MacBook Pro :: Best Option For Transferring Only The Photos (no Other Data) To The New Laptop?
Dec 11, 2014
I just bought a new macbook, but have a ton of photos stored on my old mac. What would be the best option for transferring only the photos (no other data) to the new macbook? Migration assistant or just manually with an external hard drive?

I have a powermac g5, and I use time machine with it. If I sell the G5 and keep the external time machine drive, can I just connect the time machine drive to my new mini and get everything back? I want to get everything back, including apps, files etc. Can I just drag everything off the external drive and copy it all to my mini?

I bought a new laptop yesterday. I upgraded from a Macbook to Macbook pro last night. Despite the fact I got home close to midnight and had to be up for 0430 for work, I just couldn't let this new machine sit in the box it was sitting there asking me to open the content. Me being the obedient women that I am I had to follow my heart.I opened the laptop, powered it, looked at it, admired my new lighted keypad and....went to bed. So my issue is this. Now that I have turn the computer on once now, how do I transfer all the content of my old laptop onto the new one? what do I look up to make the transfer?

I'm a new Mac user, and new to this forum, Just wanted to ask a quick question about connecting my new macbook to my TV.
I connected it up no probs and have sound aswell - but can I shut my Laptop lid, and have access to the computer? I have movies in iTunes that I want to watch, whilst they are displayed perfectly on my TV, my laptop is kinda in the way and distracting whilst watching the TV.
Is there an option in Settings where I can close the laptop up, but still have it running, rather than going to sleep?
I own a bluetooth mighty mouse and keyboard so I will still be able to control the macbook....I just want to shut the lid whilst watching films, etc.

I have just moved from a windows 7 based laptop to Macbook Pro with OSxLion.
1: I put my 2gb brand new SD Card in the slot and up it comes as a crd icon with the label No Name.I try and transfer photos from my MacBook to the card so that I may take them to the shop and put the card in thier machine and print them off.No Joy! I cannot drag or paste anything to the card!I have been to disc utilities to format to what I do not know but anyway the only thing I can do is verify, everything else is grayed out.
2: I did manage to transfer some of my photos to a USB stick, but when I went to the shop and put said USB into the machine the stick was not recognized!

I recently bought a Canon Power Shot. I have used it and transferred photos to my Mac and didnt have any problems. Now all of a sudden, I turned it on, to import the pictures to the computer, and the camera just turns itself off and the Mac says no camera detected ! I dont know if this is a problem with the camera or the Mac. The camera works fine when actually taking pictures.

I am attempting to transfer photos from my iPad to my Mac Air. These photos were downloaded from 2 different cameras but my problem is that not all photos are moving across to the Mac Air. Is the only solution to go back to the source and download again from the cameras or there an easier way?

I have already received some help from macdog about my future mac HD, but I was wondering about transfering some data from my pc. I am only wanting to transfer a couple gigs of videos, but I don't know the best way to do it. I thought about using ethernet connection to achieve this, but I am not the best with network stuff like that.

I recently bought a second hand mac from ebay and it was pretty empty. There are some settings still from the previous user.
My old mac's backlight has died and the only way to use it is to link it up to my tv.
I have tried using the Migration assistant via WI-FI and ethernet cable and both haven't worked.
I'm considering taking the hard drive out of the mac and using it as an external hard drive. There are a couple of programs i've tried to download but dont work and i'd really like my firefox settings back!
I was also wondering if i was able to take the RAM from the old mac and install it in the new mac?

We are transferring files from our old mac to our new and we bought a firewire cable. But we didn't get the option and it just started to do it wirelessly, which appears to be going to take about 12 hours. Does anyone know if you can connect the firewire cable in the middle of it transferring, or should we just wait for it to finish it wirelessly?

I have a stock Macbook Pro 17in i5 laptop. I just got a new hard drive. I just did a time machine backup (to an external hard drive) of everything on my computer before i switch out the old drive to a new SSD OWC...Is this enough of a back up to where once i get the new SSD drive in i simply go to the time machine and it will put everything back the way i had it on the old hard drive correct? Or is there another step i need to take to make sure i transfer all of my data safely. I cant find my parallels product key nor my Microsoft word product key so i was wondering is this going to be an issue on the new hard drive? will the computer ask for the keys or since i backed everything up in time machine will it come back like normal.

