MacBook Pro :: Hard Drive Listed In The Link Below Work
Sep 6, 2010
I'm very shortly going to purchase a 13" MacBook pro.I was just wondering, will the hard drive listed in the link below work with my new MacBook pro 13"au/ws/eBayISAPI....:X:AAQ:AU:1123Naturally, I would be installing it myself, and since I'd be doing it straight away, I don't think I have to worry about backing up and etc. Now, if it does work, what is this particular hard drive like in terms of performance in comparison to the default hard drive that would be coming with the MacBook pro?

It won't start at all or it starts and works really slowly at first. Like the processor would work million times slower, almost like just hangs jammed. Sometimes after hours of trying to get it started, it will start and work normally again for a long time. But when I shut it off or put it to sleep, again it's nearly impossible to get it started again.
The Disk Utility said, that there's an hard drive error "invalid sibling link". I booted from the OS X installation CD and did the repair, but it said it couldn't repair it. Then I did this fix: [URL]. But again it said the same error. Then I booted normally and checked the Verify Disk again and to my suprise it is now saying the hard drive is OK. But it still has the same problem! It just is having really difficult time waking up.

(i7 27" iMac/256GB SSD + 1TB of internal disk hard drive. (SATA/7200rpm/3.5"))The 1TB internal hard drive on my iMac failed the S.M.A.R.T. Utilities test so Apple called in the computer and I had to have the hard drive replaced. The technicians reloaded the system from a 1TB external Western Digital hard drive; I had backed up the everything on it using Time Machine.
Unfortunately, the iTunes application cannot now locate my iTunes library. I create a lot of slideshows on Aperture and use music from iTunes on the audio tracks. The titles on the audio tracks are now inaudible and are preceded by a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark inside.
how I should re-establish the original link between iTunes and its library. The music files are located in folders (name of artists), within a folder (iTunes Music), within a folder (iTunes), within a folder (Music), within a folder (declangreaney) on the 1TB of internal disk drive. In trying to solve the problem, I went through the folders and double clicked on one song. This opened iTunes so I highlighted and dragged all the other 'artist-named' folders on the iTunes interface and in doing so, I succeeded in accessing all the files.

I bought a WD 320 Gig 5400 RPM hard drive for my new White NVIDIA MacBook. I stuck it in an external casing, copied everything to it with the "restore" feature, and swapped out the hard drives. I rebooted the computer with the new hard drive, and it didn't work. I did some hard drive swapping last year on my old MacBook and everything was a breeze. I don't know what I did wrong this time.

I am going to buy a used MacBook Pro from a friend. The internal hard drive doens't work so they have OSX running from an external hard drive. I want to replace the internal hard drive with a new one but the person I am buying it from says that the Conection between the Motherboard and hard drive is messed up. Is there a connection between the Hard drive and motherboard that I can replace?

I have a western digital hard drive that had previously been working flawlessly on Lion, however when using it with Mavericks it had suddenly stopped working meaning it would no longer be found on the desktop or in finder. I have been using the hard drive as a time machine backup. the obvious next step was to launch disk utility and look for a solution. I have found there two hard drive names in disk utility, the first is the HDD name of Western Digital and the second is the "Time Machine" partition. Running first aid on the partition resulted in an error and that the disk could not be repaired. This HDD is important and the data cannot be lost.

I have a new SSD which I am trying to use instead of my HDD.I have looked at options such as cloning softwares (CCC, SuperDuper, etc) but people seem to recommend doing a clean install of the OS and everything else. That said, if I manage to install OS X and the Applications CD to my new SSD, could I then boot into the SSD via USB Hard Drive Encloser, and copy my data over from my HDD?If not, what other methods could I use to effectively copy over my applications and files over to my new hard drive?ALSO,What will I be missing on my new SSD by using Migration Assistant? Any program data? Finally, will my registered applications have to be re-registered? Meaning if I had used a serial for these programs, will I have to re-enter all of that stuff, or will everything be the same?

