I am running mac os x 10.5.8. I want to run the apache server, but i get the following error: (2)No such file or directory: httpd: could not open error log file /private/var/log/apache2/error_log. Unable to open logs. It is the first time I try using Web Sharing on my machine, but somehow it seems some files are missing. Is it possible to install the apache server anew?

Any ideas as to why my iMac wants to log off constantly. I have it password protected to wake up (purely to keep my kids off) but no other power saver features activated.Whenever I walk away for any period of time, it has tried to log out and may have stalled due to the fact that I've left Safari open or the like, but otherwise logs off completely.

I have a Snow leopard server with a folder shared Via SMB for the 2 PC's we have, all the macs can read and write to this folder OK. About once a week the 2 pc's take 10 mins to start and then cannot connect to the share. Web/email and sharing betwen them still works. I can ping the server from both. I've turned off the smb and restarted it. Also tried restarting the Xserve. This still has no effect. All internal firewalls are off. I've tried guest access.

I have a macbook pro 17" I upgraded to leopard a few weeks ago. Like it does normally, it asks if i would like to do a software update. It gave me five things which needed the update. I run the updates. It restarts and runs updates 1-5 restarted itself it seemed kinda glitchy cause it didnt come on right away. Once it was to the loggin screen; i log in (right password) and then after loading my desktop it logs me out. After repeatedly trying to log in and stay logged in, it logs me out continuously. I've reset the PRAM and the SMC but still it logs me out as soon as it loads the desktop.

The clients can conect to it (win).I would lice to have some Mac clients and will setuped Lion server an in Open Directory I have set to connect to another server. Then in Directory Utility I will set the connection to AD Server over Connect in File menu and I have only error mesage "Can't connect to the server - Directory Services may not be installed on the remote server, they may be turned off, or the URL may have been entered incorrectly." and then I try the connection over Services - Active Directory and have error mesage "Authentication server could not be contacted." too.

I'm considering adding another Windows Server to our network (Windows 2008 Server); however, I like the fact that OS-X Server has Spotlight Server and a Wiki, but I heard that OS-X Server may have some serious problems and glitches especially with SMB or file-sharing for Windows. I'll be using this server for our graphics production department which is a mix of OS-X and Windows XP workstations, and I'll be adding to it a multi Terabyte rackmount Raid-drive.Can anyone who is in the advanced Server know-how share some advice to weather I should continue with Windows Server or switch to OS-X Server and why so?

I don't think this was an issue back then when I had only purchased my MBP. I am using a 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 15" MBP, with Mobility Radeon X1600 as my graphics card. I'm also on a 4 GB RAM. I'm using Leopard, running Mac OS X 10.5.8.
I'm using a 2.1 version of Bootcamp. I use Windows XP SP3.
Basically, I know that my MBP will be hotter when playing games, but the heat issue wasn't an issue back then. I don't know why it should be an issue now.
I've run the test using a Parallels, for the same games: Majesty 2, Virtua Tennis 2009, Lineage II, Worms Armageddon. The games run very slowly in the Parallels, as expected, but I was only waiting for my Windows to crash after a little time of playing, but it didn't happen when I was using the Parallels.
Also, I have no problem running any games in Mac itself, games such as Civilization IV, Fable TLC, Tomb Raider.
Therefore, I think I'm justified to believe that the problem lies specifically with running games in bootcamp (my windows doesn't crash if I don't play any games). Which is of course, one of the few reasons I install Windows on a Mac, that is for gaming.

I'm having a problem with my new intel iMac, 2.8GHz. Whenever I play games in XP through Boot Camp, especially Sim City 4, my mac crashes with the audio looping over and over. I have to hold the power button to restart my mac. I've been searching for solutions, but haven't found any definitive answers. I recently updated the Realtek Audio drivers, but that didn't help. Could there be heat issues when playing games on the windows side that causes this?

Recenly got myself a Macbook Pro and installed Vista 32bit on it. Runs great (although the fans start blowing quickly and hard in Vista compared to OsX) but I do have one problem: when I play games (HL2, Fallout3...) the games tend to crash after a few minutes (the application itself, not the laptop)
I tried installing (modded) drivers, updating all I can update but the problem remains. Only thing I have not tried is re-installing Windows, but not sure if that would even solve my problem.
Temperatures measured with HWMonitor seemed pretty normal to me (cpu max 62C, gpu around 82C).

