how the stock drives fare against the newer ones on the market, but to sum it up I would like a drive that:Is at least (around) twice as bigIs at least as energy efficient, preferably betters a little fasterI've been trying to research it on my own, but I just ended up feeling like there was such a cacophony of drives out there, and I couldn't always find all the information

I was using the assistant manager does this mean i need to download the whole thing again or is in in a cache memory folder? Some of the applications have installed and some are have not. What is the best way to clean this up? Do I delete all the files and start again? Is there a cache folder with a file i can click to continue the download?

I have a new macbook pro and I would like to have access to my old files and pictures that were on my old computer. I backed up my older mac onto an external hardrive using timemachine. Can I access those files without "downloading" it all onto my new computer? If so, how? If I can't, do I just need to get a new external hardrive and manually copy those files onto it from my old computer? I still have it and it is still working, just slowly.Â
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy mbp of 4 years had been dragging over the last year since I upgraded to lion. I'd read a fresh reload could possibly fix it. I backed everything up and got some advice from this forum as what to do next. Now I'm stuck. Â
I've tried reloading lion twice using wifi and letting it sit for 4 hours each. Then I tried plugging it directly into the ethernet and let it sit for 8 hours. All three times I'm met with the spinning wheel and it hanging at "loading installion information" and no indicator if its working or what might be wrong. Â
I've erased my hard drive, I've verified the HD is still good but now I'm not sure what's left to do or what I'm not doing. in the DU filed I have 160gb fujitsu hd, below that lists the name of my partition, below that is the super drive (but its greyed out) then below all of that under a line there's a Disk 1 and under that is the max os x base. I'm assuming that's the lion boot information. Â

Someone was messing with my Power Book 2400 and moved an OS file from its library location. Now I can't shut it down. So it looks like I need to reinstall the OS. I have the disk but it's a CD. This little guy only takes floppies -- via external drive. I've looked on eBay, but no floppy version of the OS. What do I do now?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently got a new MacBook Pro, and I successfully transferred all of my information onto my new computer from my old MacBook. I also bought a new external hard drive. I used Time Machine to back it all up. It says that it transferred everything, but all I can see are the Applications. I want to be sure that I have it backed up in two places before I erase my old hard drive and sell my old computer.

it does not back up only my internal drive, but also two external drives. However, I have noticed something. The one external drive I unplug sometimes to use somewhere else. When I do this and go into time machine, that drive no longer appears in the history.

Computer: Mac Mini, 2009 or so, 160 GB HD (about 50 available), Yosemite.
Issue: Set up a separate user and trying to import information from a Mac Book that is having issues. Mac Book was backed up to an external HD via Time Machine
Question: Is it possible to use time machine to transfer some of the information (photos, music, files) from the external hard drive to the Mac Mini? Is it possible to extract the information from the hard drive by connecting it to the Mac Mini without using Time Machine?
I just ordered a new MBP 13.3' and I'm trying to figure out what is the best way to move my existing Leopard installation (White Core Duo Macbook), along with all my files.
Instead of migrating however, I want to swap my existing hard drive to the one of my new Macbook Pro since it's a 320Gb 7200rpm drive.
Is this going to work if I just drop in my old hard drive to my new MBP?
After I installed maverick on my imac, my time machine backups don't work anymore!!!! I have a normal portable HDD attached to my Imac with time capsule backup from before mavericks was installed.I also has a Buffalo NAS as a second Time Machine Backup. Â
Time capsule does not recognise my Buffalo NAS and tells me that it is not available. It has previous backups from Mountain Lion for sure!My portable HDD keeps saying "Preparing for backup" for eternity. I can connect to my portable HDD and Buffalo NAS as a drive.  What I have been doing is to copy and paste the important stuff into the drives. But it really defeats the purpose of time machine.
I moved at the beginning of the month. Got internet transferred on the 12th. Internet has been acting funny for about 3 weeks (yes, starting a few days before the move). Time Machine has been doing fine for this whole time. Suddenly, last night, while on the internet, a message about Airport and Time Machine popped up. It was late, so I closed my computer with the intention of fixing it this morning. Opened book this morning to find no airport signal, no network with my name on it, no connection to Time Machine, can't locate all of my backups, can no longer finish a backup...