We have i-Mac 20" with built in i-sight Power PC, one of last ones I think before the intel. We have had a few problems before with it powering down and going to sleep. Used to hoover dust out and that seemed to fix it.
Now it won't start at all. I have tried all the PRAM and various commands to re set various things but none of these work. We had a wireless keyboard and I have just tried a wired one but I do not think either are connecting as the tab key light does not come on, which it does when I tested the wired on on my lap top.
When it died it crashed with a cd in drive. I have removed this and replaced it with the mac install disk to try and run the disk check but the optical drive is not starting at all either.
All that happens on start up is the sleep light comes on, then after a few moments fan starts to whirl. I can't hear the hard drive - have tried to rock hard drive to get it to spin but nothing.
Just wondering whether worth trying to replace optical drive or is this being controlled by hard drive - hence its not working nor hard drive. is there any way to recover data if it is the hard drive that is dead? anything else I can try and replace to fix it? could I use an external optical drive connected via USB to start?
I have tried to firewire but not joy their either!

but I have a Mac Pro 2008 that when I verify disk, I get an error saying I need to start up from the OS X install disc and run disk utility on it to fix errors. I've done that, it says it fixes errors, but back in the OS, it will give me same error again and say I need to run disk utility from the install disc.
So, my question is, I can reinstall the OS from my Snow Leopard disc, but I really don't want to... it's my freelance machine and I don't want to have to reinstall all of my applications (that can take years to install all discs, updates and media), scripts, plug-ins, media archives, etc.
Any advice on a way to fix disk errors like this without having to go back to all your install discs? I'm at work now so I can't remember the exact disk error, but I can post tonight if this can better direct me to a specific program/procedure that might help. I also haven't tried verifying disk from another admin account... which I can also try... just figured it seemed like a system-wide problem.

My iMac is slowing down and I wanted to upgrade the RAM and upgrade to Snow Leopard from Tiger. Here are the specs:
Version 10.4.11
Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory: 1GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
I want to back it up before I upgrade to Snow Leopard. What external hard drive do you recommend? The only things that I want to put on it are my pictures from iPhoto and music from iTunes. I have 12GBs of music and 1,109 pictures in iPhoto. Also, how do I go about getting these things onto the external hard drive? Will it mount on the desktop and then I just drag my files into it?

OK, I read about formatting Fat 32 to transfer files. I will try it tomorrow. My other question has to do with using this for backup. it is a 750 hard drive and I was wondering if I should do anything special if I want to use it for both Timeline and video storage separate from timeline.

which external hard drive (for backup purposes) or empty hard drive enclosure (so I can buy my own drive and install) to get for an iMac, which meets the following criteria:
- has Firewire 800 (or Firewire 800 and USB 2)
- stylish to look at (preferably matches the current iMac)
- has a good quality, reliable hard drive (no cheapo Maxtor drive or whatever)
- preferably is bus-powered (saves yet another wall-wart and power cable)
If it comes with a drive mechanism it should be around 400 to 500 GB.

I just bought a new 160GB hard drive for my imac G3. I know that you have to format it to get the computer to recognize it but i don't know how you do this and when I try to insert my Mac OS X install disk it just comes up with installer and when I try to quit installer it only lets you restart. So my question is, how do you format a new hard drive (160GB) on an iMac g3 to get it to recognize it?

I'm praying someone can give me a miracle cure here but im pretty sure its a terminal case. i have a 24inch iMac 2.66ghz core 2 duo and a western digital 1tb external usb hard drive....this hard drive was bought a month or so ago with the sole purpose of store years and years of media to free up valuable space on my iMac hard drive....tonight without any warning at all the drive icon disappears from my desktop with an error message and now refuses to load, when i click initialise on the error dialogue box it takes me to disk utility.
in disk utility i have tried repairing disk and i get the message "invalid node structure". it then tells me it cannot be repaired and i need to re-format my hard drive.
as i said there is literally YEARS of info on this drive that i really really dont want to lose, is there anything i can do, or anything worth trying. as a side note on the front of the drive it has a capacity gauge and has gone from 3/4's full to not showing anything.

I upgraded my harddrive this weekend. Here is how I did it:
1.) replaced the hard drive in my laptop
2.) Loaded Leopard onto the new hard drive
3.) Connected my old drive in an enclosure as an external drive
4.) Used the migration assistant to migrate my profile and files from the old drive.
Everything is good, but spotlight doesn't work well. It misses tons of stuff that IS there. I think the drive needs to be re-indexed?

I am looking to buy an external hard drive for my intel Mac and MacBook Pro to download and save some 8,000 plus photos. My computers only have USB 2 connections. I am finding that most new external hard drives have USB 3 connections. Can I use an external hard drive with a USB 3 connection on my older Mac computers? If so do I need an adapter to connect USB 3 to USB 2?
