I have a MacBookPro late 2008 with a Samsung SSD and updated 10.7.4 Lion.Last week I had to install VirtualBox for my job, after I've run some programs in a virtual ubuntu system, I turned off the system and on the next boot I have not been able to login.
Keyboard and trackpad do not respond or even the usb.I've reset both PRAM and SMC but the problem remains. Then I tried to change hdd with one that had changed recently (with Lion 10.7.2).It all works, keyboard, trackpad and all ports.I repaired the permissions on the SSD and I performed the check of errors, but the problem still remains.
Hi! Im new to the forums but i really need help with something and i was hoping someone here could help me out. So I just installed Tech Tool Deluxe onto my macbook and then shut it down later. I went back to use it again and when i turned it on a login screen appeared asking me to put in my password. I did that and the screen turned blue (looking like it was loading) and then went back to the login screen. Every time i put in my password it just takes me back to the login screen. I have had my mac for a while and i dont want my hardrive to get wiped out so what do i do? Thank you for looking
I work for a company that has several Macs available for customers' use. These are basically demo-machines that they can play with, and at the end of each day, the machines are wiped and rebooted.
The way we do this is simple: the machines auto-login to the Guest account, which will wipe the account at the end of the day. Well, getting a few new Macs in this week, I simply copied over the entire Guest user account to the new machines to avoid reloading all the demo content, preferences, etc. And truthfully, the machines have been working great.
Except one thing. The computer keeps giving me that annoying message that says "Safari (or Finder, or System Preferences, or anything!) wants to use keychain 'login'". And asks for the login keychain password. Well here's the thing: the Guest accounts don't have passwords!
So I looked up a little bit on this topic, and did things like... Went to "Keychain List" in the Edit menu of Keychain Access, and deleted both the "login" and "system" keychains. No help. I went to Preferences in Keychain Access and said "Reset My Keychain". When doing this, however, it asks for the new password for the login keychain.
The problem with this is that I cannot leave the field blank! The Guest account doesn't have a password, so how am I supposed to not create a password?
G4 MDD networked with Mini for approx. 3 years now via a LinkSys BEFSR41 wired router. Ethernet cables are CAT6's with gold-plated ends. Did an erase/install (+ updates) of Panther on G4. ISP is Comcast Cable. Just upgraded my Motorola modem from Surfboard 5100 to SB 5101 yesterday. My network settings are ok...file sharing is turned on...I can ping each 'puter from the other (showing my connection is good).
I have internet access (showing that the router is still good according to Cisco). Now, however, I can't even bring up the window on the G4 asking for my pw....all I get is connection failed, no response from the server. From the Mini, I get Unknown User, incorrect password or login is disabled. I haven't a clue what the problem can be. Everything I do daily depends upon the network connection.
i ve recently activated the default guest account in leopard. However even though when I check in the accounts.prefpane it says that it is on and its 'login only' and when I click on the account it says 'allow guests to login into this computer' and its on.
However when I boot up my machine and click on the guest icon, it wont let me in as it shakes the menu(login failed).
I have an iMac G5 1.8Ghz and Today when I logged in, it just froze on the apple OS X background. I waited 2 minutes, and nothing happened. It was weird because it's the first time it happened. Anyway, I turned the iMac off and re-tried. It did the exact same thing. So I turned it off, unplugged everything, waited around a minute, plugged it all back in, and it worked fine.
But yeah, just trying to work out why it would do that... because this is going to my brother and I don't want it to just crash when I give it to him.
I have a first gen 13 inch MacBook aluminum. It was dropped on the corner a few months ago but has preformed fine ever since. I have been using it up until yesterday without a problem. Although yesterday I noticed the airport wireless icon was reporting and exclamation point icon and it was having trouble finding and connecting to networks my iPhone was connecting without a problem. Today I boot up and the boot time is very slow and sometimes hangs.
It takes 10 minutes to get to the login screen and when it does I can move the mouse but the keyboard won't respond. So I can't type my password to login. The mouse moves but when I click a button nothing happens. I booted in safe mode and off the os x disk with the same issue. However I used key commands to do that and selected a boot disk using the keyboard and the mouse to do that so I know the work. Can I bypass my loginscreen somehow? I'm most concerned about my data and I plane to get a hard drive first thing tomorrow.
At start up the screen is very dark, so I can't log in to my account, because I can't see the arrow. I tried to make the screen more bright with fn F2, but that doesn't work. How can I have a bright screen at start up, so that I can see what I'm doing?
I upgraded my Mini no problem, then I put the install disk in my MacBook and started the upgrade. All appeared normal.
Came back about an hour later, and the MacBook was asleep. Woke it, expecting to see the new login screen, but I got the old login screen. Logged in, and did not see the welcome movie or anything to indicate the new OS. Checked 'About This Mac', and it says OS 10.5.8.
Before I started the upgrade I had about 11.5GB free on my 80GB hard drive. Now I have just short of 10GB free. There is a folder on my HD titled 'Mac OS X Install Data' with a 'date modified' of today (all other folders have older dates) -- it appears to be mostly .pkg files, the biggest of which are 'Essentials.pkg' (841MB) and 'BaseSystem.pkg' (625MB).
Can anyone tell what went wrong -- why when the computer restarted it's not running 10.6? And, maybe more importantly, what should I do now? Run the installer disk again? Could it be that I didn't have enough free space on my HD?
