PowerPC :: IMac G5 Won't Boot - Logic Board Error Detected

May 17, 2007

I have an imac G5 20" that is approximately two years old. About 2-3 weeks ago it started acting a bit flakey....it would lock up on std apps (firefox), it would always lock up after being revived from sleeping etc. I ran the hardware test and everything checked out. Then a few days ago it wouldn't boot. I get the chime, I hear the drive spinning, then the fans kick into high gear and I get a screen with a folder in the middle with a "question mark icon" and a "finder icon" displaying alternatively inside the folder. So I booted up the hardware test dvd and the test failed 27 seconds in with the following error code:

2GMC/2/15: built-in
Logic Board Error Detected

Are there any other steps I should be taking before taking in for service?

MacBook :: Blank Boot - Potential Logic Board Fault?

Aug 18, 2010

After using a PC laptop for six months or so (and it really messing with my eyesight) I thought I'd try to revive my old macbook. Basically 70/80% of the time it won't turn on. There are these patterns of faulty behaviour which I hope you guys could diagnose:

1. I'll press the power button, I hear the disk noise, and the screen is black (i.e. not a backlight problem). The chime won't sound, I can just hear the fan and the hard drive whirring. The only way to get out of this is to power it off via the power button.

2. Sometimes after it's started up successfully and I move the Macbook (say, from a desk to my lap) the same thing will happen - black screen, with the rest of the stuff whirring, and if I try to shake it around nothing happens, I have to power off.

3. Occasionally when I power on, I just get the disk noise, a white screen, but no question mark, no apple logo, nothing.

4. Another time I tried to boot up with an external hard drive fitted and just got the chime over and over and over. Removing the drive solved this.

5. One time the screen just greyed out and a message in about 5 languages came up saying I needed to shut down my computer NOW.

This is not a hard drive fault - I saw that apple had extended the warranty on the hard drive because the question mark usually pops up for half a second at startup, and the nice guys at regent st London just whacked a new hard drive in, with a clean install of leopard (which was cool, I was previously on tiger at the time). I read something about resetting the PRAM (which I haven't tried), but I'm guessing it's the logicboard/motherboard. If this is the case, any idea how much it costs to fix? (My macbook is out of warranty). Figures in GBP appreciated but I can convert USD estimates. Is there any way I can try to blag a free motherboard and install from apple by exaggerating some symptoms?

MacBook Air :: Unable To Boot System / Magsafe Charge Light Is Green

Aug 31, 2008

Sooooo I just got my brand shiny new CTO 4GB 13.3 MBA this morning at about 9:45 am yesterday in Illinois. I was sposed to go to bed because I am working nights at the moment but i stayed up for hours setting it up and playing with it (my first MAC) and so I finally get home after working a 12 hour night shift and open up my new MBA expecting instant on and....nothing. The damn thing will not turn on and I tried all the tricks of the trade (suggested by apple support page) and nothing. It was fully charged when I left it in the morning. Also, my magsafe charge light is green which means it is still fully charged right??? Man what a super disappointment. My first MAC and it freaking dies immediately. My Win 7 desktop at least started...good ole faithful (granted it took about 55 seconds...pff)

I'm so sad!

IMac :: Light Vertical Wavy Floating Lines With Boot Camp?

Nov 5, 2008

I have a 20'' iMac with a 2.4GHz Core 2 and an HD2600XT.

There are light vertical wavy floating lines visible on the screen when running Windows XP. They are more clearly seen when you look the screen at an angle, from down below you look upwards to the screen. The floating lines can be precisely seen on grey backgrounds. These lines are not noticable much, but when you closely look with grey backgrounds, they are visible.

The problem is very strange because I've tried updating the drivers to my HD2600XT, and no luck at all.

I'm not able to determine wether the problem is hardware of software related, due to the problem not existing in Mac OS X.

The iMac G5 (17") doesn't want to boot up, when I press the I/O button it flashes with its white light, and then nothing happens. When I do that with the back-cover off light 1 is lit as long as the machine has power, but light 2 only flashes when I connect the pins that the powerbutton connects. I know that there was a problem with the powersupply, but the soldering I did should have fixed that.

