Jun 30, 2014I believe that my internal SD drive on my MBA is creating a false positive when I insert the SD card which makes the card Read Only. The card is low-profile and is fixed in the unlock position so this is not the issue. Additionally the card is currently formatted in ExFAT so formatting is not the issue. All SD cards are coming up read only.

May 30, 2012I am currently trying to reformat an old usb stick. But struggling to get it working. I've included pictures below of the info page. When I go to disk utility all options are grayed out on this disk. After looking at terminal I believe the permissions for the disk are actually for 'staff'.

Apr 4, 2012They have no in-built readers so I have tried as follow - 3 different USB external card readers (1 plug-in and 2 cabled), 2 different cables, 4 different cards (2 of each), and all of their combinations on all USB ports on both computers. All to no avail. Cards won't show neither on desktop, Finder, Disc Utility nor Image Capture. Â Mind you though, SDHC card will be seen by iPhoto (and iPhoto only) if it's plugged directly through the camera or printer/ scanner. Only it's a bit annoying process having to use it just to read the card! Not to mention the use of iPhoto (which I don't, normally) just to transfer images through it to their destination. I work with a lot of images, videos and music, and not having been able to transfer them smoothly makes my work a bit of a nightmare.Â

Aug 24, 2010Does anyone with a Mac Pro '08 and up run it with 2 high end cards? ATI 4870, 5870 and/or GTX 285 are the ones I'm thinking of.On my MP '09, I currently run a 20" off the GT 120 and the GTX 285 on a 24". I have another 24" coming in (the Apple LED), so it requires me to use the GT 120. For gaming purposes, I'm considering getting a 2nd high end card for the new 24" instead of letting the old 20" act as a slave on the GTX 285 (trying to minimize load on the gtx285, again for gaming).

Oct 27, 2006Right now I've got a dual-DVI PCI-X card that runs two LCD screens on my PowerMac (the 256MB variant that shipped with the 2.0 DC). However, I just recently purchased a 37" LG LCD to replace my aging tube TV and I'd like to output my Mac to the LG to watch movies, etc. And at the moment, I have to unplug one of my smaller LCD's and run a cable to the LG.

Is there a way to turn off all but one (or two) ACD monitors (and the unused video cards) when not required? The latest Display page in OS-X 10.5.7 System Preferences has removed the option to turn off a monitor (and not the Mac Pro itself) via the side button. Tried turning off the power supply, but this is bad for the monitors, is impractical No rear-monitor USB2 or Firewire400 ports are used (for now).

Aug 21, 2014After using FCP 7 for years, I have finally moved to FCP 10 and completed a course which didn't deal with this basic question. I have for example 3 SD cards, with video clips on them, lets call them, 1/ wide shot, 2/ close up and 3/sundry. I have created a library and have no problem importing data from SD_1, but I cannot work out how to eject SD_1 and insert SD_2 to import data and so on. Even after the MBP has imported, rendered and shows all background processes as "Idle" if I try to eject SD_1 it shows a message, "Card in use".

Sep 16, 2009Both cards in OSX are reported as they should be and show acceleration, etc.I've noticed that the couple of games I've tried on the OSX side don't work right (well don't display right anyway) plus more bothersome is the fact that in VMware Fusion (2.05) running XP with DirectX acceleration turned on for the virtual machine, *any* software that runs and tries to use DirectX makes Fusion throw an error about the virtual machine performing invalid operations. (the error is thrown on the OSX side, not in the XP virtual machine)

I was just about to buy a USB online and thought I would check the Q&A for anything suspicious. Someone had asked the question; "is it possible to use this drive with a Mac", and someone from the store replied; "No, and it is not possible to reformat".Â
The drive is a Toshiba 500GB Canvio Basics USB3. Can some drives not be reformatted as this bloke seems to think or does he not know what he is talking about?Â

Oct 9, 2010So yesterday I decided to reformat my new MBP. I had it dual booting with Win7 and I just didn't like how hot my MBP got so I got rid of it. So I decided to reformat and pop in a fresh install of OSX, but I'm not sure if I reinstalled it properly. The reason why I say this is cause traditionally when reformatting my previous macs I would just follow the steps of the CD where then formatting the drive option was part of the step if I remember correctly. This time after putting in the OSX cd once it reboot.
I had to go to the utilities option select my drive to format or it would just reinstall the OS over top what was already there. After installing I noticed I had to rename my drive as well cause it was unknown. I never had to rename my drive before, so I'm not sure if I did this properly. So did I correctly format my MBP? Is there another way to do this to bring it back to exact factory specs? If not can someone let me know how to properly format my MBP?

Dec 22, 2010I used to use an iMac as my main machine, but my macbook has now taken over as I was traveling alot. I now want to wipe everything off my iMac and copy my macbook across to my iMac, so it becomes my master computer. Basically I need to free up some memory and use the desktop to control my home AV requirements (itunes, iphoto etc). I use a hardrive with Time Machine to back up my laptop, so if I plugged this into a reformatted desktop would it turn it into a copy of my laptop?

Holding down C, like the real disc? My original disc is broken after moving my computer while the disc was spinning. It got scratches from it. My computer won't boot for some random problems I know. You hear the cd spinning for a minute or so but then it goes off. Do I have a bad disk(doesn't appear to be scratched anywhere) or am I not being patience enough.

Jun 12, 2010I have a MacBook that I'm trying to backup because my husband wants to sell my computer and buy an iPad. I have a WD external hard drive with an iPhoto library currently on it, chronicling the first 28 months of my first child's life; needless to say it's important! The problem is that Time Machine won't back up to the external drive without erasing everything on it! Is there any way around this?
I will probably also need tips on how to put the iPhoto library (28 months to present time, about 2,200 pictures!) on my MacBook onto the hard drive (does that automatically happen upon backup?). Obviously I've done it once, because there is a library currently on the hard drive, but I can't remember how I did it.

Oct 17, 2007The drive in my G5 tower will read/write commercial or blank CDs and will read/write blank DVDs, however, it will not read most commercial DVDs. When I insert them it tries to read it then after a few seconds it just spits them back out. Occasionally commercial DVDs will read and mount fine, but this seems to be rare.

Apr 22, 2012I just switched from Snow leopard to Lion and i don't like the way that Lion has the mail preview set up as a 3 column vertical format. I thought in Snow Leopard you could change the set-up so it's either horizontal or vertical, but I can't seem to find that option in Lion. I want to have the list of my email messages in the top, horizontal window and the preview of the selected message in a horizontal window below. Am I missing this option to change the view format from vertical to horizontal somewhere?

First problem, when I boot from disc, it allows me to select language then says 'Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer' so I completely format the hard drive and try again. No luck.
