I need to update the software on my macbook pro but It asks for administrators login which I do not know. Is there anything I can do to reset it?

Hi! Im new to the forums but i really need help with something and i was hoping someone here could help me out. So I just installed Tech Tool Deluxe onto my macbook and then shut it down later. I went back to use it again and when i turned it on a login screen appeared asking me to put in my password. I did that and the screen turned blue (looking like it was loading) and then went back to the login screen. Every time i put in my password it just takes me back to the login screen. I have had my mac for a while and i dont want my hardrive to get wiped out so what do i do? Thank you for looking

This is my first mac, I installed the 10.6.4 update the other day and restarted, since then it has been on or sleeping. I just shut it down and turned it on again and it's asking for my password. Each time I enter it goes to load and then comes back to the log in screen. I know I have the write password because it's a simple 4 digit one that I use for my bank account and if I enter anything else the box shakes and asks me to re-enter it. How do I log in?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI finally decided to to authorize the OS X update 10.5.6. Upon restart it went to login screen but i noticed my guest account was missing. Trying to login to my main account the screen turned into the default background for leopard, no icons appeared, then screen goes blue and goes back to login screen.
I tried repeatedly to login by restart, by shut down, by unplug the machine but no joy. I can log into one of my other accounts that has admin previledges.
Inside that account I can go to preferences and view my accounts where everything seems fine. The guest account is listed along with all other accounts. Ive tried changing passwords to get backinto main account but still no joy.
When going into finder/accounts the tree for my main account does not give me access permissions to look at or retrieve any of my files from any folder other than applications.
I am suddenly unable to log in to First Direct - I put in my user name and it simply refreshes the page asking me to input it again. It was fine earlier today before I updated. I phoned and they said there was no problem. I used my partner's Mac (with 10.5.5) and, sure enough, it's fine on there. Yet again, a software update solves a bunch of problems and then creates a few more.

View 4 Replies View RelatedHere again dealing with how OS X deals with .local domains I think.Was previously bound and all was working fine. Have just updated to 10.7.4 When trying to login using the "Other User" the button stays red and says Network accounts unavailable. I can ping domain server by name and IP.Permissions have been rebuilt.
Have rebound. Had a problem at first unbinding inside the Open Directory Utility as it said it could not connect with the domain and an unused account would be left if a forced unbind was done. Tried again by using the minus button instead of the Unbind button and it worked without any message.
So then binded to the domain and all looked good. Green button next to Network Account Server in the Users and Groups.

My Macbook (2012) has been running incredibly slow since I updated to Yosemite. My apps keep crashing, including safari and chrome and I'm sending about 5 reports a day to Apple whenever they crash.
Chrome crashed while I was writing this - it happens routinely.
But my biggest concern is that when I restart my computer, the login screen looks like this:
It says "update needed" where it should have my name and image. Â
I've found a few solutions on here about turning off the firevault and trying to restart the computer again, but this image was taken on my restart try after made that change. I do know that it says I still have a mavericks update available. I'm not sure how that happened because I updated everything before I moved to Yosemite, but my apps store still says I have an update for Mavericks 10.9.5...

- I can't login to update software/apps. the user /Apple ID part is grayed out as a person. I can't log in properly. It only offers up the password section. I can log into my apple id without problem, but it won't let me change the user name for updates.Â
- I use Chrome and it used to default to Google for search. Now it defaults to yahoo! even though in my preferences I have google set as default.Â
- I've gone through and deleted start-up software that started showing up (DropBox on launch, ipseacurity something)Â
- my background swapped out to a default today without me adjusting it.Â
- I used to be able to type directly into the chrome bar. now a chrome extension shows up instead and I have to select all and delete to enter textÂ
- everything is running really slowly.Â
Further background - I'm currently serving in the Peace Corps and have been using a VPN network and modem through Orange to secure my wifi connection. I've tried to be careful but perhaps not careful enough. I have gone through all my extensions and settings and dumped everything I didn't recognize but am not sure what other precautions to take/how to fix things.

I've been using a custom login background tile by the usual method; replacing NSTexturedFullScreenBackgroundColor.png in System-->Library-->Frameworks-->AppKit.framework-->Versions-->C-->Resources. After the 10.7.4 update, my custom tile is still in the correct place, but the system is displaying the stock login .

