MacBook Pro :: Unable To Reinstall OS-X?
Jun 25, 2009
I haven't been able to reinstall OS-X on it at all. It takes 45 minutes from the time I say install to the time it gets only 1/10 of the bar across of the installing part and then fails.
I am able to format the HD, and partition it. This HD came out of another laptop of mine that I sold and was working fine. When I first tried this and did a time keeper restore, the laptop kept freezing and it took 5 hours for it to restore. Now I can't get OS-X installed. So I am a bit confused what is going on here.
Anyone have any ideas?

I recently returned from a weekend long trip. My mom had used my Mac Book Pro (December 2012) on the guest account. When I opened it on Monday it was unresponsive, and the screen only showed the dock. I rebooted, but the result was a white screen with a flashing folder with a question mark. I followed instructions on the forums, and used command r. Now I am stuck. I didn't back it up with time machine, so that option (Of the 4) is out of the question. I'm using the safari one now. I can't modify or delete my disks for the Disk Utility Option, and am unable to select a disk to reinstall Mountain Lion on. Long story short, I seems my computer is having problems with the disk.

I wanted to reformat my computer to "factory setting" and inserted the usb that came along with the mba i bought. Clicked install and restarted and followed instruction.
When the installation was done and computer rebooted, i didn't see any changes at all. Everything was exactly the same.
Anyone knows what's wrong?
Really wants to reset my computer...

So for my Mac Pro I just got a new hard drive to enable RAID and in the process of reinstalling leopard and restoring my files the restore seems to have frozen.
It is frozen on the transferring files to support applications. It says it has 3 minutes remaining but has said that for the last hour or so.

It's an iMac G5 on OS X v10.4
Here's the problem:
When booting up normally it goes to a screen with an apple in the middle, and then some kernal panic code comes up:
panic(cpu 0 caller 0x002E1904) unable to find driver for this platform: "PowerMac12,1"
That's the first line of the code.
Anyway, i want to simply format the whole system and start from scratch with the system disk supplied with the imac. However, when i put it into the machine and press C at start up, it goes to an apple screen and hangs on that apple screen and does nothing else.
I've tried pressing the alt key and going into the boot options and booting from the CD there. However, that goes to the apple screen, then a little ajax style loading thing comes up. That sits there for a while until the apple turns to a "stop" style sign. This continues to hang.
I've tried resetting the PRAM and NVRAM by holding the Command, Option, P, and R buttons. Holding theses makes the computer reboot a few times until i let go. Once thats done, nothing changes.
I've tried holding X while loading up, this just goes back to the panic code.
I've tried holding shift while loading up, this again just goes back to the panic code.
I've cleaned the system CD and it makes no difference.

I have a new MP Quad and I am noticing that I am always having to repair my startup disk. I will notice the system start to slow down, I will have Onyx verify startup disk and it tells me to repair it. I will boot to SL DVD, repair the disk and it will run fine for awhile but eventually end up in the same situation. Do I need to reinstall SL or is this a hardware issue?

A friend brought his new 15" Macbook Pro to me after trying to install Boot Camp and Windows XP. He said that he made a second partition for Windows; however, the drive showed only one partition formatted with NTFS. I tried reinstalling mac os using the disk that came with the laptop. When it came time to choose the destination drive, none showed up. I then went to Disk Utility. The drive and the volume showed up in the left panel but I could not Erase or do anything else - all the options were grayed out. With no firewire port I am also unable to use target mode.

Today, I decided to reinstall Mac OS X Snow Leopard on my iMac, to have a fresh & new copy of Mac OS. I've done this before on my Macbook, and it worked perfectly. The iMac would not read the original Reinstall DVD that came with it. Instead, it would eject it, though it would work it on another Mac. But when I inserted my Snow Leopard disk that I bought separately, it worked.
However, when I entered the reinstall screen, it is extremely slow and I nearly can't use it. I did already use the Disk Utility to erase the hard disk files. So, it is extremely slow, and it wouldn't install either. All I get is the amour of time left, but it doesn't change, just gives me a waiting spinning wheel. It's been stuck on the screen for several hours.
The iMac was bought in January, I believe. What should I do?? This is very weird. Should I take it to the Apple Store, or is there a way to fix it?

I turned my 2011 iMac on this morning but it never loaded past the startup screen. Eventually the Apple icon which is usually displayed on the screen turned into the broken folder symbol. I read some articles on how to fix this and tried resetting the NVRAM and PRAM, but that didn't work. I was going to try reinstalling OS X next, but putting the disc into the driver doesn't appear to do anything, and now I can't eject it.

