Also, is it possible to slow down the download rate.. but keep the upload rate the same? Tried looking for products which can achieve this but can't seem to find any.

MacBook :: Is There Reliable Pre-paid 3G Usb Modems Out There

Feb 21, 2009

They'll pay most of that for the time being BUT in this economy and speeds getting faster almost every year, I'd be stuck with it. MOST I'd want to go is a year(carrier doesn't matter we get $50/mo. but goes to a person not a business) in case there's any changes in staff and being stuck paying it or having a 5 G or something a year in and pay to break it off.Basically it's to show off to clients how ads work at our company and how they can see there's other clients of ours have work for them that they can submit bids on. Usage is very light. Not a replacement for my broadband only on the road type of things. Questions:1. Is there reliable pre-paid 3G usb modems out there?2. Is there a cheaper way of doing this say, change out my sim card to the device from my Iphone? We're all ATT I know first gen (what I have) iphone allows me to use a crappy older cell when I go to the beach or anywhere it's too bulky or easier to break.

MacBook Pro :: Which SSD Is Most Reliable For Boot Camp

Jun 6, 2010

I'm a long time user of PCs but have just bought my first Mac - a new 2010 MacBook Pro 13". I want to replace the hard drive with an SSD, however looking through the threads on this forum have got me worried. The Intel ones seem to have issues with Boot Camp (I want to install Windows 7 x64 on it as well as OSX) and the OCZ Vertex forums have horror stories of Macbooks not booting at all off the SSD (albeit on the 2009 Macbooks).

Is there any SSD that has proven just to work? Ideally it should have garbage collection as well and be 120-160GB but that is my only stipulation.

MacBook Air :: Looking For Reliable Notebook (CPU Usage And Core Shutdown)

May 27, 2008

It's the last question before I buy the MBA. I have a program that can run under Win or MAC. That's a Picture convert and compile program work with my project. This program needs 100% CPU to and last 15 minutes to work under my old Pemtium M 1.6Ghz notebook. Usually I do my job use my notebook in home or my desktop PC in office. But occasionally I need to do some compile outside the office.

So I really need to know whether the MBA will definitely shutdown one core when the CPU usage is 100% and last 15 minutes? Or maybe you can tell me if the MBA will shutdown when rendering a project in Mayar or 3D Max last 15 minutes. It's important to me before I buy the MBA. I just need a light notebook and I can do some hard job occasionally, but reliable. I like a Fujisu S6510 too, but it is too expensive and heaver than MBA.

MacBook :: How To Find Alliterative Source For Adapters?

Feb 3, 2009

After purchasing the alu. macbook, I find my self buying all the necessities: again. quit frankly its getting old. It does seem like most apple computers are what some might call overpriced to begin with, but I am ok with that; you get what you pay for and i don't mind paying the mac tax. But as I purchase the odds and ends required to use my computer in the real world, it seems as if apple is taking advantage of the fact that our computers lack some of the hardware to connect with to overhead projectors, etc. (as most PCs can). I mean $29.99 for a 3 in. piece of plastic and wire???

I was just wondering if anybody has found an alliterative source for adapters?

MacBook :: Battery Charging And Power Source

My macbook is charging and it's at 33% and it says it has 7 hours remaining until it's complete. iStat tells me that my battery is still 100% with 70 cycles. My macbook is only 6 months old, and this battery issue started happening just a few days ago. Could it be the charger? sometimes I plug in the charger and the light doesn't come on sometimes. Also something odd that I noticed, when my charger isn't plugged in it still says its power source is from the power adapter. Could it be from using my parents macbook pro charger on my macbook?

MacBook Pro :: Power Source From Adapter Went Off While Connecting

Jun 25, 2012

I have a MBP for 27 months and something wrong with the power source recently. As my MBP is bought for working purpose as a desktop so mostly i kept my MBP connected with the AC adapter. I will let it run on battery once every month or two so as to keep my battery runs. However a couple of days ago I found the my MBP is running with the battery power instead of AC suddenly, then I let it run till 1X% and recharge my battery again. This situation keep happening recently and I needed to keep recharge my battery all the time, and what even worse is the adapter stopped charging in the middle of charging period for two times. It couldn't complete the whole charging cycle and I needed to disconnect the adapter from the socket for a minute and continue charging again. While the battery is charged, i let my MBP runs with the adapter in on as usual, however the green light will go off suddenly while the battery is still in 100% or so, I have to disconnect the adapter from the socket and plugged in again.

