MacBook Pro :: Battery Is Draining Very Quickly

Jun 24, 2014

-Model Name: MacBook Pro
-Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
-Memory: 4 GB
-OS X Version 10.9.3

When starting up it must be connected to the charger and when i turn it on it makes the bing noise, goes to the apple screen with the wheel turning for a second and shuts off. I have to do this multiple times until it works. Another issue that I am having is that the battery is draining very quickly. I just had it replaced a couple months ago.

MacBook Pro :: Battery Healthy But Draining Quickly

Oct 23, 2010

I bought my Macbook Pro 13 inch last year in August. The health is on 88% with 84 cycles. Original battery capacity 5450 maH, current battery capacity 4809 mAH (Coconut and Istat Nano). I just read in another thread that there are users who have higher health capacity with many more cycles! I took it to the Mac store in Bangkok two weeks ago since I believe that my battery drains quickly. They run a test and told me that my battery is healthy. Then they also downloaded some updates for my Mac and run disk repair under disk utility. The technician told me that these are heavy programs and if they battery drains very quickly there is something wrong.

But according to him this was not the case. I have a 500 gb hdd and the technician said that since this is a big hdd (he recommended 320 gb maximum for 13 inch macbookpro), it will use more battery usage. I don't use heavy programs, only internet (Facebook, gmail, very seldom watch movies, watch news papers), Itunes and sometimes Word. I do a lot of photo processing, but this I always do with my adaptor plugged in. I think I can only use around 3 hours. Sometimes 4 hours. Screen around 80% brightness. Keyboard lights, bluetooth turned off. Do you think that there is a problem with my battery? Oh and I do calibrate my laptop monthly.

MacBook Pro :: Battery Draining Quickly And Fan Constantly Running?

Apr 18, 2012

The last couple of days my battery has been draining extremely quickly, at full charge it indicates that I will get about 2 hours battery life when previously I was getting 6 to 7 depending on what I was doing. Also, I have noticed that the fan is running almost constantly and at high. I'm running os x lion and this is a late 2011 model MBP 13".

MacBook Pro :: Battery Draining Really Fast?

Mar 30, 2012

Recently I've been noticing that my MacBook Pro's battery has been draining really fast.  It's draining about 5% every 7 minutes.  The battery condition is normal and it only has about 290 cycles on it.  My brightness is turned all the way down, bluetooth is off and the only application I have open is Google Chrome, and I'm only using it to do some light browsing.  Does anyone have this same problem? I have a MacBook Pro (mid-2010) running the latest version of Lion?

MacBook Air :: ITunes Draining Battery Life?

Jan 8, 2011

I have recently started using iTunes to listen to music while surfing the web or using other non intensive programs such as Inkscape. It appears that iTunes decreases my battery life considerably more than any other program that I use, even if I have a song on pause. While using iTunes my fully charged battery will display 4 to 3.5 hours of life remaining. When I have iTunes closed my computer will display a battery life of 7 to 9 hours, often with usage times the exceed that. Has anyone had similar experiences with iTunes and poor battery life, or am I doing something wrong here?

P.S. I have already calibrated my battery.

MacBook Pro :: 13" Battery Draining While On AC Power?

Jun 24, 2010

The title says it all, basically my MBP's battery drains even if the computer is plugged. When I sat at my desk to use my MBP earlier today I noticed the battery was charging. That seemed very weired, I was sure it was at 98% last night. I decided to switch my computer off and let it charge all the way up.

When I turnt on my computer again i checked the battery and everything seemed normal, but after half an hour or so I noticed that my battery status icon had chaged from charged to not charging. I loaded up Coconut battery and the battery was slightly over 90%...and it's still draining out while tipyng... The AC socket is fine and I have an HDTV connected to the same power source. Needless to say the tv is working normally... I do not have an Apple shop nearby, the closest is over 200 km (approximately 140 miles) away.

MacBook Pro :: Battery Draining While Plugged In And Idle?

