Feb 18, 2010Recently spotlight froze and I deleted the Pref files for it in hopes it would solve it (IDK why I didn't shut down). But now as they are gone I can no longer search for Apps via Spotlight and it is killing me having to go to the folder and search

There are many people out here who create a lot of posts asking about what kind of app are good and what do they do ?. There are dozens of videos on youtube on whats in your doc (most of which are outdated).
Honestly I think if people could share what software they have on their macs (both free and payed), with a description of what is does, would help thousands of new mac owners. I looked through the topic on the very top with software recommendations, but it does look a bit dull with only 13 replies that point you to websites where you get bombarded by the insane quantity of software listed there with no proper advice.
I will list my software tomorrow once I get my MBP from repair.

I have and use Appleworks still, which has the handy feature by Option-Clicking anywhere you want the floating text, but am looking for something a little more future proof.
I downloaded Bean and iText Express, but I could not find that sweet feature in those apps.

May 30, 2012Under purchases I'm getting "you have not purchased any apps." Under Itunes in the Cloud all my apps are listed as hidden but when I click "view hidden purchases" it says I do not have any hidden purchases. I have three Macs and all are experiencing the same issue so this is an account problem and not a computer software problem. The funny thing is that it's still recognizing updates.Yes, I've tried signing out and back in to view my account with no luck. The only thing I did weird last night was I disabled the Itunes store and automatic downloading on one computer. This morning when I had the above problem I put all the settings back.

Feb 21, 2009I have no idea what happened. it was working fine last week, and then the other day I tried to open up iMovie and i get "The operation could not be completed / An unexpected error occurred (error code -10810)" This happens every time i try to open anything in my applications folder. the programs on my dock open up fine.

IMac :: Lost My Apps Folder On Dock But Apps Are There?
Dec 18, 2009I have a new 21.5" iMac and have been playing around with everything. When I started two weeks ago I had an Apps folder with the Apps logo on the dock to the right of the dotted separation. All the applications are there lined up with the first application showing but for my consternation I cannot put the Applications in there folder like it was when I started out two weeks ago. This is the Snow Leopard OS.

May 10, 2012When you sync your iPhone you sometimes get the following message:
Itunes has found purchased items on the iphone thats arenot present in your itunes library.
There are two reasons for this:
1. I have deleted apps in iTunes that I don't want, but not on the iPhone. I don't want to transfer the apps back to iTunes because I want them gone.
2. I have bought apps on the iPhone that I do want to keep. I want these transferred to iTunes.
So if I have both types 1 and 2 then there is no good answer. Preferably iTunes should offer to sync and choose which apps to transfer and what not to transfer. Is there a way to change this behaviour? By the time I sync I don't know what I've done so I'm usually not sure how to answer the question. Sometimes I like to bulk delete apps in iTunes--it is easier than doing it on the iPhone.

Sep 24, 2010I have been using Mac for quite a while and I've always deleted apps just one way. But I never knew it was officially the 'right' way to uninstall things...
This is what I do:
I go to the app that I want to delete, right click on it and click on 'show package contents', then i just delete the whole "contents" folder. The desktop icon goes white so I just drag it to the trash and that's it!
Is this the right way to uninstall? Or does this cause small files to still linger somewhere on my computer?
MacBook Pro :: How To Move OS And Apps To SSD
Nov 7, 2010I'm THIS close to putting an SSD in my optical bay, and using it for the OS and applications, and will leave all of my data on my HDD. The problem is that my HDD is 600Gb that's about 400Gb full, and I'm looking at a 128 or even 256Gb SSD. Since the SSD is smaller than the HDD, I can't just do a full recovery to the SSD then move data files to the HDD.
My question is, what is the right way to migrate all of the OS files and applications to a different drive, while leaving everything else on the HDD?
OS X :: Macbook Not Downloading Some Apps
Nov 11, 2010I got a Macbook about a year ago and it would only download certain things (ie. skype, Mozilla Firefox). The other things (ie. DND online, vindictus nexon, pretty much any game I want to play that requires me to download a client) will only show me a text edit document with a bunch of symbols and letters. It wasn't that much of an issue before, but now I'm getting a tad irritated by it.