Power Mac :: G5 Stuck At Light Blue Screen - Will Not Even Boot In Safe Mode

Mar 22, 2012

I have a 2.0 GHz early 2005 Power Mac G5 (7,3) that won't get past the light blue screen at start-up. I've tried everything - reset the PRAM, Apple Hardware Check (on overnight loops, everything came back OK), fsck (all OK), repaired my HD and permissions on it, and then erased the drive using Target Disk Mode and another Mac, and attempted to reinstall OSX from the install disk that came with it (with OSX Tiger). I've tried switching out the RAM with no luck.

The only thing I haven't tried is a new video card (the installed one is an ATI Radeon 9600). Here's what it does: powers on with the usual chime, then moves on to the white Apple screen, the wheel spins, then it moves on to a darker blue screen, then it finally moves on to a lighter blue screen with an arrow, and it just stays there. It will boot into safe mode (pressing shift), but I can't even upgrade to Leopard in safe mode, much less figure out what's wrong.

Intel Mac :: It Won't Boot, Solid Black Screen, Solid White Light?

May 21, 2012

My White iMac 24" won't boot up anymore.I noticed he was running slow lately and in the browser he crashed regularly so I need to reboot.Using the power button I have to shut him down and reboot again, only, the last time, he refused to boot up.Instead I got a solid black screen, and a solid white power light at the front... When booting the only thing I hear is a little buzz and then, nothing... Several support forums said this wasn't very good and it might be the last breath of my iMac. Trying a few things, hoping they would bring him back to life couldn't help:

- Power on with "c" kept down

- power on with control+option+p+r was something I read

- Power on with "shift" kept down

nothing would work.

the logicboard possess a t7300 c2d and model # is 820-2279-a, it appears.

i cant find anything on that model, except for on ebay.

Laptops :: Trying To Fix My Logic Board?

Oct 9, 2009

I have a macbook pro 17" 2.4GHz (non unibody). I accidentally applied 220 VAC to DC adaptor terminals and burned the logic board (and also the fuse on the left I/O board).

There were no visible damage on the logic board so I assumed only power input stages could have burned and started to investigate. I removed the battery charger IC, some burned mosfets; and I connected the adaptor plus input to the output of the battery charger block. So the DC/DC converters are now powered from the adapter, as in normal operation. Only difference is that there is no battery or charger stuff.

Now, when I press the power button nothing happens. If I connect the adaptor while pressing the power button, hold it for a while, release it, and press it again, it powers up. (Is this MCEverything from hdd to dvd to fans powers up but not the LCD. Fans start and remain running at full speed. Harddisk powers up but there are no noticable reads. That is, no os boot attempted. The mbp draws around 1.5 A to 1.75 A at 18.5 VDC(not sure if it indicates anything).

I'll do whatever I can to fix my board. I have MSc in electronics, skilled technician friends, and access to lots of tools, parts, and measurement devices.

Mac Pro :: Need New Logic Board For Dual 1 Ghz MDD

Mar 6, 2007

I just got a Dual 1 Ghz MDD. It's a big step up from my 500 Mhz Sawtooth!

The problem is that it (supposedly) needs a new logic board. I've been watching logic boards on ebay, but I'm not finding anything with matching part numbers. My logic board has the following numbers:

630-4373 EEHNNW
448F2
KD2370366NFGA
630-4269

I guess the important numbers are the 630-* numbers. Perhaps one it the
'as designed' rev part number, and one is the 'as manufactured' rev part number?

I have the dual 1 Ghz processors; would they work on a 1.25 Ghz logic board? Most of the boards I see on ebay are 820-1476-A, or 820-1308-A.
What's the difference between the 820- boards and the 630- boards?

I don't have a complete service file for the MDD; can anyone email a copy?

PowerPC :: TestingLogic Board G4 MDD?

Apr 2, 2008

I have an older mirrorred face G4 dual 1G.

It recently started acting weird (freezing) and then stopped working altogether.

When I go to start I get 4 beeps followed by 5 flashes of the power light. After that revving fans.

My research has told me that there is an issue with the logic board.

I have checked the 3.6v battery and it is fine. I also have done the following:

reset PRAM (just once mind you)

Pulled all RAM and reseated in different ports and configurations.

