MacBook Pro :: Stains On Speaker Grills - Visible In Bright Daylight
Jul 25, 2009
My MacBook pro is about 2 weeks old. As soon as I unboxed it, I noticed some stains on the speaker grills. The stains are only visible in bright daylight. The stains seem to disappear for a while when cleaned with a damp cloth, but quickly come back. The stains weren't any particular shape at first, but after repeated cleaning, they same to have morphed into perfect circles.

Look at this picture[URL]the upper case, there is a black covering on the speaker grills. Is that a covering under the speaker grills to prevent liquid/small objects from getting in? I spilled some thick liquid (evaporated milk) on it and scared that some got it but would be more at ease if there was that black covering. I have applecare so can i get them to check it out?

Mine sounds muffled on the left when compared to the right speaker.
Its very noticeable when you play around in your balance settings (max left or max right) that the volumes are different.

I recently found some marks and stains of dirt in my macbook pro's aluminum body. I tried wiping it off with Alcohol and Water but it won't disappear it looks like its stained on the metal already.
Is there any thing I can apply on the surface of the metal to remove these stains and maybe polish the metal of my laptop? Here are some pictures of the surface of the laptop so you can see the stain marks I am talking about.

Ever since we jumped ahead an hour my iCloud calendar has been off by an hour. It shows up with the correct time on my iPhone but not on the Web. There is no place for me to adjust the time zone.

I have a white MacBook that is about 6 months old. I wash my hands alot, but it appears as though the oil on the keys lays on the screen when the laptop is closed. I know there are many topics on here to fix oil stains (I searched). But I want to know the most efficient and safest way to clean them off of the screen, and prevent it from happening again.

I have blue stains or marks on my white Macbook casing. The problem seemed to lie in faulty plastic being used, amongst other reasons and excuses given. Some people had serious staining issues and received replacement casings. My Macbook is a 2010 release, either Week 1 or 13 (hard to see on back), serial number beginning W801.

This is an issue I'm starting to notice on my 10 month old Macbook Pro 13 inch. There's this "white stain" on both palm rests of the MBP. Here's some sample pictures:
http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/1350/sample1i.jpg
http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/6863/sample2z.jpg
It cannot be cleaned off by wiping it, water, rubbing alcohol, etc. Note that I clean my MBP daily, even hourly, I always wash my hands and dry them before using this laptop, therefore, I know it's not a matter of sanitation.

The tower speaker just doesn't cut it and I want to hook up my 5.1 Locitech speaker system. I couldn't find any Mac sound cards on newegg and am having trouble finding results anywhere else. What card is recommended by most Mac Pro users? My professions isn't in audio so it doesn't have to be perfect, just something to play games, music, and movies.

I have a 2.1 Logitech Z4 setup, and the sound is only coming out of the left speaker. I have checked the wires, they are fine, and both speakers do work - but it could be the socket that's the problem. It's plugged into the line-in socket, I have put the output in System Preferences to Headphones, and everything is inserted correctly.
What do I do?
EDIT: My sound system is plugged into the headphones jack. I have tried putting headphones into the headphone jack and the sound also only comes out of the left earbud.

Obviously, there are going to be those times where a dent or a nick is inevitable to the exterior of the uMBP. What I'm addressing is how can an owner prevent the sweat/oil stains that appears on the keyboard over time? Is this an inevitability as well? Also, will the palm rest area of the aluminum casing ever get worn out like it did with the white macbook?

I've had bright spots appear behind my LCD screen for the second time this last month.
They look like the LEDS from the backlight are pushed up too close to the LCD and sort of washout the LCD in that area. The have occurred on the left side and the right sides along the lower edges of the screen.
I'm fed up with all the repairs this laptop has needed and feeling that I paid 2000 dollars for a quality product I went to the apple store today and asked for a replacement unit.
I was told that the recurring bright spots (on top of 3 other minor repairs and 1 major repair) did not warrant a replacement unit. The manager even said that they shouldn't have fixed this problem last time because it is cosmetic and not covered by the warranty. The genius also repeated the phase "This doesn't happen by itself" (I nice way to say I did this and that they shouldn't cover it. )
The manager decided to make me feel special and say something along the lines "We'll fix it again this time because we did last time".
My warranty is running out in 6 months and I need to know what's causing this. I always transport my laptop in an incase sleeve with a shoulder strap. There have never been any external marks on my casing when these dots appear. If I put too much pressure on the screen wouldn't the middle bend in more and I would get problems there? There weren't even marks on the screen from the keyboard keys yet I put enough pressure on it to cause this without even knowing it?
The best part is I asked the man who gave me my repaired laptop back how to prevent what the manager called 'LCD bruising'. When I mentioned bright spots he said 'Oh that's a defect we cover under warranty'.
Im going to contact apple's customer relations on monday regarding the repeated repair trips. I have no confidence this laptop can go a long period of time without needing repairs.