I would like to make a fresh and clean install of Snow Leopard. I have a MacBook Pro Late 2008 and it came with 10.6. I did upgrade to 10.6 last year when it came out but now I would like to wipe everything off it, format it and reinstall 10.6 so it looks brand new. How do I do that? Do I need to install 10.5 first and then 10.6 or can I directly install 10.6? And what application do I need to load?

I am planing on selling my MBP. I needed to erase everything and reinstall OS X. I reformatted the drive, everything went ok. It started to install 10.5 but part way through the install, it froze at a time. I let it sit for about an hour. No change. Trying to click any of the menu icons at the top resulted in beach balling. I then, after reading advice, hard shut off the machine and rebooted to retry the install. Now, I just get a folder with a question mark and, when pressing "c" to have it boot from disk, it reads it, then ejects it. I need help to fix the problem. This is on a Macbook Pro Late 2007 edition.

my MBP (early 2008) seems to have a corrupted SMC.Operations that i think are managed by the SMC like booting and sleeping are having big issues:Â First, to boot OSX needs about 10 minutes. After presing the power-buton the chime sounds and the apple logo appears. OSX starts loading.
Then it suddenly stops and a blue screen appears. This blue screen stays there for several minutes. Then i can hear a little sound from the hard disc  and the desktop appears as always and i can use OSX without any problems. Second, to get the MBP to sleep isnt working at all. Closing the MBP leads to a black screen, while the fans etc are still working. There is no way to wake it up again, so i have to do a force shut down. Â
I already formated the hard disc and reinstalled OSX 10.6 twice, but the problem still occurs. And I already tried to reset the SMC (pressing 5sec power button etc) and tried to clean the PRAM. I have no clue if the resets were actually done. I didnt have to enter passwords etc again like i was expecting to do after a PRAM-Reset. Is there a way to reinstall the SMC? I tried to but i got the message "Firmware is already up to date. No update necessary."Â

My Air was such a nice laptop, but after installing 10.5.8 it has become a nightmare. I want to reinstall the os, but it wont do it.I have installed remote disk, and trying to remotely reinstall it. I do what it says: Turn off my MBA and hold option in while i turn it back on. However, when I turn it back on, no airport shows. I click the (...) and write the name of my airport and i write the pw, but it wont connect. It has been trying to connect for about 15minutes now, but nothing happens..I dont need any other CDs then what came with the air, right? Im using "Mac OS X install disk 1" now.

I have had my first MacBook now for about a year. Its beginning to slow down quite a bit, which is expected I guess. I have been looking around for ways to speed things up, but I do not know what they mean, how they work, how to do it. I have a MacBook Pro 13in, 2.53 C2D, 4 GB ram, 500 GB hard drive, running 10.6.4. I also have a bootcamp of Win7 64 bit Ultimate but I am not having any problems with that.
Apparently there is a way to reinstall the OSX that preserves everything, but a clean install of the operating system. I bought this before Snow Leopard, so do I insert the Snow Leopard disc to do it? I tried restarting and booting from the disc but I must have missed something because it just booted normal.

I want to reinstall my MacBook Air with the 10.6 'Reinstall Drive' that came with the MBA -- the small USB key.
When I insert the device it pops up a window and I click the install icon; it tells me it will not reboot, which it does. The Apple log appears and the nothing happens (I have left it for 15 minutes). In the manual it tells me I can also insert the device, start eh MBA and hold down the C key. Same thing, apple logo then nothing else

I need Rosetta, which limits me to 10.6.8. There are system glitches: Open Recent in many apps is confused. System-window sidebar has a mind of its own. Seem like I need to re-install 10.6.8. Is there a combined upgrade that collects everything since 10.6.0? Or do I have to climb the stairs, one update at a time>

I am not sure where automator went and never needed it before today. When I went to look for it it is gone. I could not find it on my snow leopard disc or macbook discs. I looked all over the web and it seemed like I was the only person who ever went looking to reinstall it. I am on 10.6.8 and just about ready to upgrade now that all my programs are supported on it. But I need automator.

Trying to reinstall OS after the machine wouldn't work when I tried OS upgrade. I formatted Macintish HD. It looks like it downloads successfully but never restarts afterwards. No matter what I try it just boots into OS X Utilities. When I go into DIsk Utility it lists 160.04 GB Toshiba, then under that Macintosh HD. Then further down it lists disk1 and under that it lists OS X Base System.
