MacBook Air :: How To Switch From IMac
I currently use an iMac (20" late 2006 model) as my main computer, but for my next I am seriously considering a MacBook Air. I bought my iMac with the intention of using all of it's power (I got the 2.33Ghz with 256mb X1600), but the only time I really tap into the processor is when I encode video, which I do rarely anymore, and when I play games, which I never do anymore since I have a PS3 for that. Now, all I really do is websurf, listen to music, use Garageband, and other basic stuff.

i know you've already tackled this a thousand times, but, having read those thousand threads, i'm still not sure which of these i should go for. you all seem generous with your opinions, so i'll ask again.i need to replace my 4 year old dell 700m (12.1", 1.6ghz, 512mb ram, tiny 24gb HD) as it has become painfully slow and things are beginning to stop working. i've very much enjoyed its portability (it's small and weighs just over 4 pounds) which is why the MBA has caught my eye. my concern, is that i've heard all these things about it being underpowered - but underpowered for what? the lure of the MBP, of course, is that it's a lot more power for its moderate increase in bulk and weight.

MacBook Air :: Takes Almost 10 Minutes From Switch On To The Log On Screen
My 3-weeks old Macbook Air is taking almost 10 minutes to get from switch on to the log on screen, it seems to be stuck at the white screen with the Apple logo & the spinning grey wheel. Anybody faced similar problems before? What caused this? I was working with about 7 or 8 different Excel files open at one go and a couple were corrupted (but repaired). I have never experienced anything like this with my i5 iMac and wasn't expecting this on the Macbook Air. Any light at the end of the tunnel? Info: MacBook Air

Mac :: Made The Switch From 13" MacBook Pro To 21.5" IMac
Aperture 3 was just too much for my 1-year old 13" MBP so I got the new base model 21.5" iMac. I might miss the 24" monitor but being able to use the 4GB of RAM from the MBP for a total of 8GB ought to make up for those lost couple of inches. I'm really looking forward to having a discrete graphics card.This is my first desktop since 2002! Now with an iPad I just can't justify the compromise of power for portability anymore. I hope Apple will give the 13" MBP a real graphics card next refresh to make it an actual desktop-replacement machine like the 15 & 17's. Oh well, I already made the switch and can't wait to see the difference in performance!

I?m a long time lurker and this is my first time posting. I?ve been a PC guy all my life and the only apple product I own is the iphone (which I now can?t live without). My current PC is a $300 Acer laptop from 4 years ago (you can imagine how powerful it is :-P ). I?ve decided it?s time to upgrade and now is the perfect time to finally make the switch over to the Mac. I?m just really unsure about what route I should go with given how I will use the machine and I?m humbly coming before you guys for your opinions! I?m under a budget but I?m willing to pay to meet my computing needs, short of springing for a power mac.

On my 2008 24inch iMac the screen has a problem ( dead pixels ) and I will get it replaced in the future , in the mean time I have a very nice large external monitor connected to the iMac which I use ok, what I am looking for is a way at first when booting up , to be able to see both the iMac's screen and the external monitors screen , then some how shut off / make blank the iMacs screen only leaving the external monitor on ?

OS X :: Windows 7 PC And 27" IMac KVM Switch?
While planning my 27" iMac purchase this winter, I am in need of a KVM switch. I ONLY need this for keyboard and mouse, I can deal with two displays. Will any KVM switch these days take the wired apple keyboard and a wired windows mouse and allow it to run on both machines? I am thinking about this one: [URL] So just to be clear, I want to use the wired apple keyboard (with numpad) and a wired Microsoft mouse for both. Will they run fine on both systems?

IMac :: Possible To Switch Windows Buttons To Left Side
One obvious thing I've noticed on a mac is the close window [x] minimize window [_] and maximize window buttons are on the right on a windows. On a Mac they are on the opposite left side. What I am wondering is there a way to switch those buttons on the left side on a Mac to the right. Which I am accustomed to it? It there anyway or is it just something, I will have to adjust to.

Hoping someone can help - my imac (approx 15-18 months old , intel) won't start. Last night on shutting down DPP (canon Digital image software) was hanging and system asked me if I wanted to force quit it...sadly I had switched off my bluetooth mouse and , as usually once mouse turned off switching it back on it never re connects - why did I buy the bletooth mouse and keyboard ?, so I could not confirm yes force quit - is there no way of selecting with keyboard like there is in windows ? So I switched off at power switch. Tried to re switch on - grey screen came up, apple logo, the little timer circle but after a while timer circle stopped and nothing further happened. have tried several more times and now don't even get timer.