Pulled and reset the video card.

Pulled everything else off of all USB ports and FW ports.

I have sice taken the logic board out to have a look.

All looks fine, but I really don't know if there is any way to test a board to see if it's bad, other than putting a new one in.

Also, the red light on the logic board is on. From what I understand that is a sign of over-heating.

OS X :: MacBook Pro Logic Board?

Sep 22, 2009

Anyway... I was planning on getting my hard drive replaced because it was making that weird noise I talked about and I still am... but. Something else happened to. My friends dog chewed my power cord (just a few bite marks) and it was enough to make the green like really dim so we unplugged it. Instead of trying to fix the cord... we just got a new one but the computer wont turn on!
The light does not turn red green or orange on the plug but the battery light blinks when I unplug the chord (the battery is dead.. all drained i mean).

Me and my mom took the computer to a store that does warranty repairs on both Macintoshes and Windows computers and they said they would replace whatever for free. Like the harddrive maybe the battery if that is what is wrong and the logic board. But well... we kind of never told them my friends dog ate my first power cord >>

I wanted to. but my mom and my friend said they wont replace it for free if we told. I sure hope there is no way they can find out of the 1000 for a new logic board is true. We dont even have that kind of money right now!

But do you think the couple seconds of not enough power from the chewed cord might have shorted out my psu or something?

Im just curious. I know my friend has a friend that took his laptop in for a similar problem... yesterday or the day before.

OS X :: Anomalies After MBP Logic Board Replacement

Feb 21, 2010

After my MacBook Pro 2.5's logic board failed( and was replaced under AppleCare) after owning my MBP for just 17 months, activity monitor often shows asl ( system log file) manager at about 100% CPU. Fans spin at 5000rpm. Never had this issue before the logic board replacement. Also, Safari 4.04 frequently crashes; never had this issue either before, either. Occasionally, after restarting my MBP, the Apple doesn't appear on my screen but instead I get image of a folder alternating with a question mark. When trying to use installation disk to start up, under 'select the system you want to use to start up', Mac OS 10.5.8( the OS that's on my hard drive, will not show at all...it's missing. After restarting several more times with installation disk OS 10.5.8 eventually appears as a selection. Why would these issues appear only after the LB was replaced. I suspect that the replacement logic board or its installation is not 100%. Something's not quite right there.

MacBook Pro :: Logic Board Is Broken?

Sep 1, 2010

Some of you probably will remember my post a week ago, saying that my MBP DVD drive killed my OSX Installation DVD. here is the conclusion of it, I took it authorised service center here in North Thailand. Waited for a week they sad they will change DVD drive and today it finally arrived. Around 11am they called me and said dude, we changed the drive the problem is still there cant install system. Your "Logic Board' is screwed, you have to wait at least 1 week for a new one.

Now what is logic board? Is that main board? Is it possible for computer to still work with a broken mainboard? I mean I didnt damage it, I had kernell panic and tried to re-install OSX so how could that killed my MPB? I still could boot into disk utility and format the drive was just unable to copy files. To be honest my MBP is 3 months old, i took a good care of it. And I'm very very very dissapointed in apple computers now, expensive and damn un-reliable.

MacBook Pro :: Logic Board Need Replacing?

Oct 12, 2010

Was watching a 720p HD movie on a plane. Movie starts to freeze up. I can move the mouse but the rest of the computer is unresponsive. I force shut down by holding the power button.

Upon restart, all seems well, I login but computer quickly becomes unresponsive again. I force shut down again.

Next restart is over 10 minutes. Gets to login screen but can't login.

I boot from install disk and run HD repair. It finds some problems and repairs them. Reboot. Same symptoms.

I decided it is the HD and archive and install. Install fails. I wipe the HD cleaned and reinstall osx.

All seems fine as I go through set up and login in. A few minutes later same unresponsiveness.

So finally I did what I shouldve done awhile ago which is swap my current hd with my old one. I do and the computer runs fine! I'm at my wits end.

Just so everyone knows, the day before all these symptoms started I swapped my stock 2x1gb ram for 2x4gb ram. I originally thought that was the problem but I've had my original ram in since I've been trying to diagnose and it's made no difference.
