MacBook Pro :: Stuck Pixel Switches Between Green And Red

Aug 23, 2010

I have a dead/stuck pixel that one day can be green and one day be red. I dont really know what triggers it, if it can be some different colors I show on the screen? Anyway for hours and hours I've tried these websites that switches color several times each second claiming it will fix stuck pixels, but with no success. What can I do? I've heard that Macbooks have a "outer layer" of some sort on the screen, so you cant use the method to apply pressure on the screen, true? If is was just dead I would have no hope, but as it switches colors at least its alive.. Also, its really annoying as I've to always change background picture to hide the pixel

MacBook Pro :: Pink And Green Vertical Pixel Columns On Screen?

Sep 2, 2010

My A1226 is really giving me fits. It will display persistent vertical pink and green pixel column patterns in windows or over the entire screen at start up. I have twice performed the "PRAM Re-set" with Command-Option-P-R depressed with pwer on and that has worked. But tonight it came back and I had to do it a third time. Is this a potential or probable power/battery problem? I hope someone here is familiar with this!

MacBook Pro :: Just Discovered A Stuck Pixel On 13-inch?

Oct 21, 2010

Recently, I just discovered a stuck pixel on my 13-inch MacBook Pro. I got it in June 2010 and somehow, there is a stuck pixel near the bottom of the screen. I have tried the widget where it flashes red, green and blue on a small area, but it didn't work. Oh yes, it appears, that using the widget, the pixel only appears when it is green, but not when it is red or blue.

In addition, on a standard background like white or when there is a slight tint of blue like the slightly bluish lines in Finder (in list view). However, the pixel cannot be seen on a black background. Even when the brightness is lowered, the pixel is highly visible, until of course when the brightness is zero.

Can anyone please offer some advice? I believe that it is the only stuck pixel I discovered so far.

MacBook Air :: Red Pixel Stuck In Middle Of Screen

May 29, 2008

After my great experience the last day with my two days old MBA 1.8Ghz/SSD I stopped smiling after I discover a stucked RED pixel in the middle of the screen. Normally I'm not such a whiner, but $3000 is a lot of money for a laptop, and I think you should expect a 100% flawless product for this huge amount of money. What to do? I tried the online video fixer for more then 10 minutes... didn't work. Should I give it a try at Apple? Or is it a no go? The problem is, I bought it at an Apple reseller who had this MBA as showroom demo for a month. So even though for me the product is only 2 days old, i think for Apple it is one month old and that would imply that I lost all my warranty and refund rights already. What to do?

MacBook Pro :: Stuck / Dead Pixel On Screen?

Aug 25, 2009

I noticed shortly after I bought my Mac last week that I had a stuck pixel. I don't know if it was there when I first turned it on or not, but I have been trying to ignore it, and really the reason is that if people see it, they will think what I have is defective, when it is really only one pixel that I can probably work back awake. I know I have OCD-tendencies, so I was wondering if there are people out there that have a stuck/dead pixel that they are okay with having on the screen! Sorry for the weird post, but I was hoping to find some posters who have gotten over the fact that a pixel of theirs is dead/stuck.

MacBook Air :: Dead Or Stuck Pixel On Left Of Screen

Nov 3, 2010

I have received my maxed out MacBook Air last week and did not even think about checking for dead or stuck pixels (not like my led TV which I had to return several times) until this article about Apple's policy was posted on Mac Rumors. That made me curious and I began starting to look for anomalies which resulted in finding 1 dead pixel on the lower left part of my screen. Of course now it is bugging me and I am really thinking about returning it because of the money I have spent on it. Should I call the Apple Care first or go straight to the store? Would they even consider replacing the unit granting they have one in stock?