My iMac is only 5 months old. I cannot get past the login screen. When I click on a profile to get the login rectangle nothing happens. I even tried a usb mouse rather than my bluetooth mouse - no response. I have restarted the machine and no luck.
I am presently running it on the repair disk. I also had problems getting past the language selector - it eventually continues on to where I could select the disk utility.
I can boot up the imac and then I get my login screen to choose my user name or guest account. I can move my mouse around but when I try to click on either account..nothing. I can hear that my keyboard is working.Â

I am suddenly unable to log in to First Direct - I put in my user name and it simply refreshes the page asking me to input it again. It was fine earlier today before I updated. I phoned and they said there was no problem. I used my partner's Mac (with 10.5.5) and, sure enough, it's fine on there. Yet again, a software update solves a bunch of problems and then creates a few more.
when I press "Command+Control+D" when i hover over a word to look up its meaning in Dictionary it doesn't do anything... and when I Control-Click it and select "Look up in Dictionary" it doesnt do anything either... and I tried doing both things when I had Dictionary running in the background and when it was closed and nothing.... so, what can I do?
since i got my macbook i used to always close the lid to put it to sleep between classes and every time I open it, it asks me for authentication and password... now, it's not doing that! and if I close it, and perhaps, go to the bathroom or something, anybody can open and it logs in w/o password.... maybe I changed something in Settings w/o realizing but can't remember...
[EDIT] I just remembered! in iTunes, I want to disable the little link button to iTunes Store next to each song/artist/etc... I know if I disable iTunes Store from Parental Controls, it'll do it.... but if I do, I won't be able to download Apps! How can I turn them off??
my keychain is locked and in the prefs the list is empty. i try to repair and it says it can't find the "login.keychain". in the utlties fldr the file is"login_renamed.keychain" and when i change the file name to login.keychain it reverts back to the first as soon as i hit the repair button in keychain 'first aid'. i copied the file too thinking it was just a glitch and it renamed that one too.
We are running 10.5 server and 10.4 client machines. 4 servers with accounts 2 work and 2 do not. Everything seems to be set up the same on all. The error we get is "The home folder for the user account is located on an AFP or SMB server.
I am using Safari 5.1.4 on my mac OS X 10.7.3.Recently, I had to reset Safari and Empty cache, and since then I am unable to log into some websites (e.g. url... When I enter username and password it fails log in.However, when I enter the same username and password using Chrome, Opera on the same computer and another computer the log in works fine.Other websites are all working fine: such as access to bank, my company's vpn, other user forums, etc.I have done all of the following but none has helped:
1. re-reset Safari and re-emptied cache, restarted computer and restarted Safari
I am unable to log in to my AT&T account through Safari, but am able to with Firefox. Can someone explain what my problem is and suggest a fix. The AT&T tech guy said it is a common problem with Safari.
"iChat was unable to login to the AOL Instant Messenger service because your screen name or password was incorrect."
However, I haven't even tried to logg in! Secondly, I don't have an AOL account, and want to logg in with my mac account. I thus in preferences told the comp that I wanted to logg on with my appleid account. But it doesn't seem to work!
Ok so i installed new software onto my mac then it told me to restart so i did. When it ran up again it gave me the log in screen so I logged in and typed my password in. Then it just gives me the default background and a cursor. I can log in on my other two accounts but all of my data is on the account I cant log in on! I have got Filevault enabled if that could be the problem??
I bought a new iMac 24" about a month ago. It runs Mac OS X Snow Leopard (all up to date). So I used Microsoft Messenger for Mac from the first day I bought it. Yesterday I installed Adium. So everything went well yesterday. When I went to sleep, I closed all apps from the background (Command + Q),And put the iMac on sleep.
Today I tried to use Adium and it won't log-in. It says sometimes "Retreiving buddy list" or some problems with the network (of the MSN). I tried to used Microsoft Messenger for Mac and it says something like "Service not responding or no network connection"..I HAVE FULL NETWORK CONNECTION (Plug-in straight to the router) I tried already reinstall everything, reset the router, reset the computer, Changing the port of Adium to 80 (I brought it back to default later)..I also installed OniX and clean the data with it, it still have this problem. I've done everything I can to solve it, but I still can't figure it out.
I am unable to log in to my IMac. When I try and log in to the Administrator account (my only account) it brings up a dialog box that says "You are unable to log in to the user account (user name) at this time with and OK button. Before this I was performing the Secure Empty Trash feature which froze on me. I tried exiting it out and logging out but was unable to. So I held the power button on the side of my IMac till it shut down. That is when this problem occurred.

Can I use Mac OS 10.5.x successfully? Does this computer have what is needed? Out of ignorance and bravery, I have already loaded 10.5.x on my hard drive, and am having problems. So, I'm considering reinstalling my back up. Should I?
A couple of the problems I am having are: 1) logging in to the iTunes store (crashes), and 2) my scanner software also crashes.
Unable to remove login items (Revert after reboot) iOX10.5 iMac
I am having issues and permanent encounter in having my removed login items reappearing after reboot. I have very MANY of the same programs in 'open at Login accounts' eg: Messenger,Safari,Skype,Evernote,Dropbox, antivirus, but they are listed dozens of times. in this 'open at login' area.
Here's the steps I have taken:
1) Open Applications, Account Preferences, cluck my administrator acc, select program to delete, click on - and wait.
2) Remove some login items (with or without unlocking the lock, doesn't seem make a difference, tried both)
3) Login items are now fewer
4) Reboot
5) voila, the removed login items are still loaded and displayed in login item tab.
