MacBook Pro :: Press Escape Key To Exit Full Screen

Aug 16, 2010

Whenever I try and watch a full-screen video, like on Engadget, the "Press Escape key to Exit Fullscreen" message never disappears. At first I thought it was Safari (v4.x) so I upgraded to 5.0.1 .. big mistake, saved for another topic, but it still does the same thing. It even happens in Firefox. I have a Spring 2010 MBP.

OS X :: Wish Programs Would Exit When Close Them?

Dec 9, 2010

I was wondering if there is a setting to change so when I close a program it doesn't still run on the dock. For example: If I open Numbers from the dock and then close it (by clicking the 'x' in the top left corner of the gui window), it will still be running in the background. The only way for me to close it (even after I've 'x'ed out of the window) is to right click on the Numbers icon and click on 'quit'. Since I have Numbers in the dock, visually I cannot tell that it is still running and using memory. This is fairly annoying, b/c it is easy to have many of these idle processes running in the background eating up memory and I find myself periodically having to go through my dock to see which processes are still running unbeknownst to me.

OS X :: Mac Will Not Exit Sleep Mode...

Dec 29, 2009

As of last night, my MBP started acting very strangely. After entering my username and password, it would enter the desktop for a short period of time and then kick back into sleep mode; the screen would turn back to black. Sometimes it will let me stay on the desktop for a long time and other times it will hardly let me stay on the desktop. I called apple support and they had me start the computer in safe mode; even then it occasionally kicks me out. The tech guy said that it was a "strange software issue" and not a hardware issue. I thought it was a hard drive issue; my hard drive makes an odd sound when it unlocks, but it has been doing that for quite some time with no issues. I tried to reset the SMC and it didn't do anything.

I am running OS X; not leopard or snow leopard. I know I need to upgrade, but this shouldn't be happening.

MacBook Pro :: Screen Is Black Does Not Want To Exit Screen Saver Mode?

Jun 2, 2012

When my MacBook Pro 13" i5 goes into screen saver mode, which is black, it won't return to normal mode. Tried all keys, trac pad, closing the lip and re-opening it,  and it won't respond. The only thing that works is holding down power button for hard shutdown, then restarting it. It has happened 8 times in the last 2 weeks.

Applications :: Unable To Install Safari Extensions / Safari Will Immediately Lose Response

Jun 15, 2010

Many extensions on extensions.apple.com cannot be installed. However, extensions that I installed before, no problem, such as AdBlock, Bing, Echofon. Others, will not install, it will be stuck at installing. And Safari may lose response after a while. I initially noticed that if I try to install YouTube5 which I downloaded myself, Safari will immediately lose response.

Tried solutions:

- Reset Safari
- Run OnyX
- Repair disk permissions
- Deleting all the extensions; extensions I installed before will install, others won't
- Deleting Clicktoflash and Glims

Applications :: Unable To Open Safari Window / Safari Not Working Fine

Jul 2, 2010

I put off doing the software update on Safari... I just HAD a feeling something would go wrong and I didn't have time to mess with it if it did.

So today I ran and update. And it messed up.

Now Safari will "open"... it looks like it is open and I have access to all the menus. But a Safari window will not open.

I am surprised that I haven't seen others with this problem. I have tried deleting the cache and deleting the preferences file. Neither seem to have made ANY difference.

I'm at a loss as to what to do. And I am feeling like I'm missing a body part. I need my Safari back!

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Mac Mail 5.3 How To Exit Classic View Mode

May 10, 2012

I wanted to get started quickly so I put Mac Mail into "Classic" mode. Can't remember how but i think i was asked in a modal dialogue if I wanted to. Been through every Menu item and the Help and can't find any refernece to 3 column view except that it exists. I'm finding Lion a bit rough around the edges even though I'm on 10.7.4. The help is cursory like I said no reference to 3-column except how great it is and can't find a manual for Mac Mail at apple.com.

OS X :: Disk Utility - Underlying Task Reported Failure On Exit

May 10, 2010

I'm running OSX 10.4.11 on a 12" PowerBook 1.5 GHz with 1.25 GB of RAM and an 80 GB HD. When I run the disk Utility to Verify Disk, it ends with the message, "Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit." This happens if I run the Disk Utility from the hard drive, from the OSX installation disk or from an external hard drive. The Repair Drive button is always grayed out no matter where I am running the disk Utility from, too. I have cloned the entire hard drive onto an external drive with Carbon Copy Cloner. I know PPC systems won't boot from a USB drive, but I was considering booting from the install disk, re-formatting the drive from there and then re-installing from the external by running CCC from there.

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Compatible With Safari 10.7.3?

Apr 30, 2012

After 2 or 3 months of not being able to access Bank of America's website using Safari 10.7.3, and being told they're working on the problem, tonight BoA told me finally to use FireFox or Chrome. I explained to them I didn't want to use anything other than Safari on my MacBook Pro and that I had no problems 3 months ago, why now? Technical support provided no answer and continued her statement... "use FireFox or Chrome." I requested a switch to paper statements and she told me the only way to do that was for me to access it from the website... using FireFox or Chrome for Mac OS10.