My iMac takes 3 minutes after logging in, until it allows any inputs. Stays stuck on the desktop, none of the hot corners work, nor does the dock allow inputs for about 3 minutes. I checked the Console immediately after it allows me to, and theres a bunch of stuff on the IOkit that seems to be the culprit.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Leopard. On my way to bed I saw that there was an update to be installed. I clicked install, but the install took to long (and was being executed in a special screen after the shut down of the computer, so there were no annulation options) and I was so annoyed with the length of the installation that I shut my computer down. A big no, so it seems, because the next morning when I booted my computer, the login screen appeared. I set up-auto login, so seeing a login window was strange. When I entered my correct password, I first saw a blue screen and then returned to the log-in screen. There appears to be no way for me to log-in.
Things I've tried: safe boot, booting with the install DVD (I checked the harddrive for any problems, there were none) and booting while pressing an interesting variety of keys. With the same result: none. I tried doing the root-user thing, but to no avail. I think I don't have root user selected in finder. The updated I tried to install was the last one seeded by apple, I think it was the 10.5.3 update; there were three files to be installed. My computer is and intel iMac from the first quarter of 2007.
I'm looking for a system that can track about 50 MBP's providing both remote wipe as part of an overall security protocol, and also remote screen/desktop for admin purposes. I looked at preyproject.com but it looks like they only do remote wiping/tracking. that I don't want something locked to a single user, it should be centrally managed.Â

I just literally updated my macbook pro to the latest version of Lion, today 4/3/12 and now it's just stuck on the main log in page for lion. As in, I type in my password, it thinks for two seconds, goes black, and has the log in page again. It just loops. No end in site. I've rebooted in safe mode, run disk utitily, and repaired the disk... but no dice, still. It repairs the disk, fine right? When I reboot in regular mode, it just goes back to the password/login screen loop.

Recently, my Macbook Pro has been asking for my iCloud password every time I have logged in, or taken my computer out of sleep mode. I don't use iCloud and never have, and have signed out through system preferences as well. I hit cancel when it makes the request, but the window just pops again right away. Â
I have checked my Login Items and iCloud is not one of them.
Is there a way to get this to stop, or even better, is there a way to delete iCloud safely?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Seagate Free Agent external USB hard disk (250 GB) which I had reformatted to FAT32. This draws power from the USB port and seems to work perfectly on my Linux (Fedora Core 8) and Windows (XP) boxes. On the Mac, when it is plugged in, it asks me whether it should Initialize, Ignore or Eject. I choose "Ignore" and then go on to mount it from the terminal using the commands sudo mkdir /Volume/FA sudo mount /dev/disk2s1 /Volume/FA. The device name has to be found out first using Disk Utility. After it is mounted, I can read, write, delete etc. without any problem.
Question: Why does it not mount this disk automatically? Even when it is mounted why does it not put a disk icon on my Desktop? I have no issues with smaller FAT32 pen drives which show up on my Desktop a few seconds after I plug them in.

Even though I have my router in preferred network list, my MBA still asks me to select a network to join. It says that none of my preferred network is in range, and only shows my router after I "refresh" the list by clicking on the airport icon. My UMBP connect to my network fine. I work for a company that has several Macs available for customers' use. These are basically demo-machines that they can play with, and at the end of each day, the machines are wiped and rebooted.
The way we do this is simple: the machines auto-login to the Guest account, which will wipe the account at the end of the day. Well, getting a few new Macs in this week, I simply copied over the entire Guest user account to the new machines to avoid reloading all the demo content, preferences, etc. And truthfully, the machines have been working great.
Except one thing. The computer keeps giving me that annoying message that says "Safari (or Finder, or System Preferences, or anything!) wants to use keychain 'login'". And asks for the login keychain password. Well here's the thing: the Guest accounts don't have passwords!
So I looked up a little bit on this topic, and did things like... Went to "Keychain List" in the Edit menu of Keychain Access, and deleted both the "login" and "system" keychains. No help. I went to Preferences in Keychain Access and said "Reset My Keychain". When doing this, however, it asks for the new password for the login keychain.
The problem with this is that I cannot leave the field blank! The Guest account doesn't have a password, so how am I supposed to not create a password?