I have reviewed notes regarding selective app restore method and am aware that there are issues assossiated with failed apps since the original app installer installs files in various libraries and system settings..My backed up Mac contains rogue programs such as the programming app python 3 and various rogue bugs and system settings
1 Does a full restore reset all backed up system settings or does it keep the fresh installation and include all your apps and settings such as mail accounts mail folders documents pictures movies podcasts etc without the bugs
2 Should the answer to 1 be a yes all compromised settings will be restored, then will I have issues with installing VMware fusion as its an encripted integrated app that I keep all my master business applications but store documents in the Mac documents area
Other factors
1 My accounting tax business has been hacked over and over again for the last 7 months from start of tax season
2 I have lost 50% of my clients due to the interruptions and been hospitalized twice from sitting on the computer for extended hours and days reinstalling fresh system and restoring Mac documents only, 3 times over, as well as trying to learn everything about best practice, hacks etc
3 I'm using fire vault 2 however the time machine backup is not encripted are there any potential problems with either of the two methods?
4 I will be using a proxy server when I next build the Mac will this be enough to mitigate potential security breach using the full time machine restore method?
5 I have many apps that I have not purchased through the app center and have not kept the keys and will be a headache to get all my details
6 what implications are there as far as the prior keychain access is consurned? How does that get restored?
What is the most effective and efficient method to restore from time machine given above scenario?

I seem to be rather confused after reading so many websites which say its possible to install windows 7 upgrade over xp by custom install in bootcamp.
I purchased a windows 7 upgrade which I have downloaded as a ".img" file.
However, bootcamp doesnt recognize my .img disc.
I have tried converting the .img to a .iso, and then burning the .iso as a iso disc, but still no luck. (Im not sure if its because of Active iso software Im using to burn the discs or if im doing something wrong.)
I have a legit version of XP already running via bootcamp.
I have noticed that my Time Machine-backups are quite big. 1+GB a day is not unheard of. How can I tell what data Time Machine is backing up, so I could determine where all that data is coming from? I don't download all that much stuff (no P2P for example), so I have no idea where it gets all that data to back up. Is there a tool I could use for this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Powerbook Power PC G4 (1.5) running 10.4.11. I want to update to Leopard. I don't know how to find out if my machine is UFS formatted. I assume the update would have to be done by Mac technicians if it is?
I also read something about speed affecting whether the G4 can run Leopard. Is that bus speed (Mine is currently 167 MHz) or CPU speed (mine is 1.5 GHz)? If it is bus speed, can it be increased enough?
Where can i find the time machine password?

I use a TC for wireless backup at home. When I return home after being away, Time Machine usually finds the TC and resumes its routine. Now this doesn't work any more. Even though the TC appears in the sidebar and is recognized by Airport Utility, when I select "Back Up Now" I get a message saying "the backup disk couldn't be found". I recently updated the OS to 10.7.4.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got my Mac back from a repair at the Apple Store. I was very excited to have everything back. However, Time Machine cannot back up! The error given is that the backup volume "cannot be found."
I've tried rebooting, remounting the drive and doing checks on it. Everything checks out. I can even write and read to and from the backup volume just fine via Finder. The only issue is that Time Machine can't. What's the problem? How do I fix it?
Attached is a screenshot of my Finder window next to the Time Machine Sys Prefs window.
I copied my itunes folder and in the process I have lost a few songs. I want to find them on time machine? as I have re installed the software on my make I can open prev back ups; ut song was not i itunes music. It still shows on itunes list and asks if I want to find it? I cant.
How do I search for it in spotlight?
I just had a second hard drive replaced on my Macbook pro which I have had a little over a year. After the first HD replacement I purchased a WD external drive to back time machine to. Time machine was set up to back up VM to Mac HD and then back Mac HD up to time machine. I am pretty much tech illiterate when it comes to restoring. I have managed to restore the Mac side of the computer, get the VM(Fusion) installed and also installed Windows. For the life of me I cannot find my Windows files. From all I have read there is a chance there may not be any files but I would like to make sure before I begin the long process of rebuilding.