Mar 9, 2012

This morning I set to work on my laptop as usual. I typically leave it plugged in while not moving around, and today was no exception. I h ave a 15" macbook I purchased in December of 2010, and it's currently running OS X 10.6.8, if that makes a difference.

Anyhow, when I started up my Macbook and set to work, the battery was fully charged (indicator read that it was fully charge, and that the power source was the power adapter). The power adapter light was green. I then stood up and did some work for roughly 2 hours away from the laptop. When Ieft, I put the display to sleep - In the background the machine was still running a webbrowser (reading an all-text page) and preview (a PDF was open). This is nothing out of the oridinary, and I do it all the time usually.

What was unusual was when I returned to my machine after 2 hours of idling (with the display asleep)  to find that my battery had been almost completely drained. The power adapter light was now orange, and the indicator showed that the battery was only 4% charged. The power source was still displayed as the power adapter.

I understand that during intense processses the Macbook will draw from the battery AND the power adapter - But my Macbook was simply idling! I can't fathom that a webbrowser and Preview would require THAT much draw for power. In fact, I've run my Macbook MUCH more intensely for much longer periods of time when running Final Cut and Adobe After Effects and NEVER seen this issue before.

Is this an indication of a failing battery? Ever since I noticed this, the charging time indicated has held steady at ~1:13 (that's been about a half an hour now). I don't know if the Macbook will discharge the battery completely every so often by itself, or if the battery is just failing and that's why it went from 100% to 4% in just under two hours while idle.

MacBook Pro :: Early 2011 Battery Draining Too Fast?

Jul 4, 2012

After installing the update for Mac OS (10.7.4) my battery starts too drain too fast. As usual after 100% charge my laptop showing me time near 5 or 6 hours. Of course I understand that this number is relevant, but i always get this numbers when using not so heavy apps (Safari, Mail, Pages, Twitter and iTunes), but now i can see only 2 or 3 hours. After long searches i found the problem. My MacBook Pro 15 inch have problem with graphic-card changing, it always changes to AMD Radeon card when I start Twitter or Reader! I think that Twtitter is not so heavy app that must use diskrete grpahic-card. And because I always run Twitter in background my MacBook Pro's battery drains in a few hours.

MacBook Pro :: 13" Battery (capacity Of 5393 MAh Out Of 5770 MAh) Draining MUCH Faster

Jan 7, 2011

It shows a battery capacity of 5393 mAh out of 5770 mAh with a condition of "normal" at 93% health. The issue is that the battery has been draining MUCH faster than usual. Yeah I know it depends on what I'm doing/Youtube/Flash blah blah blah. I get it. What usually took 6-8 hours of normal time to drain is now taking 2 hours, max. I reset the PRAM, etc --- not much different. Now, here's the BIG issue. I have NEVER been able to recalibrate my battery because after it hits 10-15%, the computer just shuts off. It never goes into sleep. This has happened every single time. Has this ever happened to anyone before? The Apple Store is ways away, and I don't want to waste time going if they're just going to tell me my battery is "normal" since I haven't hit my 80% health indicator.

App Store :: Lion Draining MacBook Battery - Can Install It On A Different Users IMac

Jun 13, 2012

Several weeks ago I upgraded my mother's MacBook to Lion. I had also intended to buy lion for myself but my iMac's hard drive died.Since Lion was installed the MacBook's battery life has been very, very poor - even booting up can cost 5%. A lot of people gave been discussing this. I have googled this issue and emailed Apple, but there seems to be no solution on the horizon. So I am going to reinstall Snow Leopard on the MacBook.  I had intended to contact Apple to see if a refund would be possible. However, just yesterday I replaced the hard drive in my iMac and it is working fine now. So I was wondering since I paid for the Lion OS, is okay for me to install it on my iMac rather than attempt to get a refund. Is that legal? And would it work? Would the fact that it was bought using my mother's AppleID (my money though ;)) mean that if I install it on my iMac it will make my computer my morher's computer - meaning my morher's login and details will overwrite mine?