As I now always need to keep an eye on the battery icon and coconutBattery and I found that the percentage of the battery won't drop off before the light goes off. Is my MBP got infected or anything will lead to such case? I am just wondering if the recent software updates lead to such case as the it happened coincidentally.

Mac Pro :: Most Reliable TB Hard Drive

Mar 22, 2008

We've been reading a lot about trying to find the fastest 1 TB hard drive, with the Samsungs getting a lot of attention. My question is a little different... Do we have any good data yet on what the most reliable hard drives are? I realize that all will fail at some point, but are some less likely to do so than others? I'm currently trying to set up a RAID storage archive.

Mac Pro :: How Reliable Is OS X RAID Setup

Oct 3, 2008

I have 2 1TB drives coming in on Monday, and I plan to put them in a mirror RAID using Disk Utility. How reliable is the OS X software RAID setup? Would I be better to just manually backup from one drive to another? The drives will be for my photography, I wanted a mirror setup so I'd finally have a backup of my (current) 250GB's of photos. (Most of which I could probably burn to DVD's but humor me.)

If the RAID crashed somehow via the software, would the data still be recoverable? I have a MP and will be putting them in Bays 3 & 4. Also, is there any benefit to the different block sizes? Since my files will all be at least 7MB would the biggest block size speed it up?

OS X :: Reliable Software To Backup My System?

Dec 9, 2010

I have a new (6 months old) 27in iMac with a 1TB disk and 8GB of memory. It is an Intel. I bought a new 1.5TB external USB HDD yesterday and formatted using the Disk Utility and tried both "Options" of "GUID Partition Table" and then "Apple Partition Map" because the backup kept crashing. I have selected only the main HD partition which is 55GB. I believe that it should work, however, for some reason unbeknown to me it keeps crashing. Initially, it was around about the 700mb or 1gb size. Then I managed to get to just over 10GB. Most annoying as anybody who has tried to backup with Time Machine must know given its slowness. The error messages say that the disk has been removed during the process which is not the case. Can anybody suggest a remedy or some other more reliable software to backup my system please?

Can anybody advise me as well as to whether either of the following are better than Time Machine Please.

ChronoSync

Data Backup

Mac Pro :: Secure And Reliable Backup Strategy

Jan 12, 2009

My 8 core Mac Pro should be here in a few days and I have not spent much time considering a backup strategy. I want to keep it simple and reliable. I am not sure what size drives I am going to get. I will not be doing a lot of graphics work on the system. I will be using it for everyday business productivity, iPod music storage, and application development. I will also be using Fusion 2 with a Vista Home Premium VM. ON my current PC, I am using less than 100GB. I suspect 750GB will give me plenty of headroom. My first thought is to setup a three drive system using software RAID 1 (mirroring) with Time Machine using the third drive.

I know hardware RAID 1 is faster, but I don't think software RAID 1 will stress my Mac Pro too much. I would like to do this with all drives internal. Will Time Machine support that? If I don't think I am going to come close to filling up the 750GB array, do I really need to get a bigger drive for Time Machine? I am not looking for the highest availability possible or the most data security possible. I just want to make sure that I have a reasonably solid strategy that will keep me up and running through a single drive failure and allow me access to older files that I may have deleted for whatever reason.

OS X :: Time Machine Backups Not So Reliable?

Feb 4, 2009

So I just replaced my drive with an SSD. I'll post a topic about that later, but for now I want to limit this discussion to the migration from drive to drive. I should have just gone with the cloning approach from the beginning, but I was curious to try out a time machine recovery. So before performing the upgrade, I made sure that my Time Machine Drive had the most recent backups of everything. I swapped the drives and installed Leopard from the install DVD. When it prompted me to recover from time machine, I started the recovery. Everything finished successfully. When I rebooted the computer, some thing seemed a bit weird. My mouse sensitivity was different and my "stack" was showing the icons, instead of the folder like it usually does. I realized that I was no longer on 10.5.6. I was on 10.5.0, obviously. So I performed all the software updates. I restarted and there were a few more software updates. Updated those too. Okay now surely, I was good to go.

I was able to make my "stack" back into a folder and I could fix my mouse sensitivity (I think the reason why it went wonky was due to the addition of the trackpad pref pane in 10.5.6 and the lack of it in 10.5.0). Safari booted up fine. Then I clicked on Firefox. The icon bounced once, but no app. Weird... I figured maybe there was some sort of permissions error. I deleted firefox and reinstalled it. Same issue... Then I tried to start up Entourage. I got an error about not having proper permissions. I googled the issue and it looks like other people have had errors with Time Machine backups and Entourage..................