MacBook :: Burn In Or Stuck Pixel In Middle Of Screen

Apr 7, 2009

Last week was spring break for me and I left my Macbook at home, didn't figure I would need it while on the beach. So when my macbook was at home it was completely off, not asleep, off and unplugged, didn't think it needed to be charged and wasting electricity. So when I get home, open it up, everything seemed fine, but then I passed a page on the web that was all black and noticed a funny shaped spot in the middle of the screen that doesn't display blacks correctly - it looks like a burn in but its an odd shape.

And its only on the blacks when its visible, I cant see it at all on any color. If you look at the pixels themselves upclose the middle is more grey and the outside is black. I tried running a burn in/stuck pixel thing for about an hour and it didn't help at all, so I am pretty curious as to what caused this. I got my macbook a few days b4 christmas so idk where that comes into replacing it or repairing it. I've started calling it a virus for fun that only likes to show up in the dark.

MacBook Pro :: Stuck Pixel Whenever Playing ITunes Movies And TV Shows?

Apr 16, 2012

Just got a brand new MacBook Pro 15" a week ago with the standard specs. I have noticed whenever I'm playing a video that's bought or downloaded from iTunes, a pixel on the up-left corner of the screen starts flashing between blue and black like crazy, at first I thought it was a physical defect, but when I stop playing videos the stuck pixel disappears. I ran a number of test and confirmed it wasn't the screen's problem. All the firmwares are up to date by the way.

Is there anyway to fix this? I have tried jScreenFix without any luck. Is there anything apple will do with this? Spending this amount of money on a new computer it should not come with a stuck pixel...

Hardware :: Stuck Or Dead Pixel At Bottom Of MBP Display

Jun 19, 2008

It appears that I have a stuck or dead pixel at the bottom of my MacBook Pro's display. It's relatively small and unnoticeable, but I use my Dock a lot, which is how I noticed it. I originally mistook it for dust. I tried a few tricks for removing stuck pixels, but none worked, which is why I wonder if it's truly dead. I think the pixel functions; it remains a constant gray color when the screen is on, but I don't think it's completely black nor does it change colors regardless of what is supposed to be showing on it. Flashing different colors with the help of a few pixel tools didn't help either. "Massaging" the pixel didn't work, and I don't feel entirely positive about adding pressure the screen as it is. The pixel must have gone out a couple of weeks ago. I only noticed it recently, and I doubt that it's been there the whole time I've had this model. Now it doesn't affect the functionality of the machine in anyway, and it's only one pixel, so there's not anything I can do about it unless I can determine if it can be brought back or not. I doubt that too. I think it is quite gone since it is dark in color and it has not responded to any method of restoration. But for all I know, it could just pop on one day. I don't think anything can be done about it, but I'd like to hear some other takes on it.

IMac :: One Stuck Pixel In Light Blue Colour?

Aug 19, 2009

Yesterday I received my first brand new iMac 24". After a few hours I notice that it has one stuck pixel (in light blue colour, so I think it's not dead).I read Apple policy about 7+ stuck/dead pixels

My question is what can I do? If I want to return it, I will have to wait 1-2 weeks and then again play lottery with panel and HW (also that option would cost me additional EUR - I received 10% discount as a student and this is the only store where I have discount (and only for one computer per year I have 10% discount) - If they won't want to switch it, I would get back 1300EUR, while new one is 1500EUR in other stores).

Second option is to try fix that myself. I read tutorial on the net and the author claims 90% success with stuck pixels (with "massaging" pixel). The only problem here is the glass, I know how to remove it, but probably there would be a lot of new dust after doing that between panel and glass - and the imac is only one day old . I try with softwer and "epileptic" videos unstuck that pixel but it didn't worke (I try this for one hour). And the third option to simply forget that exists (is there a bigger chance to get another stuck pixel if I already have one???).

MacBook :: Stuck Pixel Again, 3 Day Old Macbook?

first post of many I hope. Been reading the forum with interest over the last few months.Question- I purchased a macbook 2.4 Ghz Unibody from my local apple store on Friday (15th May).It went back the next day due to there being a scratch on the back of the screen, the 2nd replacement was also taken back due to a stuck pixel in the centre of the screen.