MacBook Pro :: Draining Battery Due To WD5000BEKT 500GB Scorpio Black 7200 RPM Hard Drive?

Nov 26, 2010

I installed the hard drive with no problem and have experienced greater performance, no clicking nor vibration, and no freezeup or rainbow wheel. I also did a clean install of Snow Leopard. I did a PRAM reset at the beginning and calibrated my battery. However, now I noticed my battery is draining FAST, only lasting 2 hours. I looked a little online and discovered I may still need to reset the SMC (shift-control-option + power key), which I will do shortly. The battery lasted 6-7 hours before with my old hdd and is at 96% capacity.

MacBook Pro :: Options To Quickly Discharge The Battery

Apr 22, 2010

I'm trying to calibrate the battery of my new MBP. I need to get the battery to fully discharge and sleep for five hours or more. What are some things I can do to get my battery to discharge more quickly? Do I need to tell the MBP to not go to sleep after 10 mins of non-use, or the battery might last through the night? Or is it just the display that sleeps? I'd like to be able to use my MBP in the morning, but I'd like to make sure I get at least the recommended 5 hours of dead battery.

MacBook Pro :: Why Is Battery Dying So Quickly - It Has Only 94 Cycles

May 23, 2012

My MacBook Pro is 1 year old, almost to the day and my battery seems to be loosing all it's juice quite quickly these days. The battery cycle count is only 94. This morning I turned my computer on and I've only done emails. It's now about 4 hours since it's been on and I have 20% battery left. Bluetooth is turned off. Not doing anything any different than I used to. Seems to me the battery used to last 4 days for what I do with the computer. Now I charge it 2 or 3 times a day. I notice the underside of the laptop seems to get quite hot.

MacBook Air :: Temperature Fluctuates Quickly - Rev B?

Jun 16, 2009

I just ran a quicktime movie trailer and it immediately went to 81C. I have also noticed that the temp fluctuates very quickly, from 49C to 63C within 10 seconds when just surfing macrumors when I look at istat pro. So how hot does you MBA rev B get? Mine is a 1.86 SSD version and even though the enclosure doesn't get very hot stays in the low 30s I wonder if this is normal. temperature If I watch an episode of CSI Miami on cbs.com temp goes to 76C (176F) and fans go to 6200rpms. Enclosure still stays at 35C (95F). Is this what you get with the MBA rev B as well or is this something I should be concerned about and consider opening it to see the thermal paste and possibly re-apply?

MacBook Pro :: Screen Is Dimming And Brightening Quickly?

Aug 26, 2010

I just got a brand new MBP (6,2 and 10.6.4) but it's not my first. My previous MBP had the ambient light sensor that I could turn on and off via the system preferences (as mentioned in this thread) so suffice it to say, I know what it looks like when the screen dims and brightens. (I loved hovering my hands over the speakers. It was like magic to my PC friends.)

Now, I'm having an issue with my new MBP. I have my preferences set to adjust the brightness based on ambient light. And since the light sensor has moved to the microphone, it still does that just fine.

My problem is that I'm experiencing random flashes of the screen where it dims quite a bit rapidly but only for a short moment before returning to the original brightness. This occurs randomly in different light settings but most importantly when the light around me hasn't changed at all. And it has occured about once or twice a day for the last few days. I've even tried pressing my thumb over the light sensor really fast to see if it was the light sensor but try that and you'll see that it's actually really slow.

My other problem is that my screen is randomly resizing/zooming in on things. (I suspect this may be me doing some trackpad trick I'm unaware of but I've tried everything I can think of to replicate it and nothing works) Anyways, say I'm on my desktop and mousing over (with one finger) to open a folder or file. All of a sudden, all of the folders resize drastically. Or I'm in Firefox and a site loads. Then all of a sudden (*insert poltergeist*) the website zooms in or out. (like when you press cmd + or -) And it's always zooming in, never out.

Does anyone know what is going on with this? I don't know if the two things are related or if all of this is just really really stupid user error.
