it powers up fine.. still curious if this is a common issue..

I have a 15" 2.53 GhZ Macbook pro with 4 GB Ram. I am using Onyx for cleaning disk permissions as well as flushing the cache and other maintenance because I heard great things about it. The most recent time that I used it I Restarted my macbook and the mouse was frozen and I couldn't move it, even after like 5 minutes. So I did a hard restart and everything started up just fine.

This is happening to both my sister and me on two different macbook pros. When we open up the computer it shows the desktop then goes dark and nothing but a restart will bring everything back. I have checked our settings and it is not related to them. Also, it doesn't happen all the time, just sometimes. I can't find a reason for it.Â
Both are new and both run Lion's latest updates.Â

A few days ago it started with an error message after I logged in, but before the desktop appeard. Error message was about "your computer was restarted due to an error..." But in effect, it didn't restart. The message just appeard. After some investigations in the net, I thought this might be an issue with Kernel Panic. I run some HDD diagnostics and repaired the HDD out of the utility.Â
I canceled the support call I had logged that time. The MacBook ran well now 5 days, but today it restarted automatically (first time) and I got the error message back. Unfortunately, I don't get the window after it started-up, where I can get a report, so I can't post anything else besides my configuration.Â

The past couple days I have been using my Macbook and all of the sudden out of nowhere the message that pops up when you press the power button on your macbook while in OSX would pop up out of nowhere. It would just come up out of nowhere without me pressing anything. My Macbook could just be sitting there and it would pop up.
Fast forward to today and I used software update to upgrade the firmware. After I restarted the computer my Macbook would not even turn on. No lights, no chimes, no nothing. I don't even get a light on my magsafe power adapter when I plug it into my Macbook anymore.I tried resetting the PRAM, resetting the SMC, reseating the RAM, and turning it on without the battery in and it still won't turn on.What else can I do? My warranty period JUST expired so I don't want to shell out $500+ to get this thing fixed. Could my logic board be dead?

I did was restart and now I am stuck in OS X Utilities. I have 4 options:
1) Restore from Time Machine Backup.
2) Reinstall OS X.
3) Get Support online.
4) Disk Utility.Â
I tried disk utility first and it repaired a volume issue. I started the 1) restore from Time Machine backup. But it says "you will lose all info currently on the disk. Make sure you have backed up any items you want to keep."Â Should I continue?Â
I am hoping I will not lose pictures and my whole iTunes music catalog?Â

For some reason for the last day or 2, my imac screen will be filled with a shaded transparent screen with a message saying something along the lines that i must restart my computer. my system is the Mac OS X leopard 10.5.8.
It will happen at random times, sometimes it will take an hour, sometimes couple of minutes. Most times it happenes right when i click on say a file or a link or anything. But still happens when nothing is clicked or anything.