I have just upgraded to a new MacBook Pro from my very Old MacBook, but it was running latest version of Snow leopard. I first tried the set up assistant to transfer all my Information from Time Machine Back up to New MacBook pro. This seemed to work fine except Mail.
Mail launches says that it is transferring my e-mails (11,000+) this runs OK, then it says that I am going to be upgraded and the little box says "Migrating data", this just runs and runs and basically nothing happens and I can't run Mail.
My iCloud is configured and this is all working from the web, also it is working fine on my iPhone 4s. I have also tried creating a Test account deleting the origional transferred account (my old Computer) then instead of using the Wizard I used the Migration assistant. This has basically done the same as the above.

My trusty 6 year old mac book crashed. Took it to apple, they couldn't recover. Purchased new 15 mac book pro with 1TB. drive. Removed my HD from the old mac book and trying to transfer files via sata cable to USB directly to my new mac. Been successful with lots of files. Problem is, new mac shows old file icons from Applications, library, users, etc. but not contents. I tried copying entire hard drive... Wont work.
Then went into users, from my main folder with most of my saved stuff. The largest two folders I want to recover is the Documents folder and the Images folder. I cant open and see the files inside because for over 24 hours now it has been showing "Preparing to copy files". When I went to the images folder after about 6 hours it went from preparing, to copying with estimated time of 6 days to complete. If I could see the contents in the folders, I could simply just transfer the main Items needed?

I had a drive go bad on my G5 desktop. Luckily I am all backed up on my G4 LAPTOP. I put a new drive in the G5 & installed OS 10.5 (the G4 lap runs 10.4) and installed the apps from the original discs onto the new G5 drive. However, I am missing my Photoshop CS2 disc. My question is, how do I transfer Photoshop CS 2 from my laptop to the new G5 drive? I don't want to buy another $200 CS2 app.

both my MacBook and my time machine backups just got destroyed by the water sprinkers coming on. All I have left is the data on my iPhone. I keep all my iPhoto, music, contacts, calandar, and bookmarks on my phone. How will I transfer them to my new computer (even if it is a paid program, I REALLY need to keep this data. Also, how will I keep my new computer from deleting everything on my phone, ESPECIALLY my text messages, when I sync it for the first time? Again, a paid program would be fine because I REALLY need to keep this data

My previous computer was an HP Pavilion laptop, in which died on me few months ago. The graphics card died and it was built into the motherboard, so I had to replace the whole motherboard. A) Money wise it wasn't worthed B) It was 2 years old.
Now the laptop still works, just doesn't show anything on the screen, but in the background its actually working. So the files from the hard drive are still there. The only way I used to get the screen viewable was by connecting my laptop to another monitor and go into safe mode. The laptop has 2 hard drives. And the files weren't on the primary but on the secondary built-in hard drive. The operating system I was using was Windows Vista.
I've just bought a new iMac, and wish to try find a way were I can transfer the files into my iMac.

Going on a business trip, taking laptop. Have Comcast, POP service only. Don't want emails to accumulate on my home computer while I'm gone. If I delete the accounts from my desktop and set them up on the (borrowed) laptop, what happens to the many emails I've saved to folders on my desktop. Don't want to lose those....

Recently my macbook pro was being fussy, and eventually failed to boot (get grey screen with apple and load bar, but doesn't completely load before shutting down). I did a recovery boot and tried to repair the disc, which didn't work.
I would like to pull all of the User data (music) off of the old hard drive-and move to an external hard drive- before erasing and reformatting (might not be the correct term). I am currently running 10.9.4 mavericks and optical drive pooped out a while ago.

I always use iPhoto to upload my pictures from my devices, Ive noticed that all the photos are stored under a single fumnail in photos.
If I wanted to transfer these photos to windows how would I separate all the pictures into the format windows views them in, so individual files. Also if i wanted to transfer to another mac do I just move the fumnail?
Also how do I go about transferring music?