Why does my screen look dull? It's not dull like when you stop charging it, nor is it as bright as when it is charging, it's about in between. I have it plugged in and the battery constantly reads 95% never 100%. The little green dot is on the charger input and the battery symbol shows that it is being charged so I know it's charging. What reason would be why my screen is not as bright as before?

I bought a MBP last weekend, and noticed in the last few days a few bright "spots" on the screen in the top left hand area of the screen. It's like the complete opposite of a dead pixel - it's just bright and whitish. It's almost like a speck of glitter on the screen! It's only visable from certain angles, but is one of those annoying little things!

In April 2011 I bought an iMac 27 ". In November, begin the problems with gray spots in the corners. I took it to Apple technical support here in Chile and the part was replaced because the warranty was in effect. In April this year, again began to appear stains. Again I took it for service, but this time I should paid around $ 1,000 for the repair (obviously i said NO).How can a piece fails so soon and Apple doesn't takes over the situation, forcing their loyal customers (all my computers are Apple), to pay for the repair of a factory fault? Is there any legal way to force Apple to answer for the repair or replacement of the part (LCD)?

I just got a new MBP 15 i5 2010 with a high-res anti-glare screen.
Manufacturer: 00000610
Model: 00009CBB
Serial Number: 00000000
Manufacture Date: 00000000
Unfortunately the display doesn't show very light colors. (compared to my old MBP15 2007) If you look at the attached image [URL]
- at section 5 I can only see the Grey boxes from 235 to 247, and I CAN'T see any Grey box from 249 to 253.
- at section 3 I can't see the Grey box at 5 all the other from 10 to 50 are fine.
Changing the brightness, playing around with different color profiles and resetting the system didn't solve this problem. I called Apple support and after some resets I was asked to compare my screen with the same make/year. Does anybody has the same 2010 MBP15 high-res anti-glare display and experiencing the same issue? Does your display work fine and is showing all the different Grey boxes?Other MBP owners: Can you see all Grey boxes on your MBP screen? My brothers 2009 MBP15 is showing all light Grey boxes from 235 to 251. 253 can't be seen

Has anybody seen this on their Macbook Air? A very bright, fading line of 6-8 mm at the top of the screen? I just returned my MBA because of this a couple of day ago. Then today I go to the local apple dealer (in Denmark) and I see the exact same bright line on the MBA screen in the shop. I also checked a unibody Macbook, a white Macbook, and an 24" iMac. None of these screens had the problem - it was only the Air. So now I wonder: is this a feature of the MBA, or was I right in returning it because of this.

I just noticed that on a black background, my 17" i7 MacBook Pro has two areas in the lower middle area of the screen, where the backlight is too bright compared to the rest of the screen. It is very noticeable on a black background and grey.. Is anyone else having this problem?
Other things I noticed:
- there was dust on the plastic cover that you take off the case when you use it for the first time
- the aluminium enclosure was slightly dirty, could be rubbed off though..
- there are two minor 'impurities' in the aluminium (?!).. two tiny grey spots/blemishes basically
- there were a few minor scratches on the aluminium casing.
- the apple logo at the back glows in a much warmer (yellow-ish) colour than the previous generation mbp (?!)
- the screen seems not as bright as the previous generation
- the keyboard backlight seems not as bright as the previous generation

I noticed I have one small pixel that seems extremely bright, particularly when viewing a web page with a white background. I do not see any problems with the pixel when on a dark background. I think I can live with one weird pixel problem, but in case I wanted to exchange my Air for one that does not have a pixel issue, will the Apple store allow it? Also, what's the likelihood that the Apple store would have the "ultimate" version of the 11.6"? If they do not and I have to order a new one, do they allow me to continue using my current one until the new one arrives (similar to what Dell does for their customers)?
