MacBook Pro :: Keeps Going To Sleep By Itself - OS X Yosemite 10.10.1

Dec 2, 2014

My macbook pro keeps going to sleep and sometimes it won't wake up.. or the screen flicker between sleep and awake. I've done all the hardware tests and it says everything is in working condition. Sometimes it works perfectly all day and sometimes it doesn't.. I've reset the PRAM and NVRAM and that doesn't seem to fix the issue.. (I have a video I filmed with my iphone of the problem but I can't add it). My MacBook Pro is barely a year old.

OS X Yosemite :: MacBook Pro Wakes From Sleep Within 30 Seconds

Dec 9, 2014

Since I've upgraded from MacOSX 10.9 to Yosemite, my MacBook Pro wakes from sleep within 30 seconds. I've tried solutions suggested on Google, but they have had no effect (and usually are about MacBook's waking up after 2 hours).

I'm running OSX Yosemite (10.10.1) on s
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)
2.4 Ghz Intel Core i5
8 GB 1600 Mhz DDR3
Intel Iris 1536 MB
256 Gb SSD with 125Gb free

To figure our what is going on I've started OSX in safe mode and logged in using the guest account. Also I've turned off WIFI and Bluetooth. The problem still occurs. The syslog shows relatively little from the moment that I select 'Sleep' and the computer wakes again (see below).

MacBook :: Sleep Doesn't Work With Connected Power Adapter Under Yosemite 10.10.1

Nov 30, 2014

My MacBook Pro 13" (Mid 2010) doesn't go to sleep, when I close the lid or when I try to activate sleep under the Apple menu. I haven't changed nothing in the system preferences. I already tried the following: unplugged all USB devices plugged and unplugged external display closed all applications (except of Finder of course) resetted all energy saving preferences deactivated bluetooth checked share options (everything is deactivated)

Then I unplugged it from the power supply and after I closed the lid, it went to sleep. Then plugged in power supply again and sleep didn't work.

OS X Yosemite :: Power Reset Required After Sleep

Dec 9, 2014

Often when I put my iMac to sleep in the evening I find the system unresponsive when I come to use it the next day. I can see instantly that the system has an issue because I see that the screen backlight is on. The system does not react to any mouse or keyboard input and requires a power off reset to restart.

I thought that the issue may involve Parallels which is often running when I have this issue , however, I have spoken with Parallels support who recommended removing parallels, repairing the disk permissions and reinstalling Parallels which appears to have had no effect.

The iMac is very new and was purchased in November 2014 and is configured with a 3.5GHz i7 processor, 16GB or RAM 3TB HD and NVIDEA 980 graphics card.

Mac Pro :: Yosemite Doesn't Awaken Monitors After Sleep

Dec 9, 2014

After a recent upgrade to Yosemite my dual monitors randomly don't awake after sleep. This all worked fine in Mavericks.

(I have a similar problem with my Thunderbolt disk drives which again worked fine in Mavericks, but now I always get "Disk did not eject properly" on awakening from sleep. I'll post this as a separate issue.)

The manual solution to both problems is to unplug the Thunderbolt cable - but doing that more than 10 times a day is not on.

OS X Yosemite :: Keyboard / Trackpad Stop Working After Sleep Mode?

Dec 3, 2014

After a few hours of uptime, certain keys on my keyboard stop working and I have to reboot: both command keys and the zero key. Sometimes, after the computer has been in sleep a long time, the keyboard and mouse don't respond at all. I can get the computer to wake up again by pressing the power key, but the mouse and keyboard don't respond, so I can't do anything except hard boot.  This problem first appeared after the update to 10.10.1. (I'm dealing with it right now, so I'm getting the '0' through the keyboard viewer, but there's no way to access that from the password screen.)

MacBook Air :: Airport Connection/Sleep Versus Sleep Display?

Apr 9, 2008

I leave my Air on pretty much all the time, and put it to sleep while moving around etc. Sleeping it disconnect the Airport connection - which if very annoying. At a desk I've just been dimming the display all the way off in order to keep my connection.

However, I recently noticed that by setting a "sleep display" hot corner, my network connection is maintained.

I have 2 questions:
1) Is sleep display equivalent (functionally) to simply dimming the display all the way down?
2) Is there a way to either set up a shortcut to sleep the display (other than a hot corner) and/or set it so that only the DISPLAY sleeps after 'x' minutes?

MacBook Pro :: Sleep Light Doesn't Blink When MBP Left To Sleep?

When it's about to sleep the screen dims, then turns black, then the sleep light comes on but does not blink no matter how long I leave it. The blinking only happens when I close the lid or when I select the Sleep option under the Apple logo. Is that normal behavior?

MacBook Pro :: Goes Into Safe Sleep Instead Of (standard) Sleep

Sep 7, 2014

Recently I've started connecting my 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (pre-unibody) Macbook Pro 17" to an external monitor (via DVI).

Since then my computer goes into Safe Sleep instead of Sleep (it's plugged into power).

This is an annoyance I'd rather avoid because even if all programs relaunch:I have to wait for them to launch (longer)Programs like Excel seem to have been quit in an unorthodox fashion: when it starts back up I get an error notice that it was shutdown inappropriately & the doc which reopens is a rescued version of the doc I had open before the safe sleep.

OS X :: How To Permanently Disable Safe Sleep & Sleep Image File Creation?

In tiger you could easily disable safe sleep and remove the sleep image file but in Leopard this seems to have changed. Yes you can disable safe sleep & remove sleep image files but only temporarily. As soon as you restart or change energy settings back to default, leopard automatically reverts the safe sleep settings to default and starts creating an image file again

Is there no way to permanently disable/remove these?

OS X :: MBP Won't Automatically Sleep Display Or Go To Sleep?

May 8, 2010

I have a late 2008 15" MBP, and I often leave it playing videos while I go to sleep. Lately, it's stopped sleeping the display and/or going to sleep (depending on whether something's downloading in the background) after the video is finished, which is quite annoying as the screensaver's glare normally wakes me up in the middle of the night (and it's probably not too good for the display either).

Before a few weeks ago, it would quite happily sleep the display a few minutes after the video (in Front Row or otherwise) finished playing, but it's now consistently ignoring the sleep and display sleep settings (which are all correct). I even set the display sleep timer to 1 minute, waited without anything happening in the background, but nothing happens.

Anyone have any idea how to get the timers to work again?