I run a small Web Development business. I use Microsoft tools: Visual Studio and SQL Server (mostly), so the logical choice is to stay on Windows. But I'm not a logical guy. I actually was on the Mac bus not long ago... went through an iMac and then the 13" Macbook. I loved them to pieces, really. After a while, I grew a bit tired of the really small form factor and having to launch a noticeably slower virtual machine to use Windows (I used VMware at the time). I went back to Windows pretty much for business reasons. Now I'm getting the itch to go back to Apple. Why? Their design, look, and feel is a big reason. I also did more exploring when I was on Mac; researching stuff in my field away from the MS world that did open my eyes to new ways of handling development with my business. In a perfect world I would get the 24" iMac but since I run my own business I should stay mobile. Therefore I'm looking at the low-end Macbook Pro. Here are a couple of questions I have:1.) How is Windows in Bootcamp? If I were to go back, I think I would go that route to have as much speed as possible. Especially since the low-end starts with 2 gig ram (grrr)

I recently purchased a new MacBook pro with Mac OS X, I updated the OS to the latest release which is 10.7.3. I need to join (bind) a MS Windows server 2008 Domain, but when I try to bind I get below error:
Unable to add server.
The daemon encountered an error processing request (10002)
I searched the internet for a solution; most suggestions refer to sync the clock with the domain clock as Kerberos protocol is unable to authenticate. I cannot find a option to sync the clock with the domain clock, how I do that?

Im using a Mac Book Pro (Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 11D50b) with Microsoft Office 2011. Â
I make an SMB connection to my Windows 2008 File Server using the "Connect to Server" function in finder. I am then prompted to login to the server and I use my active directory username and password. Once logged in I open a Microsoft Word Doc from the windows server by double clicking on the doc in finder. I edit the doc in Word 2011 for mac and then click save. Â
Once the doc has been saved, some (not all) of the inherited permissions on the doc have disappeared. This means that other users on my network cannot open the doc as they get a permission denied error.
I have tested this several times and it is very repeatable. Have been working in this environment for several months with no issues to date, this seems to be a new issue. Â

I am having issues commecting my late 2011 model MacBook Pro to a Windows 2003 server on my internal network using the AFP protocall. I am able to connect to the server using SMB however. I have a am running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 operating system and the server can be found and pinged but when I try and connect to it using AFP I get the error: There was a problem connecting to the server "<my server ip address here>" The server may not exist or is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection and then try again.Â
On this network my roomate also has a late 2011 model MacBook Pro which is able to connect to the server no problem using both protocalls. He has completely disconnected his computer from the server to double check there was not at overload of traffic on the afp. The only difference in his machine vs mine is that he is running Mac OS X 10.7.2 which is pretty close in versioning.Â

I've recently installed the Orange Box on my Aluminium 13" Macbook (2.4Ghz).
At first, the games ran fine, but soon I started experiencing a lot of crashes (happened with HL2, HL2 Episode 1, Team Fortress 2, (haven't tried the others)). Sometimes the game just freezes (i hear a repeating sound), then quits. I get different error messages every time:
"The instruction at '0x0######' referenced memory at '0x#####'. The memory could not be 'written'"

I just updated my (2006 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz 15") MacBookPro to Leopard 10.5.6 I installed Windows XP SP3 through bootcamp, and everything was fine, but after i was done installing the BootCamp drivers from the Leopard disk and I restarted the computer, and booted back into windows, it would load to windows show my desktop for about 5 seconds then reboot itself (no error messages). So I mounted the windows partition again, same thing, over and over, I must have done it 20 times.I even tried doing the bootcamp 2.1 update and it didn't work. So i restored windows to the previous working settings and the bootcamp drivers were gone. So Windows works now but i am not abled to use the wifi or any multi touch or anything. I have also deleted the Windows partition and reinstalled it from the beginning and the same thing happened after installing the bootcamp drivers.

I just got my iMac all setup. I installed Windows Vista 32bit premium using bootcamp. I am fixing to run left 4 dead and gears of war and was wondering what settings some of you were running. I have the 2.93Ghz model, 4GB Ram, and 256MB Nvidia GPU. Also, gears of war seems to keep crashing when I set the resolution to 1900x1200.

I have seen other posts and I'm concerned that I didn't have all the info that I need. I would like to install Windows Server 2003 R2 64-bit on my IMac at home using VirtualBox. VirtualBox is like Parallels or VMware and is free. Where is the best place to get a Windows Server install disk and is there anything that I should look out for when installing it on my IMac?

Lately I'm starting to notice that if I leave my Macbook just sitting there for awhile, when I return to it, it didn't go to sleep, but it rather logged me out, leaving me at the login screen. I then have to re log in and re-open everything I was working on.

I'm running 10.5.7 and have a parental controlled account where I control what applications can be run. The internet isn't restricted, but it is supposed to log what websites have been visited. The problem is, nothing is being logged. There are sites that show up in Safaris history, but nothing shows up in the parental control logs. I was on the phone for over an hour with Apple, and they don't know what is going on. They said they would send the problem to the engineering department and they would get back to me in 3-5 days. The logging worked at one time. Does anybody know what could be going on, or how to fix it, or how to keep it from happening anymore.
