View 4 RepliesAny ideas why my brand new 7-port usb 2.0 hub would be so slow? It this thing nearly 7 minutes to transfer 100MB. Now it is adding song to my iphone at the rate of about one song per ever 45 seconds.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have used the disk for a number of years - all appeared to work fine - I am now backing up my data and only get Very slow transfer speed using firewire 800 - 2 hrs to transfer 1.36 Gb. Disk is connected to a Dual 1.8 Ghz Power PC G5 with firewire 800 - another d2 disk is connected to it with firewire 400 and I have just connected a Maxtor disk using firewire 400 to that. I have tried Updated the firmware (it did require it), tested the device alone on both 800 and 400 connections both slow. Restarted everything and used disk repair to check and repair the disks - repaired permissions on the startup disk.
Connected all the devices together again | LaCie 800 - LaCie 400 - and Maxtor 400. It sends data to all the other devices fast (~ 3 min for 1.6 Gb) through the LaCie 800 disk connection!, but does not send data to the LaCie 800 fast at all. Tested the other devices alone as well - they are all fast. Have also performed a TechTool Pro Ver 4 test on the the disk (Disk type ST325082 3A 232.89 Gb LaCie d2 External LUN0 revision 3.03) Passed the surface scan, disk controller and read write tests. Is the disk failing?

I did some experimenting this evening to assess data transfer rates to various storage items in my home network which uses a new Time Capsule as the router/hub.
Connected to the Time Capsule are the following:
- Mac Pro (GigE)
- Vista Machine (GigE)
- MBA (Wifi)
- Raptor Drive (USB 2)
- Time Capsule Drive (Internal)
Transferring a 650MB file between devices yielded the following results:
MP > Vista (GigE) = 288 Mbps
MP > MBA (5GHz) = 52 Mbps
MP > MBA (2.4GHz) = 43 Mbps
MP > Raptor (TC USB) = 38 Mbps
MP > TC Drive (Internal) = 38 Mbps
MBA (5GHz) > TC Drive (Internal) = 22 Mbps
It seems that transferring files to a USB drive or the internal drive on the Time Capsule is painfully slow. It took 2:20 to transfer the 650MB file to the Time Capsule over GigE vs. 0:20 seconds to another machine. What's worse, is that the data transfer speeds to the TC are a function of link speed, the slower your connection, the slower your transfer rates. It's not simply limited by some bottle-neck in the TC. It took 3:45 to transfer the same file to the TC from the MacBook Air over the 5GHz WiFi connection. When I complained about this the other day at the Apple store, the "Genius" said that it's due to QOS built into the router to ensure it doesn't kill my web browsing.
Just bought a new MacBook Pro. Tried using Data Migration Assistant. It was wanting to transfer data using my wireless network with an estimated time to complete of 40 hours. Would I be able to accomplish this faster using Thunderbolt?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two MacBook Pros running 10.7.4. I wanted to copy one iPhoto library from one device to the other using a new Thunderbolt cable. The file is approximately 60GB. When I copy a small file of 1.0 to 2.0 BG in size, the transfer is incredibly fast -- as in seconds. Â
When I try to transfer the large file (60GB), the transfer is very slow, and Finder says it will take 12 hours. Oh, and I am not running any anti-virus software.Â

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a 13" MBP and just got a new 500gb HD to pop in replacing my 160gb one. I have about 200gb free on an NTFS external I was planning on using time machine to back up my system for seamless HD swap but as we know, macs don't play nice with NTFS. If possible, I would like to not have to re-install all my applications and such. I found other software (SuperDuper) that should do the same thing but none will play with my NTFS external. I guess my question is this: I have a SATA to USB adapter, can I: Plug in new HD via USB, Format to OSX Journaled, then do a time-machine backup to the new drive, pop in the new HD and be good to go?

How do i transfer data from my macbook pro to my new macair?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm going to buy a new internal HD (Scorpio Blue 500GB) for my Macbook Pro.
My question is how to take everything I have on my old HD and put it on my new HD.
From searching I've seen people talk about SuperDuper. Exactly how would I use it?
Also I've seen some mention using Time Machine. If I use that way, do I put in my new HD first, then install Leopard, then go to Time Machine and put everything back onto my new HD?
I want to make sure I know what I'm doing so when I get it, I know which method I will use.
I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me the best way(s) to selectively transfer data from my old MacBook to my new MacBook Pro. Detailed information on both computers is provided below. Old Computer (From)

My MacBook 2.1 (2006) recently had an accident with a glass of water and died. I just purchased a brand new MacBook running Version 10.7.3, and I'd like to see if I can rescue any of the data on the old MacBook. At the Apple store, they said I'd need to purchase an enclosure to run the old hard drive as an external drive, but they weren't able to give me specifics as to what kind of enclosure I would need to purchase. Can anyone recommend a specific enclosure that would work with those two computers for data transfer (assuming anything can be rescued)?

Im trying to transfer my old media from my PC to my Mac.
I've had difficulties partitioning a section of the hd on my pc that will be compatible with mac because the pc will only partition in one format (NTSF I believe).
So my questions are:
Can I connect the two via ethernet?
Or is there some other solution I have not come across?
I've searched for an answer but most help instructions are not according to the exact specs I'm dealing with.

Can you use iCloud to transfer data from macair to iPad?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have searched the forums, but all related topics seem to be inconclusive or not applicable. I just finished copying 2gb of files from my macbook to a Lexar 8gb flash drive. It took about 12 minutes. I then immediately ejected the drive, inserted it into my iMac, and copied the files over, it took a little over 2 minutes. A 700mb file being transferred right now from my macbook to a different Sandisk flash drive. It took about 3 minutes. This rules out the peripherals right? All speeds where from a direct connection of drive and usb port (no hubs). So why is my macbook so slow transferring over usb?
