MacBook Pro :: Switch From 1440 X 900 To 1680 X 1050?
Sep 13, 2010I'm grabing a 2nd hand late 2008 ump with 15" screen.
My question is,
Is it possible to switch the 1440x900 lcd screen for a 1660x1050 lcd screen like this one:

graphics card for the G5 dual 2.0 to enable it to run twin 1680 x 1050 OR higher resolution monitors. The highy touted ATI X800 apparently doesn't run 1680x 1050.
View 8 Replies View RelatedDebating between two monitors to use as an external with my MBP. HP LP2475w & Dell 2209WA.
HP is a 24" H-IPS panel with 1920 x 1200 max resolution. Dell is a 22" e-IPS panel with 1680 x 1050 max resolution. The Dell is half the price of the HP.
My concern is the lower resolution on the Dell. What difference is there with the lower resolution of the Dell vs the HP monitor? Keeping in mind of course that the Dell is also 2" smaller than the HP. I'd be using the monitor for extended web surfing, writing for long periods in m.word, and video editing.
I went to the macshop to check out the hi res 15" after reading as much as I could about glare & text size.
(It's a bit like looking at medical textbooks because the more you look round the forums the more problems you find! I have just read about a yellow tint on the 15" high res )
They did not have one in but they did have the 17" high res in.
I know the 17" high res has a slighly higher dpi but does the text size look the same as the 15" high res (more or less)?
Does anyone know the screen model/manufacturer of the new mbp 15,4 inch glossy 1440 screen? The thing is that I recieved my new mbp with the high-res antiglare, and it was just awful, now I'm thinking about getting the glossy standard model, and I'd like to research the screen before I get it.
The reason why I choosed to retun my high res antiglare is that it had a red tone, the vertical viewing angle is WAY WORSE than my 2008 mbp antiglare, the screen was not centered (flush left with a 3mm black line to the right), and the resolution (1680) is simply too high for general use (but perfect for photography, graphic design etc).I normally love anti-glare screens but this one is simply not good enough, even though it's a "high-res" one. Please share your experience with the new 1440 standard-res glossy!
Would also appriciate if someone knew where to get the "old" core2duo with antiglare 1440 option, preferably on sale, since that's still a considerable machine for me!
BTW, if anyone's interested, the screen of the antiglare high-res I received was a samsung (didn't write down the model number before I shipped it back)
I have a macbook pro 13" and have purchased a mini display port to vga cable, plugging it into a HP w1907v monitor, but on the resolution settings there is no option for 1440 x 900 60hz which is what the monitor is requesting, but this resolution option is not on the list of avaliable ones, is there anyway round this? I have it on at the minute and it is working fine just not the right resolution so is looking pretty rubbish!

Did the fact that I connected to another network present any risks?
I did not send any private info during that time, any risks of getting hacked?
Sometimes restarting is not enough: you need to power off your Mac, wait for a little, and power it on again. It could be a script which act like the "schedule" program in system preferences: it would switch off the Mac immediately, the add 1 minute to the current time and switch it on again.

I just got a new Macbook Pro and f5 and f6 are used for the keyboard backlight. I don't need f6 but I'd like f5 to refresh the browsers. In preferences I can switch the f keys to be the default, but I just want this for f5. Does someone know how to do this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently use an iMac (20" late 2006 model) as my main computer, but for my next I am seriously considering a MacBook Air. I bought my iMac with the intention of using all of it's power (I got the 2.33Ghz with 256mb X1600), but the only time I really tap into the processor is when I encode video, which I do rarely anymore, and when I play games, which I never do anymore since I have a PS3 for that. Now, all I really do is websurf, listen to music, use Garageband, and other basic stuff.
View 20 Replies View Relatedi know you've already tackled this a thousand times, but, having read those thousand threads, i'm still not sure which of these i should go for. you all seem generous with your opinions, so i'll ask again.i need to replace my 4 year old dell 700m (12.1", 1.6ghz, 512mb ram, tiny 24gb HD) as it has become painfully slow and things are beginning to stop working. i've very much enjoyed its portability (it's small and weighs just over 4 pounds) which is why the MBA has caught my eye. my concern, is that i've heard all these things about it being underpowered - but underpowered for what? the lure of the MBP, of course, is that it's a lot more power for its moderate increase in bulk and weight.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been following this forum for over 2 months now and I'm proud to say that it helped me to finally make the decision to buy a mac. I've always been an iPod-fanatic but a completely new OS seemed like a very drastic change. I recently moved houses and now I live about 200 metres from an apple store, so I guess it was just a matter of time before I caved in .Now that I've been using my new laptop for about a week I can honestly say that I've never enjoyed using a computer as much as I do now. I'm already getting frustrated when using my PC (a Dell Inspiron 1525) to transfer files because it doesn't function as fluently as my mac, I believe that this is a good sign . What I like the most about my new machine are the multi-touch gestures on the trackpad and the very good battery life (I can easily watch over 3.5 hours of video with Airport turned off and low light conditions. Coming from barely 1h15 of word processing on my Dell, I can say that I'm quite impressed). I'm also a lot more productive on this computer than I ever was on any other laptop, I don't know what it is but i'm guessing it has something to do with the fullscreen option in Pages '09. Also, the backlit keyboard is incredibly useful when instant messaging in my room in the middle of the night without my parents knowing, or typing in dark lecture halls.

I just ordered my new MacBook Pro. I will transfer my current hard disk in my old MacBook Pro (Unibody, 17") to my new MacBook Pro (Unibody, 13"). Will the current OS X installation and the programs "just work" given the change in hardware (17" unibody to 13" unibody), or should I expect any problems?