IMac Intel :: Late 2006 - Gigabit Switch Compatibility - Which?
I have been trying to get my late 2006 iMac to negotiate gigabit with two different switches (D-Link and Netgear) and not having any success. The Mac will always default to 100baseT and whenever I try and manually configure to 1000, the connection goes dead. After doing a little research, I found Apple's article [URL] which explains that "Some Gigabit Ethernet switches...are not compatible with Intel-based Macintosh computers using the 1000BaseT setting." Yes, I am using cat 5e/6 cables and yes I have tried multiple cables. Other devices on the network have no problems. Can anyone who has successfully gotten an Intel iMac to negotiate gigabit speeds with tell me what switch you are using, becuase the article does not and I don't want to keep buying and returning them. IMac Intel :: Won't Switch To New User On Logout
I have an number of iMacs that are doing the same thing. When a user goes to logout, the iMacs will get to the default background and that is as far as they will go. They will not get to the login screen so that another user can login. Some of the computers are running 10.4.x and some are running 10.5.x. What puzzles me is it must not be the operating system, since I have seen it on Tiger and also Leopard. I have to hard crash the machines, but holding the power button for about 30 seconds. If the power button is not held long enough, the computer will just come back to screen where is what at where this all started. Has anyone else come acrorss this problem? Does anyone know a cure? Some of the machines are under warranty and some are not, so I am stuck on getting any help from Apple unless they keep track of items in this forum. Information: iMac 2 GB RAM

Mu son's iMac has a dead screen. Black after startup. The computer is running, but he needs to switch the startup screen to the external monitor so he can make any additional backups he needs before chucking it into the garbage. IMac Intel :: Using 10/100/1000 Base Connection On A Fast Ethernet Switch
I called a Tech guy from netgear, because i was concerned my internet connection was being slowed down with all of my devices, connected to my switch. Now, i current have a Netgear Fast Ethernet Switch-16 ports: Model FS516. I have a MAC which says it has a Gigabyte Ethernet 10/100/1000 Base. A future Macbook, which would have the same ethernet connection. A PC with 100/100 base connection. TWO Blu ray disc players 100base. Xbox 360. PS3. And i may have more devices later on. Anyways, the tech told me that if i have a 10/100/1000 base device connecting to the fast ethernet switch (the mac) for example, that it will slow down the traffic in the connection and slow everything down. he recommended me getting a Gigabyte ethernet switch with autonegotiation. but they are really expensive for me to buy right now. Can i just stick with my fast ethernet switch for now? will i be okay? if there a setting i can do to maybe change some settings in my mac to only use 100base? or any suggestions? will my one mac slow down the WHOLE network? IMac Intel :: Desktop Picture Resets To Leopard Default After Sleep - FUS Switch?
I have a new(ish) iMac, and a 24" ACD attached to it. When I assign each display an image, they hold that image only until the next time the entire desktop has to be drawn (ie, waking up from sleep, or switching back to the account via FUS from another. Whenever I do any of those things, I am presented with the Leopard default starts-and-nebula background.Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening?

IMac Intel :: Using Virgin Cable Modem To Ethernet Switch To 3 Macs And Time Capsule
I've got a Virgin Cable Modem which I am hoping to connect to a Time Capsule (so iPhone can share WiFi connection), a NetGear Ethernet Switch which connects by ethernet cables to a MacBook Pro, new iMac i7, G4 Cube (not such an issue), ancient PC (also not such an issue). Typing this, I have the modem connected to the switch, connected to my MacBook Pro. This part is perfect. I can connect the modem directly to the MacBook Pro and still as Father Jobs intended it. ISSUES: 1. Time Capsule does not see any cables connected to it. Having performed all kinds of resets, swapping cables, connecting the modem directly and via the switch, it still doesn't like it. My guess is that the ports are buggered, even though the green lights on the back are on (are they supposed to stay on without cables in?). However, I can access the internal hard drive wirelessly from the MBP. 2. The iMac (brand new) will not recognise the modem, whether connected directly to the modem, or via the switch. It gives me a 169.254 IP address, however it will see the MBP on the network. Could it be that the ethernet port in the iMac is buggered also, yet how can it see the network? 3. Similar story with the G4 Cube. That gives me a 169. IP address. 4. The PC doesn't let me connect anymore also, where before the arrival of the Macs, it was happy to run directly through the modem. Information: 27" iMac i7 + MacBook Pro 2.33 + G4 Cube Mac OS X (10.6.2)

IMac :: Unable To Use TV As Secondary Monitor / Switch Between Primary And Secondary Display?
we are trying to hook up our TV as a secondary monitor (for hulu, netflix, etc) but it defaults as the primary monitor. We would like to keep the imac as the primary monitor, and have the TV as a secondary, but cannot figure out how to do it! The only way we can get the imac back to primary status is if we use mirror mode. Once we take it off mirror mode, the TV becomes the primary monitor again, and there appears to be no way of switching it in OSX display preferences. I've done similar hookups with my laptop, and the TV defaults as the secondary monitor. Why isn't this happening with our iMac? Any ideas?

Its a G5 iMac ihave been using for abt three years now. first i got the vertical stripes about two months ago and today when i tried to switch it on, it won't. I turned it off last night after use and when i tried this afternoon, it was hot and it does not turn on? Is this the end of her life? has anyone face this before?