My latest replacement has also got a stuck pixel (that i have used numerous programmes to remove), but its out of the field of immediate vision and not interfering with the Mac Experience. What do I do? (What would you do?) am i just being too pedantic?

OS X :: MacBook Pro Switches Off And Then Back On

Mar 2, 2010

My 4/5 month old MBP has twice now "gone dead" and then just "come back to life". I'll just be browsing, nothing flash heavy and nothing else too taxing on the processor (email, itunes open but not playing, maybe text edit) and for no reason obvious to me the screen goes dead/black along with the back light on the keyboard dying. Then 2secs later the whole thing starts up again right were it left off, not a system restart like you might get if the battery dies, but the same way it would if you had physically pulled up the screen while it's been asleep.

MacBook Pro :: Switches Itself Off / Was Running On Battery And Had 60% Power Available?

Dec 2, 2010

I have a late 2007 MBP 15inch 2.33Ghz Core 2 Duo. I have had since new and no problems. Over this last week I have had the same issue a couple of times. The MBP just switches itself off. The first time it did it, it was running on battery (I was using Aperture) and had 60% power available. It would refuse to re-start until I connected it to the mains and then it ran fine.

Then it did the same thing overnight at some point. I had left it connected to the mains (as I always do at home), had shut the lid to put it into sleep mode. When I came back it was switched off. No-one had touched it whilst I was away but yet it had just turned itself off.The only thing that I noticed was that when I started it up both times the little light on the magsafe connecter kept flashing between orange and green. However when the computer booted into OS X both times it showed a reasonable amount of power in the battery.

MacBook Pro :: Battery Cycle Switches Over After 85 Percent

I noticed that my battery cycle (according to istat) switches over at 15%. So as son as it switches over to the next cycle I plug in the adapter to make the battery run a cycle from 100%-0.(I know the cycle in 100%) But it still switches over at 15%, that means that the battery ran only 85% of its capacity. How can that be? Is it possible to reset (delete) battery cycle data?

MacBook Air :: Battery Half Full But It Switches Off When Unplugged

May 1, 2012

My 10 month old Macbook Air 13" battery behaves weird every 4 weeks. When unplugged the MBA switches off suddenly without a warning even the battery is still more than half full. Plugging it in it tells it takes 20 hours for a full charge but never gets full. After unplugging it crashes after some minutes again and goes dark.

The battery' got 178 load cycles and 5675 mAh out of originally 6700 mAh (84%). Did several SMC resets and PRAM resets. I even reinstalled Lion from scratch without changing the battery's behavior. Calibrating the battery isn't possible because it does not discharge but crashes. I tried three different power adapters.

MacBook :: What Does Pixel Burnout Look Like

Aug 2, 2009

In the lower-right corner of my whitebook, there's a bright white oval of sorts about 1/8" in diameter. It can only be seen when there's a white background (like right now here in the forums).

After trying to clean it like it was a smudge , I'm almost certain the pixels are dead in that spot. Given the size of the area, how many dead pixels are we talking about and would Apple replace my screen?

It's no big deal really since it's at the bottom but if this thing were in the middle it would be quite annoying.

MacBook Pro :: Dead Pixel On The Screen?

Sep 12, 2010

I have owned my new MBP for less than 3 months and I have already spotted a dead pixel. It is about 2.5" about the dead center of the monitor. Whenever I have a browser or any other light background up I see it stick out like a sore thumb. I did a search on the forums and saw that Apple has a "policy" regarding these things before they will replace it. The nearest Apple store is 3 hours away and they want me to bring it in. Obviously I don;t want to drive all the way there for them to turn me away. What do you guys think....too OCD? The short amount of time I have owned it though makes me want it fixed...and I can't NOT see it now that I know it's there (yes it's a double negative).
